Sony has officially announced God of War 4, choosing to use the game to open its E3 2016 press conference.
And it's certainly a very different game to the previous God of War titles. For one, Kratos is still human and it's not even officially called God of War 4. It's simply called God of War and it seems to be a reboot of sorts, with a new Norse setting.
From the gameplay we saw at E3 2016 it seems that the game is focused on the relationship between our antihero Kratos and a young boy - his son - following the loss of the boy's mother.
Kratos leads the boy out of their home to explore the beautiful open-world. The pair are following a large elk, with Kratos teaching the boy how to hunt with a bow.
Gameplay wise we're looking at hack-and-slash stuff but it's very visceral and close quarters.
Also, Kratos doesn't have the Blades of Chaos. Instead he has an axe that seems to be imbued with magic - particularly ice in this case. Kratos later on fights a large enemy and triggers what was called Spartan Rage, which made him go apeshit with melee attacks on the massive beast.
It's certainly a very different God of War game from what we've seen so far, but don't just take our word for it, take a look at the trailer for God of War from Sony Santa Monica Studio.
