Farmer remains defiant in this embarrassing episode of Ralph Edwards' "This is Your Life". I do not consider this in any way an 'insult' to Ms. Farmer. I see a very brave woman here. The show IS very awkward. Television freak show. I am allowing NO comments on these videos as I am sick of reading emotional gibberish from people who don't know the 'truth' about Frances Farmer. The fact is, NO one can be sure. The movie was lies, the books have been lies. I find her a rare beauty, but I think we need to look in one's own mirror to see one's own worst enemy. I have never seen any proof that Farmer was lobotomized. This is a video of an old 1950's television show. It's about Frances Farmer. Not Seattle. Not Kurt Cobain. She agreed to do the show. She did continue in show business, although never made a great 'comeback'. I am an old curmudgeon and I recognize bizarre television when I see it. I was eight years old when I saw Lee Harvey Oswald get plugged by Jack Ruby. I remember being embarrassed for the women on 'Queen For A Day' when I was just six or seven. If anything, this show was just a teaser for many freak shows to come: 'O.J. Simpson Trial' on Court TV, Honey Boo Boo, World's Dumbest Criminals with Tonya Harding, Tyson biting part of Holyfield's ear off, how about Jim Jones' Grape Kool-Aid test? Heaven's Gate loonies, anyone? Wacko MIchael Jacko dangling someone's kid from a high hotel balcony? 'Caitlin' Jenner being handed an ESPY Courage Award? (This last one is particularly freakish in that it besmirches the memory of a particular honorable man, the late Arthur Ashe.)
In short, don't bother posting anything here. I've heard it all. I think the video speaks for itself. I didn't know Frances Farmer. I read one of the biographies that was full of lies. I see a sad, nervous but very brave woman here. That is what I meant by 'defiant'.

Frances Farmer
Frances Elena Farmer (September 19, 1913 – August 1, 1970) was an American actress and television host. She is perhaps better known for sensationalized accounts of her life, especially her involuntary commitment to a mental hospital. Farmer was the subject of two films, one television special, three books, and numerous songs and magazine articles.
Early life
Farmer was born in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Lillian (née Van Ornum 1873-1955) and Ernest Melvin Farmer. In 1931, while attending West Seattle High School, she entered and won $100 from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a writing contest sponsored by Scholastic Magazine, with her controversial essay "God Dies". It was a precocious attempt to reconcile her wish for, in her words, a "superfather" God, with her observations of a chaotic and godless world. In her autobiography, she wrote that the essay was influenced by her reading of Friedrich Nietzsche: "He expressed the same doubts, only he said it in German: 'Gott ist tot.' God is dead. This I could understand. I was not to assume that there was no God, but I could find no evidence in my life that He existed or that He had ever shown any particular interest in me. I was not an atheist, but I was surely an agnostic, and by the time I was sixteen I was well indoctrinated into this theory."

Farmer remains defiant in this embarrassing episode of Ralph Edwards' "This is Your Life". I do not consider this in any way an 'insult' to Ms. Farmer. I see a very brave woman here. The show IS very awkward. Television freak show. I am allowing NO comments on these videos as I am sick of reading emotional gibberish from people who don't know the 'truth' about Frances Farmer. The fact is, NO one can be sure. The movie was lies, the books have been lies. I find her a rare beauty, but I think we need to look in one's own mirror to see one's own worst enemy. I have never seen any proof that Farmer was lobotomized. This is a video of an old 1950's television show. It's about Frances Farmer. Not Seattle. Not Kurt Cobain. She agreed to do the show. She did continue in show business, although never made a great 'comeback'. I am an old curmudgeon and I recognize bizarre television when I see it. I was eight years old when I saw Lee Harvey Oswald get plugged by Jack Ruby. I remember being embarrassed for the women on 'Queen For A Day' when I was just six or seven. If anything, this show was just a teaser for many freak shows to come: 'O.J. Simpson Trial' on Court TV, Honey Boo Boo, World's Dumbest Criminals with Tonya Harding, Tyson biting part of Holyfield's ear off, how about Jim Jones' Grape Kool-Aid test? Heaven's Gate loonies, anyone? Wacko MIchael Jacko dangling someone's kid from a high hotel balcony? 'Caitlin' Jenner being handed an ESPY Courage Award? (This last one is particularly freakish in that it besmirches the memory of a particular honorable man, the late Arthur Ashe.)
In short, don't bother posting anything here. I've heard it all. I think the video speaks for itself. I didn't know Frances Farmer. I read one of the biographies that was full of lies. I see a sad, nervous but very brave woman here. That is what I meant by 'defiant'.
