Pollination is a process in which pollen is transferred to the female reproductive organs of seed plants, thereby enabling fertilization and reproduction through growth of the pollen tube and eventual release of sperm. Both gymnosperms and angiosperms undergo pollination, although the mechanism for angiosperms is much faster and more complex.
In spite of a common perception that pollen grains are gametes, like the sperm cells of animals, this is incorrect; pollination is an event in the alternation of generations. Each pollen grain is a male haploid gametophyte, adapted to being transported to the female gametophyte, where it can effect fertilization by producing the male gamete (or gametes), in the process of double fertilization).
A successful angiosperm pollen grain (gametophyte) containing the male gametes is transported to the stigma, where it germinates and its pollen tube grows down the style to the ovary. Its two gametes travel down the tube to where the gametophyte(s) containing the female gametes are held within the carpel. One nucleus fuses with the polar bodies to produce the endosperm tissues, and the other with the ovule to produce the embryo Hence the term: "double fertilization".
Oprah Gail Winfrey, born January 29, 1954, is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. She is best known for her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was the highest-rated program of its kind in history and was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011. Dubbed the "Queen of All Media", she has been ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and is now North America's first and only multi-billionaire Black. Several assessments regard her as the most influential woman in the world. In 2013, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama and honorary doctorate degrees from Duke and Harvard.
Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She has stated that she was molested during her childhood and early teens and became pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy. Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19. Her emotional ad-lib delivery eventually got her transferred to the daytime-talk-show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place, she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.

This animation is meant to be a basic introduction to pollination and flower anatomy. In the first half, I tried for a realistic style, and in the second half I wanted to push a more illustrative style, similar to what would be seen in a traditional botanical illustration. I suppose I was inspired by the Painting and Drawing Botanicals class I took as an undergraduate. This animation was created in Maya and After Effects and utilizes a lot of nCloth and some particles. This was a very fun project to work on, and now that I have one dynamic plant model, I'd like to push myself to even greater degrees of anatomical detail in the future. This particular plant was modeled after a Sorbonne Lily.

Animal pollination occurs when plants bribe or trick animals into carrying their pollen to other plants of the same species. Here Dr. Mia Park, a pollination ecologist, explains how this this works. This lovely 11-min video was produced through a collaboration between Cornell University's Naturalist Outreach program and Ithaca College's Park Productions. The video was supported by Cornell Cooperative Extension/ NYS 4H and NSF-Division of Undergraduate Biology.

http://www.iguzzini.com/events/light-pollination/ Light Pollination is an interactive digital artwork commissioned by iGuzzini to celebrate the power of light as a vehicle for social innovation and was designed by London-based digital-arts studio UniversalAssemblyUnit. Powered by love of playful light, the artwork features around 20,000 individual points of LED light brought to the surface through fibre optics, and is dotted with interaction points. When light is shone onto these pollination points, the artwork immediately responds with growing bands of light, which expand progressively into wider and faster light bursts. This creates a pollinating effect across the artwork, completely transforming its landscape, in line with the Brompton Design District’s central theme of transformation...
