Synopsis - Chandrashekhar (Shammi Kapoor), or Shekhar as he is called now, belongs to an aristocratic family, who believe laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class, and as a result laughter is not encouraged in the household, run by Shekhar's domineering mother (Lalita Pawar). In this household the only one who dares to laugh and enjoy life is Shekhar's sister Mala (Shashikala), who also dares to love Jeevan (Anoop Kumar). Things change when their mother finds out about Mala's indiscretions, and asks Shekhar to take her away from their home, to distant and scenic Kashmir, for a while. She instructs Shekhar to get married to a girl from a princely family. When Shekhar and Mala go to Kashmir, they meet with beautiful Rajkumari (Saira Banu). And after being stranded with her for a few nights during a snowstorm, he realizes what he has been missing, and becomes a care-free man in love. This change is welcomed by Mala, but not by their mother. To make matters worse, Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family, and Shekhar knows that his mother will never approve of his marrying her.

Aghajani Kashmeri
Syed Wajid Hussain Rizavi (Urdu: سيد واجد حسین رضوی, Hindi: सैय्यद वाजिद हुसैन रिज़वी, (16 October 1908 – 27 March 1998), better known by his Bollywood film name, Aghajani Kashmeri (Urdu: آغاجانی کشمیری, Hindi: आग़ाजानी कश्मीरी) or Kashmiri (Urdu: کشمیری, Hindi: कश्मीरी), also Agha Jani and Aga Jani, was an Indian screenwriter, former actor and Urdu poet.
Early life and acting career
Kashmeri was born on 16 October 1908, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. He ran away from home in his late teens to star in an early Bollywood film, Shan e Subha (variously listed as Shan e Subhan and Shane Subhan), which was being shot in Rangoon. In part, he was inspired by his first cousin, Nawab Kashmiri, also of Lucknow, the best-known character actor in early Indian cinema, with hits such as Yahudi ki Ladki (Daughter of the Jew), in which Nawab played an elderly Jew. Subsequently, Aghajani returned to Calcutta, did bit roles and a few lead roles, two of them opposite Begum Akhtar. Two of the movies he acted in were Miss Manorama and Anokhi Ada, both in the 1930s.

Shammi Kapoor
Shammi Kapoor (born Shamsher Raj Kapoor; 21 October 1931 – 14 August 2011) was an Indian film actor and director. He was a prominent lead actor in Hindi cinema from the late 1950s until the early 1970s and also make a debut in Tamil cinema via 1992 blockbuster crime drama Amaran. He received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for his performance in Brahmachari and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhaata in 1982.
Shammi Kapoor is hailed as one of the most entertaining lead actors that Hindi cinema has ever produced. He was one of the leading stars of Hindi cinema during the late 1950s, the 1960s and early '70s. He made his Hindi Film debut in 1953 with the film Jeevan Jyoti, and went on to deliver hits like Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Singapore, Junglee, College Girl, Professor, China Town, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Kashmir Ki Kali, Janwar, Teesri Manzil, An Evening in Paris, Bramhachari, Andaz and Sachaai.
Early life
He was given the name Shamsher Raj Kapoor at his birth in Bombay (now Mumbai) to film and theatre actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsharni Kapoor (née Mehra). Shammi was the second of the three sons born to Prithviraj (the other two being Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor, both successful Hindi Film actors).

Saira Banu
Saira Banu (born 23 August 1944), also known as Saira Bano, is an Indian Bollywood actress and the wife of the film actor Dilip Kumar. She acted in many Bollywood films between 1961 and 1980.
Early life
Saira Banu was born in India to actress Naseem Banu and film producer Mian Ehsan-ul-Haq, who produced the film Phool in Mumbai and film Wadah in Pakistan. Her grandmother was the courtesan Chamiyan Bai, also known as Shamshad Begum of Delhi (not to be confused with the famous playback singer of yesteryear Shamshad Begum who was from Amritsar, Punjab). Saira spent a significant part of her childhood in London, and went to finishing school. Her grandmother was from Hasanpur Uttar Pradesh.
Career
Saira Banu was 16 years old in 1960, the year she made her debut to Hindi films. She said in a programme, that she had basic talent and little dancing experience. Her peers all were classically trained, which was why she wasn't put in the top league. Saira started taking Kathak and Bharata Natyam lessons with success and trained herself professionally. Soon she became a dancer and her films flaunted more of her dance. Banu made her acting debut at 17 years opposite Shammi Kapoor in the 1961 film Junglee for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. The famous song from this movie "Yaahoo!! Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe" sung by Mohammed Rafi was a big success. 'Junglee' was written by Aghajani Kashmeri (aka Kashmiri and Agha Jani), who also coached her in Urdu dialogue delivery, given his background in Urdu literature and poetry from Lucknow. 'Junglee' also instantly made her a successful actress throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. But it is said that the turning point of her career was the comedy and love story Padosan, which brought her to be one of the successful actresses.

