OSN to launch Syfy channel exclusively to the region

OSN will launch Syfy, the dedicated science fiction TV channel, exclusively in the region on July 8.

It is the latest part of its partnership deal with US broadcaster NBC Universal – Syfy’s parent business – as part of which OSN already broadcasts the E! entertainment channel.

Shows set to be broadcast at launch include Dark Matter, a thriller about a crew of mercenaries who awake on a spaceship in the farthest reaches of space with no memory of who they are, and Killjoys, about a team of intergalactic bounty hunters.

Syfy will also broadcast Face Off – a reality-TV competition series in which make-up artists compete to create the wildest and weirdest special effects.

As well as new and recent original series from the US Syfy channel, the new regional version will also screen classic shows including Superman drama Smallville, and a selection of movies, including The Mummy, The Incredible Hulk and Doom.

"Science-fiction enjoys great popularity in the region, especially among youth," says Emad Morcos, OSN’s chief content officer. "The addition of this globally renowned channel, only on OSN, further defines our credentials as the go-to network for all cutting-edge content. Syfy will be a great value addition for our subscribers who seek innovative and world-class programming."
