Avant-garde (French pronunciation: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd]); from French, "advance guard" or "vanguard") is a French term used in English as a noun or adjective to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics.
Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm. The notion of the existence of the avant-garde is considered by some to be a hallmark of modernism, as distinct from postmodernism. Many artists have aligned themselves with the avant-garde movement and still continue to do so, tracing a history from Dada through the Situationists to postmodern artists such as the Language poets around 1981.
The term was originally used to describe the foremost part of an army advancing into battle (also called the vanguard or literally the advance guard) and now applied to any group, particularly of artists, that considers itself innovative and ahead of the majority.

Myron Avant (born April 26, 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio), better known as Avant is an American R&B singer-songwriter. He is best known for hits such as "Separated" (the remix to which features Kelly Rowland), "My First Love," which one version features KeKe Wyatt, and "Read Your Mind" (remix featuring Snoop Dogg on the extended promo vinyl and released September 30, 2003). He was featured in the remix to the Lloyd Banks song "Karma" from the 2004 album The Hunger for More, and has had a cameo appearance in the 2004 feature film BarberShop 2: Back in Business.
His self-titled fifth album, Avant, was released on December 9, 2008. Avant is now signed to Verve Forecast and released his sixth studio album The Letter (formerly titled "Wake Up") on December 21, 2010, featuring production from the likes of The Pentagon; Mike City; Marshall Leathers; and Kajun. Avant cites R.Kelly as his biggest influence and inspiration.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. Often referred to as the King of Pop, or by his initials MJ, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.
In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced numerous hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop and rock artists.

Avant*garde
Avant*garde is a completely new documentary series about international independent, arthouse, experimental and trash cinema. In self-contained episodes of about 15 minutes in length, author and director Fabian Huebner presents some extraordinary film makers and allows both emotional and informative insights into the works of these directors. And true to the motto "movies for advanced viewers", Avant*garde is celebrating popcultural cineastic clichés in a tongue-in-cheek style, but always with a highly stylistic approach that is following the works of the respective director.

There is a long history of avant garde musicians and thinkers promoting the concept of noise and non-instrumental sounds as MUSIC, much to the horror of their audience. But over the past century, changes in technology and music genres have primed listeners, allowing mainstream audiences to enjoy the beautiful noise of Skrillex, Bassnectar & the whole Dubstep movement.

In Battle On The Dancefloor strijden de beste danscrews van Nederland tegen elkaar. Er zijn zes kwalificatie-afleveringen, twee halve finales en één grote finale. In elke kwalificatie-aflevering krijgt de dance crew te maken met een zogeheten challenge. Zo wordt er tijdens de challenge-rondes gedanst met oxboards en grote doeken, maar ook met bureaustoelen en lightsabers (Star Wars zwaarden). Deze extra belemmeringen leveren spectaculaire choreografieën op!
De winnende crew maakt onderdeel uit van de komende editie van ‘Let’s Dance’ op 19 november 2016. Dat betekent een eigen performance in een uitverkocht Ziggodome.
