In computing, a clone is a hardware or software system that is designed to function in the same way as another system. A specific subset of clones are Remakes (or Remades), which are revivals of old, obsolete, or discontinued products.
Clones and remakes are created for various reasons, including competition, standardization, availability across platforms, and even as homage. Compatibility with the original system is usually the explicit purpose of cloning hardware or low-level software such as operating systems (e.g. AROS and MorphOS are intended to be compatible with AmigaOS). Application software can be cloned simply by providing similar functionality (all word processors have the same basic purpose), but may also be designed to support specific file formats (e.g. OpenOffice.org is intended to supplant Microsoft Office).
Commercially motivated clones are made often during a competitor product's initial successful commercial run, intentionally competing with the original and trying to participate on their success.
Clone may refer to:
A personal computer is a general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities and original sale price make it useful for individuals, and is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer time-sharing models that allowed larger, more expensive minicomputer and mainframe systems to be used by many people, usually at the same time.
Software applications for most personal computers include, but are not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web browsers and e-mail clients, digital media playback, games and many personal productivity and special-purpose software applications. Modern personal computers often have connections to the Internet, allowing access to the World Wide Web and a wide range of other resources. Personal computers may be connected to a local area network (LAN), either by a cable or a wireless connection. A personal computer may be a laptop computer or a desktop computer running an operating system such as Windows, Linux (and the various operating systems based on it), or Macintosh OS.
The IBM Personal Computer, commonly known as the IBM PC, is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform. It is IBM model number 5150, and was introduced on August 12, 1981. It was created by a team of engineers and designers under the direction of Don Estridge of the IBM Entry Systems Division in Boca Raton, Florida.
The generic term "personal computer" was in use before 1981, applied as early as 1972 to the Xerox PARC's Alto, but because of the success of the IBM Personal Computer, the term "PC" came to mean more specifically a desktop microcomputer compatible with IBM's PC products. Within a short time of the introduction, third-party suppliers of peripheral devices, expansion cards, and software proliferated; the influence of the IBM PC on the personal computer market was substantial in standardizing a platform for personal computers. "IBM compatible" became an important criterion for sales growth; only the Apple Macintosh family kept significant market share without compatibility with the IBM personal computer.
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to various processes used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.
Futurologists such as Jeremy Rifkin believe that 3D printing signals the beginning of a third industrial revolution, succeeding the production line assembly that dominated manufacturing starting in the late 19th century. Using the power of the Internet, it may eventually be possible to send a blueprint of any product to any place in the world to be replicated by a 3D printer with "elemental inks" capable of being combined into any material substance of any desired form.
3D printing in the term's original sense refers to processes that sequentially deposit material onto a powder bed with inkjet printer heads. More recently, the meaning of the term has expanded to encompass a wider variety of techniques such as extrusion and sintering-based processes. Technical standards generally use the term additive manufacturing for this broader sense.
Power Computing was one of several companies making Mac clones during the brief period of 1995-1997 when Apple was losing badly to PCs running Windows, and thought the solution was to license other companies to make Macintosh-compatible computers. Needless to say, it didn't work, and only served to further reduce Apple's own market share. So when Steve Jobs came back to Apple in 1998, he ended the Mac clone license agreements, and bought out Power Computing for $100 million. This PowerBase 240 model is built very much like a PC, except that it has a 240 MHz PowerPC 603e processor, and Mac-compatible ports on the back, as well as standard PC-type PS/2 and VGA ports. From the front, it looks just like any other mid- to late-'90s desktop PC, except that the floppy drive is auto-eject, so i...

This unboxing video is showing what you can get when you buy a Retro IBM 5150 Personal Computer Clone Kit from company called PC-Retro. I absolutely love DIY and RETRO electronics, I love building devices with my own hands and basic tools. Technical Spec Of This Project: This kit is a faithful reproduction of the classic IBM PC 5150 motherboard from 1982. PC-Retro have been in development of this product for over 1 year. They started with the original circuit diagrams, as published by IBM on their Technical Reference Manual. These open source circuit diagrams launched an explosion in PC clone products. Reverse engineering the original IBM board was a substantial undertaking, as the creators found many differences between the 'official' circuit diagrams and actual board construction. Ad...

It most closely resembles an alternative for Symantec Ghost Solution Suite™ or Acronis Snap Deploy™. It supports imaging Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Linux, and OSX. CrucibleWDS is not the first of its kind, but what separates it from the rest, is it’s simplicity. It is also the only open source imaging solution that can be installed on both Windows and Linux. It supports Unicast and Multicast technologies.

This customer ran out of room on his 500GB SSD in his computer that i built just seven months prior with all new parts. Now he's purchased a 1TB SSD and wants me to clone everything off the old drive onto the new one without losing any of his data, programs or configurations. He would further request that I reset the old 500GB SSD iso that he can utilize that as another place to store his future files. Disney's 2013 Frozen film is very popular. Frozen toys were in huge demand causing an under supply. It was impossible to buy a Mattel Anna or Elsa doll, let alone figures of Olaf, Sven or Kristoff. The lack of stock of real Disney Frozen toys left the market open for nasty knock off imitation toys to flood the dark markets and e-bay. The astonishing aspect to this was the prices of some fake toys which could pull premium prices for what is essentially the lowest quality toy which present real choking hazards to small children. The knock off Frozen toys used almost identical packaging to fool the consumer. To a child it looked just like the real Disney product. I saw many online auctions where venders were adding to real Frozen Disney toys crappy knock off toys to sweeten the deal (sometime...

The process of initializing the new SSD is NOT covered in this video so I suggest that you call your SSD manufacturers support line to see if and how you will need to initialize your new drive either before or during watching this video. This is a Windows 10 laptop in the video and Windows 10 made it hard to find easy to use, FREE, cloning software as Windows 10 (as I type this) incompatible with most of them.