Vidya Sinha
Vidya Sinha (born 15 November 1947, Mumbai) is an Indian actress who has acted in Bollywood films, most known for Rajnigandha (1974) and Chhoti Si Baat (1975).
Early life
Sinha was born in Mumbai to Rana Pratap Singh, an Indian film producer, son-in-law of film director Mohan Sinha a.k.a. Sd. Maan Singh, resident of village Jodhawali, Punjab, Undivided India.
Film career
She began modelling and acting at the age of 18. She was Miss Bombay and modelled for several brands which led to her discovery by Basu Chatterjee. Her first movie, however, came after marriage - her debut was in Raja Kaka (1974) opposite Kiran Kumar. However, fame came to her through a low-budget, alternative cinema break-away hit Rajnigandha (1974), directed by her mentor Basu Chatterjee. The movie, although having none of the trappings of a typical Bollywood blockbuster, was a major box office success. This was followed by many more small-budget films like Choti Si Baat (1975), and later by more mainstream, bigger budget Bollywood productions like Pati Patni Aur Woh (1977). She is known for her pleasant roles in various movies she acted during her active career life. She did 30 movie roles over a period of 12 years.

Junglee | जंगली is a 1961 Indian movie produced and directed by Subodh Mukherjee. The music is by Shankar Jaikishan and the lyrics by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The film stars Shammi Kapoor, Lalita Pawar, Shashikala, Anoop Kumar and Asit Sen. Saira Banu, in her debut film, earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. In this household the only one who dares to laugh and enjoy life is Shekhar's sister Mala (Shashikala), who also dares to love Jeevan (Anoop Kumar). Things change when their mother finds out about Mala's indiscretions, and asks Shekhar to take her away from their home, to distant and scenic Kashmir, for a while. She instructs Shekhar to get married to a girl from a princely family. When Shekhar and Mala go to Kashmir, they meet with beautiful Rajkumari (Saira Banu). And after being stranded with her for a few nights during a snowstorm, he realizes what he has been missing, and becomes a care-free man in love. This change is welcomed by Mala, but not by their mother. To make matters worse, Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family, and Shekhar knows that his mother will never approve of his marrying her. Synopsis - Chandrashekhar (Shammi Kapoor), or Shekhar as he is called now, belongs to an aristocratic family, who believe laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class, and as a result laughter is not encouraged in the household, run by Shekhar's domineering mother (Lalita Pawar). In this household the only one who dares to laugh and enjoy life is Shekhar's sister Mala (Shashikala), who also dares to love Jeevan (Anoop Kumar). Things change when their mother finds out about Mala's indiscretions, and asks Shekhar to take her away from their home, to distant and scenic Kashmir, for a while. She instructs Shekhar to get married to a girl from a princely family. When Shekhar and Mala go to Kashmir, they meet with beautiful Rajkumari (Saira Banu). And after being stranded with her for a few nights during a snowstorm, he realizes what he has been missing, and becomes a care-free man in love. This change is welcomed by Mala, but not by their mother. To make matters worse, Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family, and Shekhar knows that his mother will never approve of his marrying her.

Giving up each other forever, Yusuf and Najma part.

Kammo (Nargis) lives a very wealthy lifestyle with her widowed multi-millionaire dad, Girhdarilal (Gope), who would like her to get married to someone who is not after their wealth. To his dismay, she chooses to marry a pilot named Sumankumar (Pran), who is known to womanize and for his greed. When he disapproves, she runs away. He advertises for her safe return and offers to pay Rs.1.25 lakh to the finder.
Four days later, Kammo returns and she is not the same anymore; she is more humble, sober, and respectful. Fully appreciative of this, Girdharilal agrees to her marriage to Sumankumar. Synopsis - Gayetridevi sends her son, Ashok to get her grandson from Japan. Gayetridevi had an elder son, who married a girl of Japanese origin without her blessings. She wants Ashok to get married to Sarita, but Ashok does not show any interest in Sarita. In Japan, Ashok meets with Asha and both fall in love. Asha's uncle wants Asha to marry Pran, but Asha does not like Pran and runs away with Ashok. Pran runs down Ashok with his car, and Ashok is hospitalized and may lose his eye-sight. Gayetridevi will soon find out which of the two girls - Asha - who she does not approve of - or Sarita, will take of her blind son.

