Dalbergia sissoo, known commonly as North Indian Rosewood, is an evergreen rosewood tree, also known as sheesham, sisu, tahli, Tali and also Irugudujava. It is native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southern Iran. In Persian, it is called Jag. It is the state tree of Punjab state (India) and the provincial tree of Punjab province (Pakistan). Its Afghanistan name is shewa. Indian common names are biradi, and sisau. It is primarily found growing along river banks below 900 metres (3,000 ft) elevation, but can range naturally up to 1,300 m (4,300 ft). The temperature in its native range averages 10–40 °C (50–104 °F), but varies from just below freezing to nearly 50 °C (122 °F). It can withstand average annual rainfall up to 2,000 millimetres (79 in) and droughts of 3–4 months. Soils range from pure sand and gravel to rich alluvium of river banks; shisham can grow in slightly saline soils. Seedlings are intolerant of shade.
Shisham is best known economic timber species of the rosewood genus sold internationally, but it is also used as fuel wood and for shade and shelter. With its tolerance of light frosts and long dry seasons, this species deserves greater consideration for tree farming, agro forestry and deciduous reforestation. After teak, it is the most important cultivated timber tree of Bihar, which is the largest producer of shisham timber in India. In Bihar, the tree is planted on roadsides, along canals and as a shade tree for tea plantations. It is also commonly planted in southern Indian cities like Bangalore as a street tree.
Dalbergia nigra, commonly known as the Bahia rosewood, jacarandá da Bahia, Brazilian rosewood, Rio rosewood, jacarandá de Brasil, pianowood, caviuna, or obuina, is a species of legume in the Fabaceae family.
Dalbergia nigra produces a very hard and heavy wood, characteristically varied in color from brick red through various shades of brown (medium to nearly black). Pieces that feature veins of black coloration called spider webbing or landscape grain are especially prized. Brazilian rosewood has a distinctive floral fragrance—reminiscent of roses with a distinctive sweetness—and strongest in old growth wood. Another distinguishing feature is its outstanding resonance. An evenly cut piece that is tapped emits a bright metallic ring that sustains. This property, combined with its beauty, has made Brazilian rosewood a favorite of musical instrument makers for centuries.
Brazilian rosewood is highly resistant to insect attacks.
There are many species in the Dalbergia genus that can be confused with Dalbergia nigra, but the latter can be recognised by its colour and resin. It may also be confused with Machaerium, which has a more compact parenchyma and lack large pores.
East India is a region of India consisting of the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Orissa.

Rosewood refers to any of a number of richly hued timbers, often brownish with darker veining but found in many different hues.
All genuine rosewoods belong to the genus Dalbergia. The pre-eminent rosewood appreciated in the Western world is the wood of Dalbergia nigra which is now a CITES-listed endangered species. It is best known as Brazilian Rosewood, but also as Bahia rosewood. This wood has a strong sweet smell, which persists over many years, explaining the name rosewood.
Another classic rosewood comes from Dalbergia latifolia known as (East) Indian rosewood or sonokeling (Indonesia). It is native to India and is also grown in plantations elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
Madagascar rosewood (Dalbergia maritima), known as bois de rose, is highly prized for its red color but is overexploited in the wild. Despite a 2010 moratorium on trade, illegal logging continues on a large scale.
Throughout S.E. Asia Dalbergia oliveri is harvested for use in woodworking. It has a very fragrant and dense grain near the core, however the outer sapwood is soft and porous. Dalbergia cultrata that has variegated burgundy to light brown color, a blackwood timber is sold as Burmese Rosewood. Products built with rosewood based engineered woods are sold as Malaysian Rosewood or as Dalbergia oliveri.

I received a very old piece of Indian Rosewood that came from a Temple in India believed to be 300 years old or more This was a gift form my son In Law's family that I received when I was in Idaho for my Daughter's wedding and the plan is to send it to her so it can be back with the family. This wood is so hard that word hard is an understatement.

After being very sick over the past week or so, I am back in the shop. Today I finish up making a custom truss rod cover for the Epiphone Dot Studio. I inlay some cool looking bronze and lime green swirl plastic and outline it with .22ga sterling silver flat wire. Then I inlay some addition silver flat wire. Considering I have never worked with sterling silver flat wire inlay, I couldn't be happier with the results. The sterling silver shimmers against the indian rosewood. The maple layer on the bottom really sets it off. I hand beveled the edges, then finish sanded, burnished, and buffed the cover with 0000 steel wool. Looks great! Almost done with the Dot. Next video will be doing a final setup and giving this Hot Rod a test ride. Thanks so much for watching this series. It's sincerely...

Reloved Guitars is all about taking unloved and underestimated budget guitars and setting them up to play brilliantly. Here are some facts: 100% of the guitars I've worked on (at any price point) have more than 50% uneven frets. 95% of the 65 guitars I've set up so far were completely UN set up and therefore hard to play. 100% of the guitars I've set up played better AFTER my set up than they did new. These videos are not for general entertainment purposes - they're aimed at potential buyers of Reloved Guitars to see the work done on their guitar or for people who like to watch how things are done....slowly :-) Please feel free to share your opinions even if they are different from mine but if you're looking for an argument or can only feel good about yourself by putting other people d...
"I just wanted to say “thank you” for the job performed on the guitar! It arrived here on Tuesday in perfect condition. I am more than happy with the result! The Strat looks and plays wonderful! The sound over the “Fender Blues Junior” is so sweet! Great choice of pickups, Sir! The electrics are awesome, I don´t hear any unwanted noise or encounter any problems when switching pickup positions (which is an experience, that doesn´t happen too often I believe…)" This MASSIVELY LOOOONG video documents the refurbishment / upgrading of Martin's old Encore Strat. This is the Indian-made Encore which came out of the same factory as the Sunn Mustangs of the period. The necks are identical (apart from the logos) and the bodies differ in thickness and pickup routing. The quality of these maple / r...

** Warning: long, unedited video ahead. Not intended for entertainment purposes. Please ensure you know the location of your nearest emergency exit ** This video shows me setting up a vintage Sunn Mustang stratocaster made in India under license by Fender Musical Instrument Corporation. I’m a big fan of these guitars, having now bought and set up 8 over the last year or so (and kept one for myself). I think these are much under-estimated and a small but growing core of die-hard fans agrees with me. Don't mistake the Indian-made Sunn Mustang with the later Chinese-made one; they are two very different guitars. I've not had or set up a Chinese-made one since I took everyone elses' advice on the matter and avoided them. Like all the Indian-made Sunn Mustangs, this guitar has a lovely vint...
