Agent J (born James Darrell Edwards III, and also called Jay, or just J) is a fictional MIB agent in the film Men in Black, its sequels Men in Black II and Men in Black 3, and Men in Black: The Series. Jay is portrayed by Will Smith in the three films and voiced by Keith Diamond in the animated series.
Not much is known of the life of James Darrell Edwards III prior to being recruited to MIB. His appearance as a small child in 1969 in Men in Black 3 would place his year of birth in 1965. His father, United States Army Colonel James Darrell Edwards II, was working security at Kennedy Space Center for the Apollo 11 launch when he was murdered by Boris the Animal after assisting Agent K in stopping a chain of events that would have led to K's death and a widescale invasion of Earth forty years later. Nothing else is known about the preceding twenty-eight years save that James joined the NYPD. Though little is known of J's personal life outside of his role as an agent of Men in Black, he is known to be a big fan of video games and rap music. A line of dialogue from Men in Black II suggests he owned a Game Boy.

Plot: After breaking out of a moon-based maximum security prison, Boris the Animal decides to go back in time and eliminate the person who arrested him - Agent K. When he does so, Agent J realizes that the time line has been changed and he too travels back to July 15, 1969, the day before Agent K is killed. After overcoming some disbelief, J manages to convince K and others of just who he is and why he's there. With the help of a being who can see all time lines, they track Boris down. J also learns a secret, something K had never told him.

Plot: The Men in Black have relocated - to Universal Studios Florida. MIB Special Services has created an edutainment-type attraction called The Universe and You, out of which Intergalactic Alien Immigration Services actually operates. Once the Disney-esque program is disengaged, guests are whisked into a stainless steel elevator and into MIB headquarters. As trainees, guests are informed by Agent Zed and J that they will get zappers and be able to test inside the training simulator. Of course, as with any good attraction, something goes terribly wrong and a ship full of alien bad guys crash lands in the middle of the city, and it's up to the trainees to stop them.
