Balochi (بلوچی) is classified as a Northwestern Iranian language and is primarily spoken by the Baloch people. Iran and Pakistan are the two countries with a large Balochi population, but there is also a very significant Baloch population in Afghanistan, Oman, Turkmenistan, and the UAE. In Iran, the Baloch people are also among the Sunni minority as they are predominantly followers of Sunni Islam. In this episode, Mojtaba (Balochi speaker from Chahbahar in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan) challenges Mahtab (a Persian speaker from Mashhad) with a list of Balochi words and phrases. Mahtab also has the help of Howard, who despite being Korean, due to his close relations with Toronto’s Iranian community, aims to provide some assistance. The Persian language (Farsi) has had a huge amount of impact on other languages and cultures, mainly the Middle East, as well as Central and South Asia. Classified as one of the Western Iranian languages, Persian holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has strongly influenced many different languages, including numerous Turkic languages, as well as well as Armenian, Georgian, and many languages in the Indian subcontinent. Persian has a long history of literature and it was notable for being the first language in the Muslim world to break through Arabic's monopoly on writing. The Persian language has also influenced the Arabic language, although the impact of Arabic on Persian has been higher. But the influence of Persian in the Muslim world has been strong since the early days of Islam. It was even established as a court tradition instead of Arabic under many ruling Muslim dynasties.

The Baloch or Baluch (Balochi: بلوچ) are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region of the southeastern-most edge of the Iranian plateau in Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, as well as neighboring regions, including those in India; and having a significant diaspora in the Arabian Peninsula.
They mainly speak #Balochi, a Northwestern Iranian language, in contrast to their location on the Southeast of the Persosphere. About 50% of the total #Baloch population live in Balochistan, a western province of Pakistan; 40% of the Baloch population are settled in #Sindh; and a #significant number of Baloch people in Punjab in Pakistan. They make up nearly 3.6% of Pakistan's population, about 2% of Iran's (1.5 million), and about 2% of Afghanistan's.
History:
According to Baloch lore, their ancestors hail from Aleppo in what is now Syria. They claim to be descendants of #AmeerHamza, uncle of the prophet Muhammad, who settled in Halab (present-day Aleppo). They fled to the Sistan region, remaining there for nearly 500 years until they fled to the Makran region following a deception against the Sistan leader Badr-ud-Din.
By the 9th century, Arab writers refer to the Baloch as living in the area between #Kerman, #Khorasan, #Sistan, and #Makran in what is now eastern Iran. Although they kept flocks of sheep, the Baloches also engaged in plundering travelers on the desert routes. This brought them into conflict with the Buyids, and later the Ghaznavids and the Seljuqs. Adud al-Dawla of the Buyid dynasty launched a punitive campaign against them and defeated them in 971–972. After this, the Baloch continued their eastward migration towards what is now Balochistan province of Pakistan, although some remained behind and there are still Baloch in eastern part of the Iranian Sistan-#Baluchestan and Kerman provinces. By the 13th–14th centuries waves of Baloch were moving into Sindh, and by the 15th century into the Punjab. According to Dr. Akhtar Baloch, Professor at University of Karachi, the Balochis migrated from Balochistan during the Little Ice Age and settled in Sindh and Punjab. The Little Ice Age is conventionally defined as a period extending from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, or alternatively, from about 1300 to about 1850. Although climatologists and historians working with local records no longer expect to agree on either the start or end dates of this period, which varied according to local conditions. According to Professor Baloch, the climate of Balochistan was very cold and the region was inhabitable during the winter so the Baloch people migrated in waves and settled in Sindh and Punjab.
The area where the Baloch tribes settled was disputed between the Persian Safavids and the Mughal emperors. Although the Mughals managed to establish some control over the eastern parts of the area, by the 17th century, a tribal leader named #MirHasan established himself as the first "Khan of the Baloch". In 1666, he was succeeded by Mir Aḥmad Khan #Qambarani who established the Balochi Khanate of Kalat under the #Ahmadzai dynasty. Originally in alliance with the #Mughals, the #Khanate lost its autonomy in 1839 with the signing of a treaty with the British colonial government and the region effectively became part of British Raj.

