The film features a children's comic duo, Maeda Maeda, made up of brothers Koki Maeda, 12, and Oshiro Maeda, 10, who have worked in the world of television as much in dramas as in variety programs. The story revolves around two children of a divorced couple. The children are separated, one living with his mother in the city of Fukuoka and the other with the father in Kagoshima. Their dream is to reunite their parents, and with the news of the opening of a railway line that will link the two cities, the children heed a rumor that says that when the first trains were crossing, a miracle will happen. So, they begin to plot a plan to reunite to their parents. Kore-eda, apparently a great lover of the world of trains, wanted to make a film to coincide with the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen line, which connects the cities of Fukuoka and Kagoshima. Inspired by meeting the Maeda duo in an audition, he created, with the two in mind as protagonists, the script for the new film. The adult cast is luxurious, with Nene Otsuka (Bashing) and Jo Odagiri (Dream) playing the parents, and also featuring Yui Natsukawa (Hana), Hiroshi Abe (Still Walking), Yui Natsukawa (Go Find a Psychic!) and veterans Isao Hashizume and Kirin Kiki (Still Walking).
