Mista Savona
Mista Savona (born Jake Dominic Savona) is a highly regarded Reggae, Dancehall and Hip-hop producer and keyboardist based in Melbourne, Australia. He first gained international recognition with the release of his third self-produced album Melbourne Meets Kingston, released by Elefant Traks in 2007. This 21 track album was recorded in Jamaica and Australia between 2004 and 2007, and is the first ever album length collaboration between Australian and Jamaican musicians. It features performances from Jamaican singers and deejays such as Anthony B, Determine and Big Youth. It was followed in 2011 with the international release of his fourth studio album "Warn The Nation", recorded in the UK, Jamaica, Australia and Africa. It features internationally renowned artists such as Capleton, Sizzla, Horace Andy (Massive Attack), Alton Ellis (in one of his last recordings), Burro Banton and more. The album received widespread critical acclaim, including Triple J describing it as “Australia’s definitive reggae album”. He is also the first Australian producer to release his own riddim series in Jamaica, the successful 'Fire Dragon' riddim released in 2009 which features artists such as Sizzla, Burro Banton and Vida-Sunshyne. Other releases include two solo albums, Invasion Day and Bass & Roots, as well as Born A King, a full-length album with Jamaican singer Sizzla (released by US label Muti Music in May, 2014) which is being hailed as one of the strongest of Sizzla's career.

Pete Rock
Peter Phillips (born June 21, 1970), better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ and rapper. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth. After the duo went their separate ways, Rock continued with a solo career that has garnered him worldwide respect, though little in the way of mainstream success. Along with groups such as Stetsasonic, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots, Rock played a major role in the merging of elements from jazz into hip hop music (also known as jazz rap). He is widely recognized as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, and is often mentioned alongside DJ Premier, RZA and J Dilla as one of the mainstays of 1990s East Coast hip hop production. Pete Rock is also the older brother and younger cousin, respectively, of rappers Grap Luva and the late Heavy D.
Biography
Early life
Pete Rock was born in The Bronx, New York, the sixth of seven children born to Jamaican immigrant parents. His family moved to Mount Vernon, New York when he was seven years old. During high school, he met his future recording partner CL Smooth. According to Rock, his father was also a part-time DJ who had an impressive record collection. Rock would often accompany his father to a cricket club called Wembley in The Bronx and watch as he spun records for the guests. His first job was as a paperboy, in his neighborhood.

'Fisherman', the opening track to simply one of the greatest albums of all time - The Congo's 'Heart Of The Congos', recorded at Black Ark Studios in 1976 and mixed and produced by the one and only Lee 'Scratch' Perry.
Thirty-five years later - on Friday 25th November, 2011 - these legendary singers of Jamaican roots reggae joined with Australian producer Mista Savona and his seven piece band to gave a rare and intimate performance at Northside Records, 236 Gertrude Street, Melbourne. This was part of their only Australian tour so far - put together by the Australasian World Music Expo (AWME). Footage by Irie2012.
Note the use of phasers, space echos, delays and that watery liquid mix so synonymous with Lee Perry's sound at The Black Ark. The musicians are:

'Picture this - Kingston Meets Havana!' Although the two islands of Jamaica and Cuba are only miles apart, there has never been a recording project that truly fuses the music of the two islands together - until now.
HAVANA MEETS KINGSTON is a world first album due for release in mid 2017. The project began in 2015 when Australian producer Mista Savona teamed up with Sly & Robbie, Bongo Herman, 'Bopee' Anderson and other legendary Jamaican musicians and personally flew them to Havana to work with members of the Buena Vista Social Club, Los Van Van, Havana Cultura & more. Alongside these highly experienced musicians Savona also scouted for young & up-and-coming artists from both countries, and it's this fusion of age, experience, culture and musical styles that makes this project so exceptional.
The joy in the studio and the sheer skill of the musicians involved has resulted in something truly unique and extraordinary. Recorded at the famous Egrem Studios in Havana, the project is called HAVANA MEETS KINGSTON and will be released in two parts - album #1 in 2017, with album #2 and a feature documentary following in 2018. Our first introductory video has already gone viral!

The first single to be unleashed from this amazing project is ‘Carnival', featuring Jamaican born vocalist Randy Valentine and Cuban singer Solis. It is a triumphant anthem and a song that speaks of the transformative power of music & dance. With its hypnotic rolling basslines, deep roots reggae feel and strong Afro-Cuban influence 'Carnival' is a song that may well open a new chapter in the history of Caribbean music. Sung in both English and Spanish, it switches effortlessly between the sounds and languages of the two islands and yet somehow feels completely natural and catchy - despite the very different rhythms and traditions of Cuban and Jamaican music.
‘Carnival’ is bursting with energy and originality and offers a great insight into the full length album – in which the magic of cross cultural collaboration can be clearly heard, felt & seen.