برخی از منابع، جمعیت #قوم_بلوچ را بیش از ۵۰ میلیون تن برآورد کردهاند که بهطور تخمینی، ۱۰ میلیون تن از آنان در #ایالت_بلوچستان #پاکستان، ۱۵ میلیون تن در ایالات سند پاکستان، ۱۵ میلیون تن در ایالت پنجاب پاکستان، قریب به ۵ میلیون تن در ایران و حدود چند میلیون تن نیز در مناطقی چون #افغانستان، #ترکمنستان، عمان، کشورهای حاشیه خلیج فارس، کشورهای اروپایی، آمریکا و … حضور دارند.

In Pakistan the Baloch people are divided into two groups, the Sulaimani and the Makrani, separated from each other by a compact block of Brahui tribes.In ancient times, Iranian Balochistān provided a land route to the Indus River valley and the Babylonian civilizations. Etymology
The exact origin of the word 'Baloch' is unclear. One theory is that the word came from the Median word brza-vak, which describes a loud aggressive way of speaking. Others say the word came from the Babylonian king Belus. Still others say it is a nickname meaning "cock's comb", referring to the distinctive helmets that Balochi forces wore when they fought the Median king Astyages in the mid 6th century BCE. Finally, there are some who believe it came from the Sanskrit words "Bal" (meaning strength or power) and "Och" (meaning high or magnificent).

Culdee Fell Railway
The Culdee Fell Railway (CFR) is a fictional narrow gauge rack and pinion railway appearing in the book Mountain Engines written by the Rev. W. Awdry. The stories are based on incidents in the history of the Snowdon Mountain Railway.
Awdry visited the Snowdon Mountain Railway (SMR) with his friend, the Rev. Teddy Boston, in early 1963. That summer he wrote a 2-part article about it in his series "Remarkable Railways", for the Church of England Newspaper. The Director of the SMR at the time, A.O.E. Davis, suggested that Awdry might like to include a similar railway on Sodor. Fortunately, a suitable mountain was already marked on the first published maps of Sodor, the 2046 ft-high Culdee Fell.
In the book, the Culdee Fell Railway runs from Kirk Machan, where it meets the standard gauge line from Killdane to Peel Godred, to the summit of Culdee Fell. Devil's Back is a high exposed ridge which the railway runs along, corresponding to Clogwyn of the real Snowdon Mountain Railway.

Eric (novel)
Eric, also known as Faust Eric, is the ninth Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett. It was originally published in 1990 as a "Discworld story", in a larger format than the other novels and illustrated by Josh Kirby. It was later reissued as a normal paperback without any illustrations, and in some cases, with the title given on the cover and title pages simply as Eric. (The page headers, however, continued to alternate between Faust and Eric.)
Plot summary
The story is a parody of the tale of Faust, and follows the events of Sourcery in which the Wizard Rincewind was trapped in the Dungeon Dimensions.
Rincewind wakes in a strange place, having been summoned by the 13-year-old demonologist, Eric Thursley, who wants the mastery of all kingdoms, to meet the most beautiful woman who ever existed, and to live forever. He is disappointed when Rincewind tells him he is unable to deliver any of these things, and embarrassed when Rincewind sees through his disguise. Rincewind is disheartened to learn that the spells to confine the demon summoned are working on him; Eric's parrot tells him that because he was summoned as a demon, he is subject to the same terms.

Balochi (بلوچی) is classified as a Northwestern Iranian language and is primarily spoken by the Baloch people. Iran and Pakistan are the two countries with a large Balochi population, but there is also a very significant Baloch population in Afghanistan, Oman, Turkmenistan, and the UAE. In Iran, the Baloch people are also among the Sunni minority as they are predominantly followers of Sunni Islam. In this episode, Mojtaba (Balochi speaker from Chahbahar in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan) challenges Mahtab (a Persian speaker from Mashhad) with a list of Balochi words and phrases. Mahtab also has the help of Howard, who despite being Korean, due to his close relations with Toronto’s Iranian community, aims to provide some assistance. The Persian language (Farsi) has had a huge amount of impact on other languages and cultures, mainly the Middle East, as well as Central and South Asia. Classified as one of the Western Iranian languages, Persian holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has strongly influenced many different languages, including numerous Turkic languages, as well as well as Armenian, Georgian, and many languages in the Indian subcontinent. Persian has a long history of literature and it was notable for being the first language in the Muslim world to break through Arabic's monopoly on writing. The Persian language has also influenced the Arabic language, although the impact of Arabic on Persian has been higher. But the influence of Persian in the Muslim world has been strong since the early days of Islam. It was even established as a court tradition instead of Arabic under many ruling Muslim dynasties.

