Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Wednesday, April 22, spoke on the House Floor and read the names of 1,000 people killed during the Armenian Genocide. After business concluded in the House for the day, Schiff spent an hour reading the names of constituents' relatives and those in the Armenian-American community that were submitted over the past two weeks to his office through social media and email.
As each name was read, Schiff also tweeted the names, along with the hashtag #NeverForget1915, in reference to the 100-year anniversary of the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.
Schiff’s reading of the names came the day after the White House confirmed that President Obama would not use the word “genocide” when he issues a statement today on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“In a single hour, I was only able to read the names of a mere fraction of those who were killed in the Armenian Genocide,” Schiff said in a statement. “To read all of the names of the more than 1.5 million people murdered at the time would take many weeks, and I hope that the recitation of the victims will help call attention to the magnitude of the crime. A name, unlike a number, is no abstraction — each was a son or daughter, a mother or father, a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle; each was a precious life.”

V.Komitas ''Havoun, havoun (About the bird)''The Music of Armenia Vol. 2, Medieval Music
The Music of Armenia, Volume Two: Sharakan spans fifteen centuries of Armenian music, and Komitas' presence can be deeply felt in some of the arrangements. In many of these songs, though, conductor Daniel Erazhisht has wedded the exotic, often melancholy lyricism of the Near East to the classical purity of a European chamber ensemble, consisting of string quartet, voice, and flute. Honer Nazhat Trip to Tsaghkadzor & Sevan Lake Armenia 2015
Tsaghkadzor is a spa town and a popular health resort in Armenia, located north of the capital Yerevan in the Kotayk Province(marz). According to the 2011 census, the town has a population of 1,256, down from 3,400 reported in the 1989 census.
Tsaghkadzor was known as Tsaghkunyats Dzor during the medieval period. In the 11th century, the town was known as Kecharuyk or Kecharis derived from the Kecharis Principality under the Armenian Pahlavuni family. Tsaghkadzor literally means valley of flowers in Armenian. The name of Tsaghkadzor is associated with the name of the nearby Tsaghkunyats Mountains, located to the west of the town.
Geography
Tsaghkadzor is located 50 kilometers north of the capital Yerevan and 3 kilometers east of the provincial centre Hrazdan. Surrounded with alpine meadows, the town is situated on the southeastern slope of the Teghenis Mountains, at a height of 1841 meters above sea level. The Tsaghkunyats mounatain range is located to the west of the town.
Lake Sevan
Is the largest lake in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is one of the largest fresh-water high-altitude lakes in the world.
Lake Sevan is situated in the central part of the Republic of Armenia, inside the Gegharkunik Province, at the altitude of 1,900m above sea level. The total surface area of its basin is about 5,000 km2, the lake itself is 940 km2, and the volume is 34.0 bln cubic metres. It is fed by 28 rivers and streams. Only 10% of the outgoing water is drained by the Hrazdan (Razdan) river, while the remaining 90% evaporates.
Before human intervention dramatically changed the Lake Sevan ecosystem, the lake was 95 metres deep, covered an area of 1,360 km² (5% of Armenia's entire area), had a volume of 58 km³ and a perimeter of 260 km. The lake surface was at an altitude of 1,916 m above sea level.
Along with Lake Van and Lake Urmia, Sevan was considered one of the three great lakes of the historical Armenian Kingdom, collectively referred to as the Seas of Armenia; it is the only one within the boundaries of today's Republic of Armenia. The Sevanavank peninsula (formerly an island) is the historic area of the lake at its northern shores.

