Ascensore Montegalletto Funicular Railway. " Transformer " Design. Probably the most unique form of Underground Railway transport in the world !
This is a Underground Narrow Gauge Railway that " Transforms " into a Lift/Elevator. Although this railway is called a Funicular railway the attraction is there for anyone that enjoys the experience of riding something a little bit different. Genoa in Italy has a handful of Funiculars that transport passengers to the top of the mountain. They are all different and they are all an interesting ride !
This Underground Railway runs directly into the heart of the mountain for 236 metres, transforms, and then goes vertical 69 metrers up to street level just outside the Castello d'Albertis. The engineering is very interesting and it must have been very brave of the design team to propose such a challenging design. Well Done ! ! !
Certainly a minor tourist attraction for Genoa Tourism, as also, the views are magnificent from the grounds of the castle.

Doppelmayr/Garaventa funiculars can be built in cities, in the country, or in mountain regions. Curves and changes in gradient are mastered by this ropeway system without any problem. The low profile ensures high availability for the funicular in all weather conditions. In addition, the impressive features of these systems include a long service life of around 40 years and moderate maintenance costs.
The vehicles are propelled by a haul rope and usually on the basis of a reversible system. Whereas two parallel tracks are possible for short distances, on longer installations a single track is used with a passing loop in the middle of the line. The possibility of incorporating intermediate stations makes the funicular ideal as a means of public transport. The trains consist of one or more vehicles and are always designed to suit specific needs and wishes, irrespective of whether the customer prefers to run a fully automated system or to operate with attendants. We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870.
The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list).
From the top of the hill the views of the Danube River with the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi) passing over it, not to mention the parliament building the cathedral and grand luxury hotels such as the Four Seasons or the French Luxury Hotel Chain, The Sofitel. This is a fantastic place to view the city of Budapest in both daylight and just as breathtaking with the cities night lights turned on.
And now for a little Technical information:
The Funicular Tram's railway line is 95 meters long and ies at a height of 51 meters. The railway is operated with two Double Decker Tram Cars with a capacity of 24 passengers per car. The two tram trains are named "Margit" and "Gellert".

A funicular, also known as an inclined plane or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope; the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other.
The basic idea of funicular operation is that two cars are always attached to each other by a cable, which runs through a pulley at the top of the slope. Counterbalancing of the two cars, with one going up and one going down, minimizes the energy needed to lift the car going up. Winching is normally done by an electric drive which turns the pulley. Sheave wheels guide the cable to and from the drive mechanism and the slope cars.
A few funiculars have been built using water tanks under the floor of each car which are filled or emptied until just sufficient imbalance is achieved to allow movement. The movement is then controlled by a brakeman.
Funiculars used in mines were sometimes unpowered gravity planes, also known as self-acting inclines or brake inclines. The weight of descending loaded wagons was used to pull the empty mine wagons.

