India Amanda Caroline Hicks (born 5 September 1967 in London, England) is a former fashion model.
Hicks is the third child of Lady Pamela Mountbatten and David Nightingale Hicks, an interior designer of the 1960s and 1970s. Through her maternal grandfather, The Earl Mountbatten of Burma, she is a second cousin to The Prince of Wales, who is also her godfather.
Brought up in London and Oxfordshire, she attended Gordonstoun school in Scotland, until she was expelled for entertaining boys in her room. She spent holidays at the family estate in Ireland and at her father's self-designed and built Bahamian-holiday home. In 1981, she served as bridesmaid to Lady Diana Spencer at her wedding to Prince Charles.
India has published three books: Island Life, Island Beauty, and, most recently, Island Style (which made The New York Times Best Seller List).
India is connected to a broad spectrum of tastemakers and is established as an influencer amongst modern, strong, entrepreneurial women.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
A military academy or service academy (in American English) is an educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of the army, the navy, marine corps, air force or coast guard. It normally provides education in a military environment, the exact definition depending on the country concerned.
Three types of academy exist: high school-level institutions awarding academic qualifications, university-level institutions awarding bachelor's degree level qualification, and those preparing officer cadets for commissioning into the armed services of the state.
The first military academies were established in the 18th century to provide future officers for technically specialized corps, such as engineers and artillery, with scientific training.
The Royal Danish Naval Academy was set up in 1701, making it the oldest military academy, to existing in the world. The Royal Military Academy, Woolwich was set up in 1720 as the earliest military academy in Britain. Its original purpose was to train cadets entering the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. In France, the École Royale du Génie at Mézières was founded in 1748, followed by a non-technical academy in 1751, the École Royale Militaire offering a general military education to the nobility. French military academies were widely copied in Prussia, Austria, Russia and even minor powers, including Turin and the Kingdom of Savoy, in the late 18th century.

Pottery Barn is a United States-based upscale home furnishing store chain with retail stores in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Mexico and Australia. Pottery Barn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma, Inc., since September 1986, when it was purchased from GAP, Inc.
The Pottery Barn was co-founded in 1949 by Paul Secon and his brother Morris. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Pottery Barn also operates several specialty stores under the titles Pottery Barn Kids and PBteen. Pottery Barn has two retail catalogues, the traditional Pottery Barn catalogue and Pottery Barn Bed + Bath to focus only on its bed and bath lines.
PBteen is the first home retailer to focus on teenagers in the 13–19 age range. It was launched in 2003. The first PB Teen store opened in Georgia in 2009, as well as in New York City and Chicago. The store now has a sub brand PB Dorm aimed at young people starting college life.
Pottery Barn is referenced a number of times in the US TV Show Friends, for example when Rachel buys furniture for Phoebe's house (which she is staying in at the time), and claims that it's all authenticly old furniture, it's actually all from Pottery Barn. Another example is in TV show Seinfeld, Kramer talks with Jerry about how he is receiving too many catalogs from Pottery Barn. He saves the collected catalogs, takes them and throws them into the store. Also Sheldon Cooper references it often in the show The Big Bang Theory.

Packed into the front of this little suitcase during one of the early stages of development was our fragrance bottle, sent to me as a sample to see how it would travel. Instead of filling it with the real English Rose fragrance it was filled with a rough sort of antiseptic liquid. We were only reviewing the weight of the bottle so the liquid inside was irrelevant. When I reached my destination I opened my case to find the bottle had been stolen. I was rather delighted, clearly English Rose was going to be popular. Although I did smile at the thought of the thief spritzing them selves with antiseptic. Leaving on a work trip every ten days for twelve months certainly taught me how to pack efficiently. But you need a Domino for that final push.

History [edit]Partridge and his academy The university was founded in 1819 at Norwich by military educator and former superintendent of West Point, Captain Alden B. Partridge. Captain Partridge believed in the "American System of Education," a traditional liberal arts curriculum with instruction in civil engineering and military science. After leaving West Point because of congressional disapproval of his system, he returned to his native state of Vermont to create the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy. Captain Partridge, in founding his academy, rebelled against the reforms of Sylvanus Thayer to prevent the rise of what he saw as the greatest threat to the security of the young republic: a professional officer class. “Every photographic image presents two messages: one related to the photographic event and the other related to an abrupt blow of discontinuity. Between the recorded moment and the actual moment we are looking at there is an abyss; the traumatic discontinuity generated by absence or death”. From an essay on “La Chambre Claire” by Roland Barthes Every short-film shows a person caught in the act of photographing a scene based on a personal vision, at the same time the photos taken by the individual appear on one side of the screen … a parallelism between different dimensions, a slow stream of facts. Then, all of a sudden, a black figure appears and kills the photographers. An allegory of death, profoundly linked to the concept of photography. “Muertes” shows 20 short-films included in a...

My friend Nicky Haslam, having launched it first in the UK, just published his latest book, A Designer’s Life, with Rizzoli Publications in New York. His books go down extraordinarily well as his creative English wit and his acute observations. After being struck with Polio as a child he was Educated at England’s most elite institution, Eton College, but he has never really accepted a straight and narrow path. He has always followed his keen eye and open heart. His progress will have caused many an establishment eyebrow to raise: a significant period as a Cowboy was followed (with as much energy and panache) as a photographer. His design persona then took over, creating interiors and parties for clients such as Natalie Wood. With a generous dose of belief that the world is his oyster, Ni...
It's just a little over 68 years since my mother touched down on Indian soil with my grandparents (rather poetically today my mother turns 86). This provides a glorious excuse to interview Jaya Thadani and hear all her stories again. Jaya is a direct link to my heritage. Not only because she worked as a personal secretary for my grandmother in India in 1947, but also because she offered my mother some much-needed company (from someone who was the same age). Jaya is strong and feisty – two qualities which I so admire. She has an amazing memory and talking to her brings alive again those stories of my grandparents and my mother at that great turning point in India’s history.
Sensational leather bags were strewn all over Anya Hindmarch’s office when I went to chat to her, but my eye kept being drawn to the very large, very well-stocked drinks trolley in the corner of her office. “On the last Friday of the month,” explained Anya, "I pull this out and the entire company comes in for a drink – everyone from the van driver to the finance director.” And that finance director is also her husband. And the father of her 5 kids. Yes five. A number I am familiar with. All her numbers are impressive: 1000, the number of pounds she borrowed to start her business; 19, the age she was when she opened her first shop; 3, the number of Design awards she has won at the British Fashion Awards; and 50, the number of shops she now has. And not to forget 1, the MBE she has from the...

Fire burning in a hill
The lines are rocky rough
Red angels wait to pick remains
The cindered shoulder
Of confused men
Separate from them, their awe
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray indigo eyes
Indigo eyes, asking
His heaven is uncovered not
A black tree blocks his way
His way is skating round a dome
His way is in dismay
The playmate sings
Like Orphee in some thunder world
Asking to be bathed in light
To be exemplified
Like Orphee in some thunder world
Asking to be bathed in light
To be exemplified
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Saw his past
He had dug for trust
With blind infected hands
And wondered as the hurt bit hard
Why the sacred weren't at hand
Only when his ears were deaf
To the angels light burst waves
Only when his ears were deaf
Did life turn from fog to fog
But not evil but estranged
But not evil but estranged
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray, indigo eyes
