'Assam BJP meet to focus on party-govt coordination'
Naresh Mitra | TNN | Jun 14, 2016, 07.15 AM ISTGuwahati: The resolutions taken at the BJP national executive meet in Allahabad are all set to be discussed at the Assam unit's executive conclave here on June 22.
BJP insiders said the issue of better coordination between the party and the government would take centrestage.
The executive meeting on June 22 will be BJP's first after the saffron party and its partners formed the government.
Senior BJP leaders said as people had given a huge mandate in favour of the saffron party, it has become an imperative for the party to have a mechanism for maintaining a smooth coordination between BJP as a party and the government. Better coordination was essential to reach out to the people and inform them about the performance of the government, said a senior party leader.
Many of these leaders had cited lack of understanding between the party and the government as one of the factors behind the defeat of Congress, which was in power in the state for 15 years.
"We want to avoid what happened to Congress. So, the issue of better communication and coordination between the saffron party and the government was raised at the executive meeting," a senior BJP leader said.
Though Congress denied BJP's charges, many within the party conceded that most of the time Congress members were unable to reach out to grassroots workers and tell them about the party's achievements.
"This is a baseless charge. We never think that lack of coordination can be the reason for our defeat. We have our own way of analysing the election results," Congress spokesperson Apurba Bhattacharya said.
Assam BJP president (in-charge) Shantanu Bharali, however, said the party's conclave will be based on the resolutions of the national executive.
"Once the resolutions of our national executive are out, we will finalize our agenda for the state executive," added Bharali.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, minister and BJP national executive member Himanta Biswa Sarma, party national general secretary Ram Madhav, BJP in-charge for Assam Mahendra Singh and other party leaders and office bearers will attend the executive meeting.
Sonowal, who is also the president of state BJP, will preside over the meet.