Jake Savona, aka Mista Savona, is arguably Australia's leading exponent of roots reggae and dancehall music. Jake Savona, aka Mista Savona, is arguably Australia's leading exponent of roots reggae and dancehall music. Mista Savona's DJ set from Rainbow Serpent Festival 2015 - one of our favourite festivals occuring over the Australian summer. This DJ set is a mix of dancehall, uptempo reggae and bass electronic tunes with quite a few original productions thrown in, including some as-yet-unreleased cuts on the Kalonji Riddim featuring Burro Banton and Junie Platinum (check out www.bornaking.com). Other artists featured include Stylo G, Liquid Stranger, Skarramucci, Randy Valentine, Sizzla, Turbulence, Tarrus Riley, Benny Page, Chase & Status, Cutty Ranks, Busy Signal & many more.
This is a high energy set, and the dancefloor at Rainbow Serpent was absolutely amazing to witness. Massive shout out to our friend and MC Di Apprentice, who absolutely tore up the stage during this show - but unfortunately his microphone line was not recorded from the front of house and so can't be heard here. Also a shout out to Jesse I and the Chant Down crew who played a solid roots set just before this, and Stickybuds (Canada) who played a wicked dancehall & breaks set straight after. Finally, a special thanks to Andrew Schudmak & the crew at Rainbow Serpent for making it happen! Awesome as always.

After a week of hard-out trance & techno at Boom Festival in Portugal, it was becoming clear that many people were desperately in need of some proper reggae & beach vibes! The Funky Beach stage is awesome - beach action right by the lake, hidden from main stage view & with its own cocktail bar and icecream shack right by the water. People dancing, sunbaking, laughing, drinking, splashing in the water - beautiful vibes at Boom.
It's a set of mostly modern reggae, starting very chilled and building up slowly but steadily. There's some of my own riddims & exclusive mixes & dubs, alongside fresh cuts from Kabaka, Chronixx, Jesse Royal, Randy Valentine, Beenie Man, Burro Banton, Sizzla & plenty more. I also had to include a few classic riddims in there (Sun Is Shining & The Drop Leaf for example). Pure goodness & positive vibes here - turn it up, lay back in the sun & enjoy.

Mista Savona DJ Set @ Boom Festival, Portugal 2014 (Funky Beach Stage) Sunday 10/7/2014 12:00 - 13:15 After a week of hard-out trance & techno at Boom Festival in Portugal, it was becoming clear that many people were desperately in need of some proper reggae & beach vibes! The Funky Beach stage is awesome - beach action right by the lake, hidden from main stage view & with its own cocktail bar and icecream shack right by the water. People dancing, sunbaking, laughing, drinking, splashing in the water - beautiful vibes at Boom. It's a set of mostly modern reggae, starting very chilled and building up slowly but steadily. After a week of hard-out trance & techno at Boom Festival in Portugal, it was becoming clear that many people were desperately in need of some proper reggae & beach vibes! The Funky Beach stage is awesome - beach action right by the lake, hidden from main stage view & with its own cocktail bar and icecream shack right by the water. People dancing, sunbaking, laughing, drinking, splashing in the water - beautiful vibes at Boom.
It's a set of mostly modern reggae, starting very chilled and building up slowly but steadily. There's some of my own riddims & exclusive mixes & dubs, alongside fresh cuts from Kabaka, Chronixx, Jesse Royal, Randy Valentine, Beenie Man, Burro Banton, Sizzla & plenty more. I also had to include a few classic riddims in there (Sun Is Shining & The Drop Leaf for example). Pure goodness & positive vibes here - turn it up, lay back in the sun & enjoy.

Finally, a special thanks to Andrew Schudmak & the crew at Rainbow Serpent for making it happen! Awesome as always.

The idea was born thanks to Mista Savona Australian globetrotter producer who is travelling the world looking for greatest sounds and talents.
In 2015 he decided to bring all together the bests from Kingston and Havana. So, Sly & Robbie, Bongo Herman, ‘Bopee’ Anderson, Ernest Ranglin, Rolando Luna and Barbarito Torres from BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB, Los Van Van, Havana Cultura and many more met together.

The official music video for No Surrender was filmed on iconic Orange St in downtown Kingston, Jamaica. Orange St was once buzzing with Jamaica’s influential record shops and recording studios, such as Prince Buster’s infamous Record Shack, driving an outpouring of reggae, ska and rocksteady from the island.
Produced by Warrior Films and directed by Dameon Gayle, the video brings to life tough ragga vocals from reggae legends Sizzla, Capleton and Fantan Mojah, singing about life on the streets of Kingston over producer Monkey Marc’s classic heavy hip hop beat and driving bass lines.
Starting with Capleton chanting down Babylon, Fantan Mojah welcomes the listener to ‘the streets of the tough life’, declaring ‘To survive in the streets, them ask how we do it? We tell them, No surrender, no retreat!” Sizzla voices a war-cry for the poor and oppressed in Jamaica, as he calls on both the young and old to stand up and 'make your life better’, encouraging his Jamaican community to stay positive, work hard and find a way out of poverty and sufferation.

'I'm Living (Acoustic)' is the stripped back version of the stunning first single from the forthcoming Sizzla album 'Born A King' (produced by Mista Savona). It features the beautiful guitar-work of Nathan Slater & Tom Martin (Melbourne) combined with the Nyabinghi drumming of famed Studio One percussionist Bongo Herman (Kingston). With its soulful and uplifting lyrics, Sizzla delivers a bonafide roots reggae anthem that reflects goodwill towards all humankind, as well as being a passionate call for social justice globally.

Jake Savona, aka Mista Savona, is arguably Australia's leading exponent of roots reggae and dancehall music.
