Speed of light

The speed of light in vacuum, commonly denoted c, is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. Its precise value is 7008299792458000000♠299792458 metres per second (approximately 7008300000000000000♠3.00×10⁸ m/s), since the length of the metre is defined from this constant and the international standard for time. According to special relativity, c is the maximum speed at which all matter and information in the universe can travel. It is the speed at which all massless particles and changes of the associated fields (including electromagnetic radiation such as light and gravitational waves) travel in vacuum. Such particles and waves travel at c regardless of the motion of the source or the inertial reference frame of the observer. In the theory of relativity, c interrelates space and time, and also appears in the famous equation of mass–energy equivalence E = mc².

The speed at which light propagates through transparent materials, such as glass or air, is less than c; similarly, the speed of radio waves in wire cables is slower than c. The ratio between c and the speed v at which light travels in a material is called the refractive index n of the material (n = c / v). For example, for visible light the refractive index of glass is typically around 1.5, meaning that light in glass travels at c / 1.5 ≈ 7008200000000000000♠200000 km/s; the refractive index of air for visible light is about 1.0003, so the speed of light in air is about 7008299700000000000♠299700 km/s (about 7004900000000000000♠90 km/s slower than c).

Hero High

Hero High was a cartoon and live action series created by Filmation that aired as part of NBC's The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam! It was about a high school where young superheroes were taught how to use their powers and fight crime. Originally intended to be a new entry in Filmation's long-running line of Archie cartoon series, the 1981 series was altered at the last minute because the company's rights to the "Archie" characters had expired; nevertheless, one can easily tell which was originally the Archie character, the Reggie character, et cetera.

Main characters

In addition, several DC Comics-owned characters also appeared in the series: Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel and Isis. Both Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel were part of the parent series Kid Superpower Hour, while Isis had previously appeared in live-action form in another Filmation production, The Secrets of Isis.

The recent 2005 Disney superhero family comedy Sky High has a premise very similar to the show, with the only key difference is that the characters are in their everyday civilian clothes, not in spandex costumes, like in the latter. Needless to say, it also had a funnier, more cartoonish pace, albeit a live-action movie.

Day trading

Day trading is speculation in securities, specifically buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day. Strictly, day trading is trading only within a day, such that all positions are closed before the market closes for the trading day. Many traders may not be so strict or may have day trading as one component of an overall strategy. Traders who participate in day trading are called day traders. Traders who trade in this capacity with the motive of profit are therefore speculators.

Some of the more commonly day-traded financial instruments are stocks, options, currencies, and a host of futures contracts such as equity index futures, interest rate futures, and commodity futures.

Day trading was once an activity that was exclusive to financial firms and professional speculators. Many day traders are bank or investment firm employees working as specialists in equity investment and fund management. However, with the advent of electronic trading and margin trading, day trading has become more common.

Fox Stevenson

–Stanley Stevenson Byrne, better known by his stage name Fox Stevenson (formerly Stan SB), is an English singer-songwriter and producer of indie electronic dance music. He has released five EPs under Fox Stevenson, one under Stan SB, and has been featured on three compilations under the name of Fox Stevenson.

Career

Stevenson's interest in electronic music production began in the early 2000s, when he made his first release on the website Newgrounds. He was 15–16 years old when he created his first vocal track. He later rose to prominence through the YouTube-based music community Liquicity, where Cloudhead, one of his earliest tracks as Stan SB, was featured.

His works are also published to the audio distribution platform SoundCloud, where he has accumulated over 1.5 million plays since 2012. In 2013, he released an EP titled Endless, the title track of which has since gained over 500,000 plays on SoundCloud. In 2014, he announced the launch of his own record label, Cloudhead Records, under which he released an EP titled All This Time in the same year. In July 2014, Stevenson released Throwdown, an EP accompanied by a live online premiere. In August 2015, he released a single with Curbi titled Hoohah. In September of the same year, he released an EP titled Free Stuff that was distributed free of charge and which was followed shortly by the release of the single Comeback.

The Noise (album)

The Noise is an album by the English singer and songwriter Peter Hammill.

As the title implies, the album is a collection of uptempo rock songs, in sharp contrast to Hammill's previous album, Fireships, which consisted mainly of ballads. The album was announced on its sleeve as "Number 1 in the A Loud series" (Fireships had similarly been labelled as "Number 1 in the BeCalm series"). At the time, Hammill intended these labels to continue, and to separate his loud and quiet songs between different albums. The idea did not, however, continue beyond these two albums.

The song "Primo on the Parapet" is a tribute to the writer and Holocaust survivor Primo Levi, and has been performed many times by Hammill in concert.