The Baloch or Baluch (Balochi: بلوچ) are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region of the southeastern-most edge of the Iranian plateau in Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, as well as neighboring regions, including those in India; and having a significant diaspora in the Arabian Peninsula.
They mainly speak #Balochi, a Northwestern Iranian language, in contrast to their location on the Southeast of the Persosphere. About 50% of the total #Baloch population live in Balochistan, a western province of Pakistan; 40% of the Baloch population are settled in #Sindh; and a #significant number of Baloch people in Punjab in Pakistan. They make up nearly 3.6% of Pakistan's population, about 2% of Iran's (1.5 million), and about 2% of Afghanistan's.
History:
According to Baloch lore, their ancestors hail from Aleppo in what is now Syria. They claim to be descendants of #AmeerHamza, uncle of the prophet Muhammad, who settled in Halab (present-day Aleppo). They fled to the Sistan region, remaining there for nearly 500 years until they fled to the Makran region following a deception against the Sistan leader Badr-ud-Din.
By the 9th century, Arab writers refer to the Baloch as living in the area between #Kerman, #Khorasan, #Sistan, and #Makran in what is now eastern Iran. Although they kept flocks of sheep, the Baloches also engaged in plundering travelers on the desert routes. This brought them into conflict with the Buyids, and later the Ghaznavids and the Seljuqs. Adud al-Dawla of the Buyid dynasty launched a punitive campaign against them and defeated them in 971–972. After this, the Baloch continued their eastward migration towards what is now Balochistan province of Pakistan, although some remained behind and there are still Baloch in eastern part of the Iranian Sistan-#Baluchestan and Kerman provinces. By the 13th–14th centuries waves of Baloch were moving into Sindh, and by the 15th century into the Punjab. According to Dr. Akhtar Baloch, Professor at University of Karachi, the Balochis migrated from Balochistan during the Little Ice Age and settled in Sindh and Punjab. The Little Ice Age is conventionally defined as a period extending from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, or alternatively, from about 1300 to about 1850. Although climatologists and historians working with local records no longer expect to agree on either the start or end dates of this period, which varied according to local conditions. According to Professor Baloch, the climate of Balochistan was very cold and the region was inhabitable during the winter so the Baloch people migrated in waves and settled in Sindh and Punjab.
The area where the Baloch tribes settled was disputed between the Persian Safavids and the Mughal emperors. Although the Mughals managed to establish some control over the eastern parts of the area, by the 17th century, a tribal leader named #MirHasan established himself as the first "Khan of the Baloch". In 1666, he was succeeded by Mir Aḥmad Khan #Qambarani who established the Balochi Khanate of Kalat under the #Ahmadzai dynasty. Originally in alliance with the #Mughals, the #Khanate lost its autonomy in 1839 with the signing of a treaty with the British colonial government and the region effectively became part of British Raj.

Balochi (بلوچی) is classified as a Northwestern Iranian language and is primarily spoken by the Baloch people. Iran and Pakistan are the two countries with a large Balochi population, but there is also a very significant Baloch population in Afghanistan, Oman, Turkmenistan, and the UAE. In Iran, the Baloch people are also among the Sunni minority as they are predominantly followers of Sunni Islam. In this episode, Mojtaba (Balochi speaker from Chahbahar in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan) challenges Mahtab (a Persian speaker from Mashhad) with a list of Balochi words and phrases. Mahtab also has the help of Howard, who despite being Korean, due to his close relations with Toronto’s Iranian community, aims to provide some assistance. The Persian language (Farsi) has had a huge amount of impact on other languages and cultures, mainly the Middle East, as well as Central and South Asia. Classified as one of the Western Iranian languages, Persian holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has strongly influenced many different languages, including numerous Turkic languages, as well as well as Armenian, Georgian, and many languages in the Indian subcontinent. Persian has a long history of literature and it was notable for being the first language in the Muslim world to break through Arabic's monopoly on writing. The Persian language has also influenced the Arabic language, although the impact of Arabic on Persian has been higher. But the influence of Persian in the Muslim world has been strong since the early days of Islam. It was even established as a court tradition instead of Arabic under many ruling Muslim dynasties.