History of Armenia
Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding the Biblical mountains of Ararat. The original Armenian name for the country was Hayk, later Hayastan (Armenian: Հայաստան), translated as the land of Haik, and consisting of the name of the ancient Mesopotamian god Haya (ha-ià) and the Iranian suffix '-stan' ("land"). The historical enemy of Hayk (the legendary ruler of Armenia), Hayastan, was Bel, or in other words Baal (Akkadian cognate Bēlu). The word "Bel" is named in the Bible at Isaiah 46:1 and Jeremiah 50:2 and 51:44.
The name Armenia was given to the country by the surrounding states, and it is traditionally derived from Armenak or Aram (the great-grandson of Haik's great-grandson, and another leader who is, according to Armenian tradition, the ancestor of all Armenians). In the Bronze Age, several states flourished in the area of Greater Armenia, including the Hittite Empire (at the height of its power), Mitanni (South-Western historical Armenia), and Hayasa-Azzi (1600–1200 BC). Soon after the Hayasa-Azzi were the Nairi (1400–1000 BC) and the Kingdom of Urartu (1000–600 BC), who successively established their sovereignty over the Armenian Highland. Each of the aforementioned nations and tribes participated in the ethnogenesis of the Armenian people. Yerevan, the modern capital of Armenia, dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by King Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. Erebuni has been described as "designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital."
The Iron Age kingdom of Urartu (Assyrian for Ararat) was replaced by the Orontid dynasty. Following Persian and Macedonian rule, the Artaxiad dynasty from 190 BC gave rise to the Kingdom of Armenia which rose to the peak of its influence under Tigranes II before falling under Roman rule.
In 301, Arsacid Armenia was the first sovereign nation to accept Christianity as a state religion. The Armenians later fell under Byzantine, Persian, and Islamic hegemony, but reinstated their independence with the Bagratuni Dynasty kingdom of Armenia. After the fall of the kingdom in 1045, and the subsequent Seljuk conquest of Armenia in 1064, the Armenians established a kingdom in Cilicia, where they prolonged their sovereignty to 1375.
Greater Armenia was later divided between the Ottoman Empire and Russia. In the early 20th century Armenians suffered in the genocide inflicted on them by the Ottoman government, in which 1.5 million Armenians were killed and many more dispersed throughout the world via Syria and Lebanon. Armenia, from then on corresponding to much of Eastern Armenia, regained independence in 1918, with the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia, and in 1991, the Republic of Armenia.

The Shake waterfall
The story claims that long-long ago there lived a beautiful black-eyed Armenian girl with long curly hair. Her name was Shake. During the invasion of Temur-Lenk, his soldiers were engrossed by Shake's beauty and fancied to kidnap her, but Shake, who was keen on her liberty like the nature of her country, did not feel like to become Temur-Link's wife. She ran away from those who persecuted her and jetted herself into the Vorotan Gorge. Falling from 18 meters, like the hair of beautiful Shake, the water forms something majestic in combination with Vorotan Gorge. The waterfall is considered to be on of "7 miracles" in the region, it is beautiful the whole year around and always attracts those who value the nature.
It is located 3 Km from Sisian, on the Shake feeder on the left bank of the Vorotan River. It is 18 m high. Shake is the highest and the most beautiful waterfall of Armenia and, as a place of sightseeing, permanently hosts tourists and visitors.
Водопад Шаке самый высокий в Армении.
Waterfall Shake is the highest in Armenia.

As a result, the sound is immediately accessible to Western listeners, even as the melodies capture the ear with their surprising arabesques.
Several instrumental tracks featuring the traditional Armenian lute, or tar, are also included; but perhaps the most striking song in the collection is an almost cantorial work for voice and piano; Horzham, from the Divine Liturgy of Komitas' teacher Makar Yekmalian, suggests the common roots of early Jewish, Eastern Christian, and Islamic singing.
Sharakan is not just the name of a type of medieval song, it is also the name of Daniel Erazhisht's ensemble. The Sharakan Early Music Ensemble was founded in 1991 to perform Armenian music of the Middle Ages, starting from the 5th century. It was created by Grigor Danielian, who has followed the age–old Armenian tradition of taking a pseudonym, in his case Daniel Erazhisht, for his musical work. The name Daniel Erazhisht literally means Daniel the Musician, and was the name of an outstanding musical figure of the eleventh century.

