Metropolitan Railway, the Met Line taken in 1910 from Baker Street to Uxbridge then continuing on to Aylesbury passing through many old stations. Soundtrack added. In January 2013 steam returned to the Met in the form of Metropolitan number 1. To make this run something extra special, former Metropolitan coaches from the LTM and Bluebell Railway were used as the rolling stock. To top it all off to assist with the top and tail operation was the LTM's own electric loco number 12 Sarah Siddons. This film was taken over both operating weekends by Sam Brown, Donna Lipowitz, Chris Eden-Green and Conor O'Connor.

The London Underground History - Geographic History.
The idea of an underground railway linking the City of London with
some of the railway termini in its urban centre was proposed in the 1830s, and the Metropolitan Railway was granted permission to build such a line in 1854. The world's first underground railway, it opened in January 1863 between Paddington and Farringdon using gas-lit wooden carriages hauled by steam locomotives. It was hailed as a success, carrying 38,000 passengers on the opening day, and borrowing trains from other railways to supplement the service. The Metropolitan District Railway (commonly known as the District Railway) opened in December 1868 from South Kensington to Westminster as part of a plan for an underground 'inner circle' connecting London's main-line termini. The Metropolitan and District railways completed the Circle line in 1884,[16] built using the cut and cover method. Both railways expanded, the District building five branches to the west reaching Ealing, Hounslow, Uxbridge, Richmond and Wimbledon and the Metropolitan eventually extended as far as Verney Junction in Buckinghamshire, more than 50 miles (80 km) from Baker Street and the centre of London.

This film shows a drivers eye view of the Metropolitan line. It goes from London's Baker Street to almost Aylesbury and passes through Rickmansworth and Chorley Wood stations. The idea of an underground railway linking the City of London with
some of the railway termini in its urban centre was proposed in the 1830s, and the Metropolitan Railway was granted permission to build such a line in 1854. The world's first underground railway, it opened in January 1863 between Paddington and Farringdon using gas-lit wooden carriages hauled by steam locomotives. It was hailed as a success, carrying 38,000 passengers on the opening day, and borrowing trains from other railways to supplement the service. The Metropolitan District Railway (commonly known as the District Railway) opened in December 1868 from South Kensington to Westminster as part of a plan for an underground 'inner circle' connecting London's main-line termini. The Metropolitan and District railways completed the Circle line in 1884,[16] built using the cut and cover method. Both railways expanded, the District building five branches to the west reaching Ealing, Hounslow, Uxbridge, Richmond and Wimbledon and the Metropolitan eventually extended as far as Verney Junction in Buckinghamshire, more than 50 miles (80 km) from Baker Street and the centre of London.

The Metropolitan Railway E Class is a class of 0-4-4T steam locomotives. A total of seven locomotives were built between 1896 and 1901 for the Metropolitan Railway: three by the railway at their Neasden Works and four by Hawthorn Leslie and Company in Newcastle upon Tyne.
One locomotive became Metropolitan Railway No.1 and was a replacement for A Class (4-4-0T) No.1 which had been scrapped after an accident. The other locomotives were numbered 77 to 82. Number 77 is known to have been fitted with condensing apparatus. It is likely that condensing apparatus was originally fitted to the whole class, but later removed.
L44 (No.1) had the honour of working the last steam-hauled LT passenger train in 1961, and survived in use until 1965; it is now preserved at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.

Severn Valley Railway - Autumn Steam Gala - Saturday 21st September 2013
The Autumn Gala season is upon us once again, and one of the biggest events of the year is the Severn Valley's Autumn Steam Gala. Famed for its constant running from Friday morning to Sunday evening, it is one of the musts for many enthusiasts each year. This year saw four guest locos joining the home fleet to run the gala services, three of which were replacements for other original guest locos! The replacement for SR King Arthur Class No 777 'Sir Lamiel' was one of the big draws for people attended, coming in the form of LMS Coronation Class No 42633 'Duchess of Sutherland', with its trains being packed the whole of Saturday.