The Baloch or Baluch (Balochi: بلوچ) are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region of the southeastern-most edge of the Iranian plateau in Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, as well as neighboring regions, including those in India; and having a significant diaspora in the Arabian Peninsula.
They mainly speak #Balochi, a Northwestern Iranian language, in contrast to their location on the Southeast of the Persosphere. About 50% of the total #Baloch population live in Balochistan, a western province of Pakistan; 40% of the Baloch population are settled in #Sindh; and a #significant number of Baloch people in Punjab in Pakistan. They make up nearly 3.6% of Pakistan's population, about 2% of Iran's (1.5 million), and about 2% of Afghanistan's.
History:
According to Baloch lore, their ancestors hail from Aleppo in what is now Syria. They claim to be descendants of #AmeerHamza, uncle of the prophet Muhammad, who settled in Halab (present-day Aleppo). They fled to the Sistan region, remaining there for nearly 500 years until they fled to the Makran region following a deception against the Sistan leader Badr-ud-Din.
By the 9th century, Arab writers refer to the Baloch as living in the area between #Kerman, #Khorasan, #Sistan, and #Makran in what is now eastern Iran. Although they kept flocks of sheep, the Baloches also engaged in plundering travelers on the desert routes. This brought them into conflict with the Buyids, and later the Ghaznavids and the Seljuqs. Adud al-Dawla of the Buyid dynasty launched a punitive campaign against them and defeated them in 971–972. After this, the Baloch continued their eastward migration towards what is now Balochistan province of Pakistan, although some remained behind and there are still Baloch in eastern part of the Iranian Sistan-#Baluchestan and Kerman provinces. By the 13th–14th centuries waves of Baloch were moving into Sindh, and by the 15th century into the Punjab. According to Dr. Akhtar Baloch, Professor at University of Karachi, the Balochis migrated from Balochistan during the Little Ice Age and settled in Sindh and Punjab. The Little Ice Age is conventionally defined as a period extending from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, or alternatively, from about 1300 to about 1850. Although climatologists and historians working with local records no longer expect to agree on either the start or end dates of this period, which varied according to local conditions. According to Professor Baloch, the climate of Balochistan was very cold and the region was inhabitable during the winter so the Baloch people migrated in waves and settled in Sindh and Punjab.
The area where the Baloch tribes settled was disputed between the Persian Safavids and the Mughal emperors. Although the Mughals managed to establish some control over the eastern parts of the area, by the 17th century, a tribal leader named #MirHasan established himself as the first "Khan of the Baloch". In 1666, he was succeeded by Mir Aḥmad Khan #Qambarani who established the Balochi Khanate of Kalat under the #Ahmadzai dynasty. Originally in alliance with the #Mughals, the #Khanate lost its autonomy in 1839 with the signing of a treaty with the British colonial government and the region effectively became part of British Raj.

برخی از منابع، جمعیت #قوم_بلوچ را بیش از ۵۰ میلیون تن برآورد کردهاند که بهطور تخمینی، ۱۰ میلیون تن از آنان در #ایالت_بلوچستان #پاکستان، ۱۵ میلیون تن در ایالات سند پاکستان، ۱۵ میلیون تن در ایالت پنجاب پاکستان، قریب به ۵ میلیون تن در ایران و حدود چند میلیون تن نیز در مناطقی چون #افغانستان، #ترکمنستان، عمان، کشورهای حاشیه خلیج فارس، کشورهای اروپایی، آمریکا و … حضور دارند.
