Attracting the youth into Agriculture: ICTs and value chain development are changing the perspective of farming in Africa and Latin America. From a back breaking, hardly remunerative, labour consuming task to a much more profitable and solid source of income.
This video illustrates a youth's ICT-enabled journey into profitable farming, based on the publication 'ICT4D Effects: Youth, ICTs and Agriculture'.
Through the use of ICT as a tool and driver for development and social change, IICD continues to accelerate development by building capacities of farmers, entrepreneurs, teachers, students and health professionals, with a special focus on women and the youth. Most of them live in remote rural areas and are now using ICTs to access information, communicate and do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.
The publication 'ICT4D Effects: Youth, ICTs and Agriculture' is informed by the findings from recent research focused on three projects under the Connect4Change (C4C) Economic Development programme located in western Kenya, which focus on enhancing agricultural productivity and access to markets. The research investigated the linkages between the introduction and the use of ICT in farming and the interest of youth in farming and value chain development. That′s the idea at the center of Korea′s 14th creative economy innovation center... aimed at converging farming with information and communications technologies.
Located in Sejong， the center will turn conventional farms into so－called ″smart farms″ acting as a testing ground for the integration of the Internet of Things out in the field.
Through monitoring systems embedded in greenhouses， farmers will be able to remotely control conditions like temperature， humidity， and water supply through their smartphones.
SK Telecom is supporting operations for the center... providing mobile network systems required for the project.
Strategically located in the country′s administrative capital... the Sejong center is also looking to create synergy with other regions.
″The Sejong center will work in tandem with biotech research centers in Daejeon， and with innovation centers in Jeollanam－do and Gangwon－do provinces... to boost startups in the agricultural sector.
We aim to foster Sejong city as the mecca of smart farming， sharing its innovations across the country and overseas.″
″Collaboration between the 14 innovation centers is revving up... with joint projects between these centers and the public and private sectors well underway now.
These projects will be exhibited at a creative economy fair in Seoul at the end of year.

ABSTRACT
An intensive implementation of Information and Communication Technologies is highly required for greater beneficiary in agriculture. To achieve this in a sustainable way, implementation of ICT based technology in precision farming at the earliest is required. More specifically, Indian farming requires efficient usage of fertilizer recommendations for each crop type at time intervals during the harvesting period. India needs to go mature in taking agriculture technology a bit further by using technologies like Multi-model decision support system, GPS (Global Positioning System), GIS (Geographic Information System) Cloud, Spatial data analytics, and various other technological wonders. This paper proposes a best available edge cutting and benefiting ICT initiatives by using cloud based web GIS, Mobile, and Kiosk in fertilizer recommendations for precision farming and primarily aiming at the soil health in Indian agriculture.

Several ICT applications are possible in agriculture and their rapid development is sustained by a series of factors, such as the cost fall of electronic components, the incredible development of mobile apps (web 2.0 and 3.0), and the liberalization of military technologies that allow to gather data by remote sensing in handy and cheap ways.
Use of imaging of land surface by satellite and flights, the so-called remote sensing, is a consolidated experience with various applications in the agro and forest sectors. The integration of remote sensing with proximity sensors and analyses at soil level represent the new technology challenge that can facilitate further developments.
ICT promises to operate a real revolution in agriculture, by transforming field observations into numbers that can be managed by decision support systems in order to support farmer’s competitiveness and process sustainability.
Currently Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly defined droned, are in great phase of development.
The conference will gather world experts on ICT and will highlight the experience on ICT application demonstrations in agriculture, exploited within DITRIA project. The conference will illustrate other relevant experiences in agriculture of ICT developers and research centers present in Basilicata. The conference will also define future scenarios useful for the development of Agrotech in Basilicata.
