Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., a 36 year old car washer from Logan, West Virginia, is on his way to become a huge star after his performance on America's Got Talent stunned the judges and audience. Landau or Landau in der Pfalz (pop. 41,821) is an autonomous (kreisfrei) city surrounded by the Südliche Weinstraße ("Southern Wine Route") district of southern Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is a university town (since 1990), a long-standing cultural centre, and a market and shopping town, surrounded by vineyards and wine-growing villages of the Palatinate wine region. Landau lies east of the Palatinate forest, Europe's largest contiguous forest, direct on the German Wine Route.
Landau was first mentioned as a settlement in 1106. It was in the possession of the counts of Leiningen-Dagsburg-Landeck, whose arms, differenced by an escutcheon of the Imperial eagle, served as the arms of Landau until 1955 [1]. The city was granted a charter in 1274 by Rudolf I of Habsburg, King of Germany, who declared the city an Imperial Free City in 1291; nevertheless the bishop of Speyer, a major landowner in the district, seized the city in 1324. The city did not regain its ancient rights until 1511, through the offices of Maximilian I.

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. (born August 11, 1974) is a jazz singer from Logan County, West Virginia. He received national attention for winning the sixth season of the NBC reality show America's Got Talent.
Before America's Got Talent, Murphy worked as a car washer. He was homeless at age 19.
Murphy was revealed as the winner of the show on September 14, 2011, after a positively received performance of "My Way", a song popularized by Frank Sinatra. He won the $1 million grand prize and will begin a headlining act in Las Vegas on October 28.
Landau has since been signed to Sony Records and Columbia Records, and released his first album That's Life on November 21, 2011. The album debuted at #34 on the Billboard 200 selling 28,000 copies, then fell to #41 the next week on the charts.
On Amazon, That's Life has reached #1 in the Jazz category.

Die AfD-Bundesvorsitzende Frauke Petry kam am Samstag, den 14. Mai in die Stadthalle von Landau an der Isar als Hauptrednerin einer Veranstaltung des Bezirksverbandes Niederbayern. Vor Frau Dr. Petry und dem Bezirksvorsitzenden Stephan Protschka sprach auch die Familienpolitikerin Katrin Ebner-Steiner vom bayerischen Landesvorstand. Die Begrüßung erfolgt durch den Vorsitzenden vom Kreisverband Rottal-Inn/ Dingolfing-Landau, Wolfgang Hansbauer.
Die AfD hat am 1. Mai in Stuttgart beim Bundesparteitag ihr neues Grundsatzprogramm verabschiedet. Auf dieser Basis wird in einigen Monaten das Wahlprogramm für die Bundestagswahl im Herbst 2017 entstehen. Nach den Sommerferien wird auch in Bayern der Wahlkampf anlaufen. In aktuellen Umfragen liegt die AfD derzeit bei 15 Prozent, was mehr als 100 Bundestagsmandate bedeuten würde.
Bundessprecherin Frauke Petry beschrieb in ihrer Rede den Ausblick auf die Herausforderungen für das spannende kommende Jahr. Im Rückblick auf das erfolgreich gestemmte Mammutprojekt des neuen Grundsatzprogramms würdigte Sie dieses ganz besonders. An ihm hatten auch mehrere Hundert bayerische Parteimitglieder in den zehn Landesfachausschüssen intensiv mitgearbeitet, betonte Stephan Protschka. Das Programm trage vor allem bei den Themen Europa, EU, Islam und Außenwirtschaftspolitik eine deutliche bayerische Handschrift.