A Turkish prosecutor who handled probes into alleged coup cases in Turkey has fled with a colleague to Germany via Georgia and Armenia after learning of an upcoming arrest warrant issued in his name, daily Hürriyet reported on Aug. 14.
Former prosecutor Zekeriya Öz fled to Armenia through Georgia on Aug. 10, some 12 hours before the Bakırköy Chief Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul issued an arrest warrant for him and two other former prosecutors, Celal Kara and Mehmet Yüzgeç. The suspects have been accused of attempting to overthrow the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government by force and forming a criminal organization.
Reports indicated Öz flew to Germany from Armenia on Aug. 11 without encountering any problems because the arrest warrant had not been issued at the time.
It remains unknown whether Germany was Öz’s final destination.
Öz led probes into alleged coup plots, most significantly the controversial Ergenekon trials, during which he was criticized for human rights violations.
He was also the prosecutor who launched the Dec. 17, 2013, graft probe, the country’s most extensive corruption investigation to date, which implicated senior government figures including former ministers Muammer Güler, Erdoğan Bayraktar, Egemen Bağış and Zafer Çağlayan.
The sharp turn in Öz’s relationship with the AKP government was believed to be associated with a feud between the AKP and U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, who allegedly has influence over the Turkish judiciary.
Öz had been dismissed from his post as Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor on May 12 and downgraded to a minor position.
Meanwhile, Ahmet Çörtoğlu, the lawyer of former Ergenekon suspect Tuncay Özkan, told Hürriyet Turkish authorities had turned a blind eye to Öz’s escape.
Çörtoğlu underlined other prosecutors had been suspended from their duties as soon as a judicial processes began, and questioned why this practice was not applied for Öz, Kara and Yüzgeç.
“Rules did not apply to them because they have too much evidence against the government. The arrest warrant in question was not issued for the Ergenekon trials but for the corruption probe. However, they were allowed to flee. Either the arrest warrant was issued after they escaped, or the Gülenist establishment [referring to Gülen’s followers] is still active within the judiciary and gave them a heads up,” he said.
Zekeriya Öz’s cousin, Yusuf Öz, who was a candidate MP for the Democratic Party (DP) during the June 7 election, also joined the debate by commenting to Doğan News Agency, saying he should not have fled.
Yusuf Öz argued his cousin had been manipulated by the AKP government and probably fled because he did not trust the Turkish justice system.
“Yesterday he was celebrated as a hero, now he is slammed as a traitor, which is a situation that needs to be questioned,” he said.
In the meantime, Yusuf Öz alleged his cousin pursued the coup attempt investigations because of his ties with Gülen.
“He went to one of their schools and he was grateful to the Gülen movement. That is probably why he felt compelled to work with them. He is in fact a smart, nationalist and religious person,” he said.

Tigranocerta ( Tigranakert, Martyropolis, Nprkert. Armenian: Տիգրանակերտ,Մարտիրոպոլիս, Նփրկերտ) was the capital of the Armenian Kingdom. It bore the name of Tigranes the Great, who founded the city in the first century BC. The name of the city means "made by Tigran", and was possibly located near present-day Silvan or nearby Arzan (Arzn, in the Armenian province of Arzanene or Aghdznik), east of Diyarbakır. It was one of four cities in historic Armenia named Tigranakert. The others were located in Nakhichevan, Artsakh and Utik.
To create this city, Tigranes forced many people out of their homes to make up the population. Armenia at this time had expanded east to the Caspian Sea, west to central Cappadocia, and south towards Judea, advancing as far as the regions surrounding what is now the Krak des Chevaliers.
The city's markets were filled with traders and merchants doing business from all over the ancient world. Tigranocerta quickly became a very important commercial, as well as cultural center of the Near East. The magnificent theater that was established by the Emperor, of which he was an avid devotee, conducted dramas and comedies mostly played by Greek as well as Armenian actors. Plutarch wrote that Tigranocerta was "a rich and beautiful city where every common man and every man of rank studied to adorn it." The Hellenistic culture during the Artaxiad Dynasty had a strong influence and the Greek language was in fact the official language of the court. Tigranes had divided Greater Armenia – the nucleus of the Empire – into four major strategic regions or viceroyalties.
A Roman force under Lucius Lucullus defeated Tigranes at the Battle of Tigranocerta nearby in 69 BC, and afterwards sacked the city, sending many of the people back to their original homes.
After the plunder, which included the destruction of statues and temples, the city was set ablaze. An abundant quantity of gold and silver was carried off to Rome as war booty. Lucullus took most of the gold and silver from the melted-down statues, pots, cups and other valuable metals and precious stones. During the pillage most of the city's inhabitants fled to the countryside. The newly established theater building was also destroyed in the fire. The great city would never recover from this devastating destruction.
During Pompey the Great's 'conquests of the east', Tigranocerta was retaken briefly by Rome, but was lost when Tigranes the Great was given parts of his kingdom back after his initial surrender to Pompey for the cost of 6,000 talents (an indemnity paid to Rome over an uncertain period). It was again taken by the Romans under Corbulo, during the Roman–Parthian War of 58–63.
During the Ottoman period, Armenians referred to the city of Diyarbekir as Dikranagerd (Western Armenian pronunciation of Tigranakert)

Each of the aforementioned nations and tribes participated in the ethnogenesis of the Armenian people.[3] Yerevan, the modern capital of Armenia, dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by King Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain.
