August 1, 2015 updated Legal Shield Business Plan for Associate members. This is edited down to 22 minutes from a 40 minute video. Taken out were testimonies and review of all the LS services. I'm Thomas Harmer, CPA (retired), landlord/rental investor and I've been a 'member' LS since 1998! I read a book on managing rental properties and it recommended 'Pre-Paid Legal' which later became Legal Shield (LS). I've used LS for all kinds of situations and consider myself a 'sophisticated user' of LS! They've 'saved my bacon' with numerous tenants numerous times every year! They did a 1031 Exchange for me for only a total $750!! They've gone to bat for me on traffic tickets and got me 'off'! They'll do a will and/or revocable living trust for any new member free! (to a point). Vendor disputes? Big Time. You get as many 'cases' as you want no extra charge. They will review up to a 15 page contract/document and write a letter on your behalf: No extra charge! (This may be limited to 10 cases per year.) I've referred LS to so many people over the years last summer (2014) I became an 'Associate' so I could receive what I considered referral fees. It's much bigger than that. This is a passive income retirement strategy! As an associate I have my own LS website with all promotional and training videos built in. I run into somebody needing an attorney I send them the link to my site. They sign up, boom! Commission paid next day! (depending on type of payment. ie check needs 5 days to clear but debit/credit next day.) This video assumes you have watched the video in my LS website explaining all the legal services available under the various 'plans' and you are interested in making a business of it by becoming an associate. If you haven't watched that video yet, please do before watching this. Not mentioned in this video is that once a level of commission is earned (associate, Sr. Associate, Director, etc) it can't be lost due to a drop in volume of business. Additionally via direct deposit of pay you will receive commissions direct deposited the very next day (depending on the type of payment made by the new member). This video uses a $39.90 package sale (Married with LS and Identity Shield: covers Husband & wife and all dependents. The least expensive commissionable plan is Identity Shield for a single person: around $10/mo) which generates a $100 commission the next day to the person who sells the member and $113 to his/her upline. This represents an advance on future revenue from the new member. The monthly payment goes 1/3 to the associate and up line, 1/3 to LS and 1/3 to the law firm of the state the member is in. It takes 16 months of payments from a new member for LS to break even on the commissions paid the day after a new member signs up. If the new member quits then refunds are taken from all the LS associates paid commissions. Commissions referred to in this presentation are based on an 80% "persistence" of the members registered by an associate. Persistence is 100% if a new member stays with LS for 16 months. (Should be verified. Based on a conversation with a director.) If an associate's persistence gets below 70% there is a reduction in the commissions and overrides paid to the associate. Therefore, it is wise of an associate to sell the plan as a long term commitment of the new member and to help the new member utilize the plan. Since an associate gets override commissions on his downline it benefits the associate to assist new recruits with being successful in doing business. A standard practice is for an associate who brings in a new member to get the commission on the sale but then add the new member UNDER one of his/her recent downline associates. This gives the new associate the $20 override and you still get your $20 over ride! (Based on a $39.90 pkg .. but please verify specifics.) Bottom line this is an amazing commission structure! Paying commission advances on future revenue! (Associate can elect monthly payments rather than next day and then there will be no refund required when a new member resigns.)