John Anthony Frusciante 
i/fruːˈʃɑːnteɪ/; born March 5, 1970) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, record and film producer. He is best known as the former guitarist of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom he had been for a number of years and recorded five studio albums. Frusciante has an active solo career, having released ten albums under his own name, as well as two with Josh Klinghoffer and Joe Lally as Ataxia. His solo recordings include elements ranging from experimental rock and ambient music to New Wave and electronica. Influenced by guitarists of various genres, Frusciante emphasizes melody and emotion in his guitar playing, and favors vintage guitars and analog recording techniques.
Frusciante joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers at eighteen years old, first appearing on the band's 1989 album, Mother's Milk. The group's follow-up album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), was a breakthrough success. However, he was overwhelmed by the band's new popularity and quit in 1992. He became a recluse and entered a long period of drug addiction, during which he released his first solo recordings: Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt (1994) and then Smile from the Streets You Hold (1997). In 1998, he successfully completed drug rehabilitation and rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers with the album Californication (1999). His album To Record Only Water for Ten Days was made in 2001. We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870. The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list). From the top of the hill the views of the Danube River with the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi) passing over it, not to mention the parliament building the cathedral and grand luxury hotels such as the Four Seasons or the French Luxury Hotel Chain, The Sofitel. This is a fantastic place to view the city of Budapest in both daylight and just as breathtaking with the cities night lights turned on. And now for a little Technical information: The Funicular Tram's railway line is 95 meters long and ies at a height of 51 meters. The railway is operated with two Double Decker Tram Cars with a capacity of 24 passengers per car. The two tram trains are named "Margit" and "Gellert". And here is a definition by wiki of what a Funicular Train is: A funicular, also known as an inclined plane or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope; the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other. Funicular Tram Railroads are quite common around Europe and around the world. Some of European oldest Funicular cable cars can be tried in Austria (Festungsbahn from 1892), Czech Republic (Petřín funicular from 1891). Wiki writes about Budapest, "Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is bisected by the River Danube, and the 19th-century Chain Bridge connects its hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces life from Roman times onwards. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views..." It was opened on 13 July 1900 and was entirely rebuilt in 1935 and again in 1991. The funicular carries passengers from the base of the butte (outlier) of Montmartre to the summit, near the base of the Sacré-Cœur basilica, and back down. We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870.
The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list).
From the top of the hill the views of the Danube River with the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi) passing over it, not to mention the parliament building the cathedral and grand luxury hotels such as the Four Seasons or the French Luxury Hotel Chain, The Sofitel. This is a fantastic place to view the city of Budapest in both daylight and just as breathtaking with the cities night lights turned on.
And now for a little Technical information:
The Funicular Tram's railway line is 95 meters long and ies at a height of 51 meters. The railway is operated with two Double Decker Tram Cars with a capacity of 24 passengers per car. The two tram trains are named "Margit" and "Gellert".
And here is a definition by wiki of what a Funicular Train is:
A funicular, also known as an inclined plane or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope; the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other.
Funicular Tram Railroads are quite common around Europe and around the world. Some of European oldest Funicular cable cars can be tried in Austria (Festungsbahn from 1892), Czech Republic (Petřín funicular from 1891).
Wiki writes about Budapest, "Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is bisected by the River Danube, and the 19th-century Chain Bridge connects its hilly Buda district with flat Pest. Foi inaugarada no ano de 1867, e considerada uma revolução para época uma vez que o trasporte era realizado por muares. Uma nova linha férrea mais moderna foi construída no séc XX quando a funicular parou sua operação. Desde então a linha férrea vem sendo utilizada por aventureiros que saem da vila de Paranapiacaba e descem até a cidade de Cubatão.

Em 1860, os ingleses iniciavam os projetos para construção de uma ferrovia que ligasse o porto de Santos a Jundiaí, no interior paulista. Para isso, usaram o Sistema Funicular que tracionava os trens através de cabos de aço para transpor a Serra do Mar, no Alto da Serra.
Esse sistema constava de cinco patamares com roldanas gigantescas que movimentavam os cabos e levavam os trens para cima e para baixo. O Barão de Mauá, Irineu Evangelista de Souza, foi o primeiro brasileiro, antes dessa época, a negociar com os empreendedores ingleses que tinham interesse no café brasileiro, que antes do trem era transportado no lombo de mulas.
Os ingleses criaram, no Alto da Serra, uma Vila Ferroviária muito bem organizada que veio a se chamar, mais tarde, Paranapiacaba ou, em Tupi, lugar de onde se avista o mar. A Vila foi dividida na Vila Velha, onde ficavam as oficinas e ferramentas; a Vila Nova, mais urbanizada, para acomodação dos engenheiros e ferroviários mais graduados; a Parte Alta ou Morro foi sendo cedida aos operários que se aposentavam e que ali ergueram a Capela do Bom Jesus e o cemitério ao lado dela.
A Ferrovia Inglesa prosperou por 90 anos, tempo de sua concessão sendo, a seguir, estatizada pela Rede Ferroviária Federal que tentou seguir os mesmos parâmetros, mas caiu em decadência porque o Governo Federal passou a dar preferência às estradas e caminhões. Com a falência da rede ferroviaria.

The Montmartre funicular is an automatic funicular railway serving the Montmartre neighbourhood of Paris, in the Eighteenth arrondissement. It is operated by the RATP, the Paris transport authority. It was opened on 13 July 1900 and was entirely rebuilt in 1935 and again in 1991.
The funicular carries passengers from the base of the butte (outlier) of Montmartre to the summit, near the base of the Sacré-Cœur basilica, and back down. It provides an alternative to the multiple stairways of more than 300 steps that lead to the top of the Butte Montmartre. At 108 m (354 ft) long, the funicular climbs and drops the 36 m (118 ft) in under a minute and a half. It carries two million passengers a year.
