The North American Aviation T-6 Texan is a single-engined advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), United States Navy, Royal Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1970s. Designed by North American Aviation, the T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) and USAAF designated it as the AT-6, the United States Navy the SNJ, and British Commonwealth air forces, the Harvard, the name it is best known by outside of the US. After 1962, US forces designated it the T-6. It remains a popular warbird aircraft used for airshow demonstrations and static displays. It has also been used many times to simulate the Japanese Mitsubishi Zero in movies depicting World War II in the Pacific.
The Texan originated from the North American NA-16 prototype (first flown on April 1, 1935) which, modified as the NA-26, was submitted as an entry for a USAAC "Basic Combat" aircraft competition in March, 1937. The first model went into production and 180 were supplied to the USAAC as the BC-1 and 400 to the RAF as the Harvard I. The US Navy received 16 modified aircraft, designated the SNJ-1, and a further 61 as the SNJ-2 with a different engine.

North America is a continent entirely within the Northern Hemisphere and almost all within the Western Hemisphere. It can also be considered a northern subcontinent of the Americas. It is bordered to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and to the southeast by South America and the Caribbean Sea.
North America covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), about 16.5% of the earth's land area and about 4.8% of its total surface. North America is the third largest continent by area, following Asia and Africa, and the fourth by population after Asia, Africa, and Europe.
In 2013, its population was estimated at nearly 565 million people in 23 independent states, or about 7.5% of the world's population, if nearby islands (most notably the Caribbean) are included.
North America was reached by its first human populations during the last glacial period, via crossing the Bering land bridge. The so-called Paleo-Indian period is taken to have lasted until about 10,000 years ago (the beginning of the Archaic or Meso-Indian period). The Classic stage spans roughly the 6th to 13th centuries. The Pre-Columbian era ended with the arrival of European settlers during the Age of Discovery and the Early Modern period. Present-day cultural and ethnic patterns reflect different kind of interactions between European colonists, indigenous peoples, African slaves and their descendants. European influences are strongest in the northern parts of the continent while indigenous and African influences are relatively stronger in the south. Because of the history of colonialism, most North Americans speak English, Spanish or French and societies and states commonly reflect Western traditions.
An air force, also known in some countries as an air army, is in the broadest sense, the national military organization that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army, navy, or a marine corps. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces.
The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation either within a national air force or comprising several air components from allied nations. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft.
Many air forces are also responsible for operations of the military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air defence assets such as anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. Some nations, principally Russia, the former Soviet Union and countries who modelled their militaries along Soviet lines, have an air defence force which is organizationally separate from their air force.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major territories and various possessions. The 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. At 3.8 million square miles (9.842 million km2) and with over 320 million people, the country is the world's third or fourth-largest by total area and the third most populous. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of the United States are also extremely diverse, and the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife.

I bought 5 tickets to the 2012 CAF Lobo Wing Fantasy Flight Training Raffle and won! So Jordi got an hour long ride with Julie Smith in her T-6 Texan. This is video of the preflight, start-up and rolling away. http://www.lobowing.org/ http://www.commemorativeairforce.org/
Our season is starting back up and we've already got people getting rides in the T6. Here's a flight recorded from a GoPro mounted on my helmet! The view the GoPro catches is MUCH higher than why you see at eye level. The visibility out the front is nill. This video includes no music. The R1340 is music enough!

A large group of T-6 Texans arrive at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015 together on Sunday, July 19th. For over 10 minutes the 23 Texans filled the queue for runway 27, arriving overhead for formation breaks and circling to land one after the other. After landing, all of the aircraft taxied right down the fence line in a T-6 parade that shook the ground. The Horsemen Aerobatic Team are the world’s only P-51 Mustang aerobatic team, comprising three warbird pilots who have a passion for showcasing the P-51 Mustang. The mission of The Horseman is to bring greater interest to the world of historic aviation and to remind future generations of how these powerful machines helped the Allies change the outcome of WWII. Jim Beasley serves as the Horsemen Flight Lead. In addition to the Mustang, he flies the T-6 Texan and Spitfire XVIII. Jim is also a civilian pilot for the USAF Heritage Flight program. Dan Friedkin also flies the T-6 Texan, Spitfire, Wildcat and various helicopters. The USAF recently selected Dan as a Heritage Flight civilian pilot. Ed Shipley is the founder o...
I recently had a portrait photography job, where we used a vintage WW2 aircraft, a T-6 Texan, as a shoot prop (no pun intended). After we wrapped, I was given the incredible opportunity to hitch a ride in the plane. Footage was captured with a Canon 5D Mark 2 hand held. I actually should be doing another shoot with the T-6 soon and will get more footage on the next flight :) Song: "Saving Grace" by Tom Petty Video About Me & My Work: http://vimeo.com/5228343 Website: SondersPhotography.com Blog: www.SondersPhotography.com/blog/

On Friday July 28th, at Oshkosh / AirVenture 2011, my friend Stan and I had the opportunity to ride along with Team AeroShell. Flying in the lead aircraft with pilot Mark Henley, Stan wore a GoPro HD camera on his forehead while working a Nikon handheld camera. I was filming from the right wing aircraft (piloted by Bryan Regan) with a Canon Vixia HF301 HD video camera. The full ride, from the hold short line on runway 36 through the aerobatic routine over Lake Winnebago consisting of a formation loop, wing over and barrel roll, is presented here for your viewing pleasure. Inbound to land, we were asked to hold over Warbird Island due to the amount of inbound traffic to Oshkosh, extending our airtime and allowing us to capture Lead marking our location with smoke for increased visibili...
Dave, Pete, and Kent are three of the world's most respected and talented low-altitude civilian pilots. Smoke & Noise brings you as close to the C.H.A.T experience as possible without actually getting into their wartime aircraft. Following the team from rehearsal to the air show, we see how much preparation and teamwork goes into making a successful flight and what it takes to become a true "flyboy," a cowboy of the sky. As Featured on http://www.geeksaresexy.net Remember the Big Mouth Billy Bass? You'd press a button (or trigger a proximity sensor for a surprise) and the fish would start singing either Al Greens Take Me To The River, or Bobby McFerrins Don't Worry, Be Happy. Jeff Foxworthy once quipped that if you had more than three singing fish, you might be a redneck. Texan Richard Carter took a Volvo, 5 miles of wire, five 6-volt golf cart batteries, a screw drive mechanism using 12v DC reversible motor, a lifting frame he made from scratch, a Linux server and approximately two hundred synchronized singing fish, and created what can only be described as an awesomely effective assault on good taste.