Suraiya made her debut as a child artist in Usne Kya Socha (1937). She got a prominent role as a child artist with the help of her uncle Zahoor, who was then a popular villain actor. During a holiday from school in 1941, she accompanied him to Mohan Studios to see the shooting of the film Taj Mahal which was being directed by Nanubhai Vakil. Suraiya made her debut as a child artist in Usne Kya Socha (1937). She got a prominent role as a child artist with the help of her uncle Zahoor, who was then a popular villain actor. During a holiday from school in 1941, she accompanied him to Mohan Studios to see the shooting of the film Taj Mahal which was being directed by Nanubhai Vakil. Vakil noticed Suraiya and not having in his mind at that time any particular young girl to play the role of young Mumtaz Mahal in Taj mahal, selected Suraiya to play that role.
Music director Naushad once heard Suraiya's voice on All India Radio while she sang for a children's program, and chose her to sing as a 13 year old for Mehtaab in Kardar's film Sharda (1942).
As an adult, Suraiya initially played secondary roles in K. Asif's Phool (1944), Mehboob Khan's Anmol Ghadi(1946) which was written by Aghajani Kashmiri, and Dard (1947). She got a break as a heroine for the film Tadbir (1945) on the recommendation of K. L. Saigall, who liked her voice during a rehearsal. She went on to costar with Saigal in Omar Khayyam (1946) and Parwana (1947).Although by then she had a couple of hit songs including a duet with Surendra in 1857(1946) ,but the four solo songs which she sang in Parwana made her a genuine singer star. She considered Composer of these songs, Khwaja Khurshid Anwar as her favorite Music Director for whom she sang just thirteen songs during 1943 to 1949. More opportunities arose for Suraiya after reigning actresses Noor Jehan and Khursheed Bano migrated to the newly created Pakistan following the 1947 partition of British India.
As an actress, Suraiya had an edge over her contemporaries Kamini Kaushal and Nargis because she could sing her own songs. After three hits Pyar Ki Jeet (1948), Badi Bahen, and Dill1949), she became the highest paid female star. But her reign at the top was brief; her films started flopping in the 1950s. She made a comeback in Waaris and Mirza Ghalib (1954). Mirza Ghalib (1954) ran into trouble with Censor Board because Suraiya's body parts and figure got exposed in Medieval dresses. Somehow Nehru also heard about this trouble, and he saw a special show of Mirza Ghalib along with Suraiya, Sohrab Modi, and Mohammed Rafi. Nehru praised Suraiya for her performance in Mirza Ghalib, and asked the Censor Board to clear the film from Censors.
Her future movies weren't very successful however. She reduced her work slowly and finally bid farewell to the film industry with Rustom Sohrab (1963) which was her last film. She quit films at a time when She could have made millions with her acting and singing. She refused to turn to playback singing like her contemporary Noor Jehan did in Pakistan, choosing to retire gracefully at the top, becoming quite reclusive in the coming decades. This is in strange contrast to someone for whom crowds used to wait to get a glimpse around 1950 outside her house. He ran away from home to work small jobs in the studios of Bombay. He started as an assistant in the silent era and an extra in the studios of the Imperial Film Company of Ardeshir Irani, before directing his first film, Judgement of Allah (1935), when he started directing films for the Sagar Film Company. Directorial features like Aurat followed, with the studios Sagar Movietone and National Studios. In 1945, Khan set up his own production house, Mehboob Productions.
Throughout his career, Khan produced and directed many blockbuster films, the most notable being the romantic drama Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1951), the dramatic Amar (1954) and the social epic Mother India (1957), the latter of which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1957 and was a remake of his own 1940 film Aurat. He has directed 21 other films dating from the late 1930s. His earlier works were in Urdu, but his later material, including Mother India, were in Hindi although many say he utilized Hindustani, a friendlier and softer spoken version of Hindi and Urdu. Several of his films, especially his earlier films Humayun, the story of a Mughal emperor who ruled India, Anmol Ghadi and Taqdeer, in which he introduced Nargis, who would later marry Sunil Dutt, were written by Aghajani Kashmeri also Kashmiri and Agha Jani. Kashmeri was responsible for picking and training Nargis in Hindustani and Urdu dialogue delivery. His last film as a director was the 1962 film Son of India. He died in 1964 at the age of 57, and was buried at Badakabarastan in Marine Lines, Mumbai. His death occurred the next day after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India.

If there is one day that lends itself to multiculturalism, it is Remembrance Day -- and yet ceremonies across the country are hardly a mirror of the new Canada -- why do I say this? -- well, Remembrance Day begins with the First World War -- which saw more than 150,000 troops from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- who returned with 13,000 medals, including 12 Victoria crosses -- Include the Middle East and Africa, and you are looking at more than half a million South Asian soldiers -- There were the Sikhs, proud and noticeable with their turbans -- the Gurkhas from Nepal, with their curved daggers known as the Kukri -- An American war veteran remembers troops being held back by German machine gunners -- he then remembers a group of Gurkhas pulling out their Kukris and charging the Germans -- with a war cry that he writes sounded like a four letter bad word -- at the end of it all, the Germans were lying decapitated and of the eight or ten Gurkhas only two had survived -- our new Canada I am sure is full of wartime memories with veterans or their families -- the outsiders, waiting to be invited in to tell their stories, some dramatic like a Subedar I met 35 years ago who fought in North Africa against the legendary General Rommel and some not so dramatic -- such as that of my late father, a well-known Bollywood scriptwriter, given an army rank and who would broadcast Hindustani language propaganda radio commentaries late at night on the BBC -- But wait, there is yet another reason for us to remember: to make the Biblical injunction come true: turn our swords into ploughshares -- think about it I'm Zuhair Kashmeri.
