Plot: The definite biography told by the man who lived it himself, Evel Knievel. The undisputed King of the Daredevils. The Last Gladiator. His exploits are legendary and it's unlikely his accomplishments or notoriety will ever be duplicated. He was a self-made sports superstar whose only competitor was Death. And it was a foe he faced regularly throughout his life. No one, including Evel, ever believed he would live to old age. But Knievel has never been a man who did what was expected. Today, as he enters the twilight of his life, he is paying a high price for the life he led. Blood transfusions from his many near death injuries left him with Hepatitis C. In 1999 he had a liver transplant to ward off death once again. While still outspoken and controversial, his health has been fragile since this surgery. Although he is only 66 years old, today he lives in pain from the incredible abuse his body suffered during his days as a daredevil. No one can say for certain just how much longer he can keep death at bay. This interview and documentary may very well be his last chance at a public forum, a final opportunity to set the record straight and share the philosophies that have guided his life. The documentary takes a non-traditional approach as the producers let Evel tell his story himself. With the exception of his son, Robby Knievel, this is a very rare and candid first hand account coming from the man who lived the legend. Evel is extremely candid about his exploits, his loves, his legend and the philosophies that have guided his life. The documentary is also a showcase for never before seen footage of his life and exploits making it, perhaps one of the best documentaries on Evel Knievel.

Quotes:
[first lines]::Evel Knievel: [speaking to the camera] Ladies and gentlemen, you have no idea how good it makes me feel to be here today. It is truly an honor to risk my life for you. An honor. Before I jump this motorcycle over these 19 cars - and I want you to know there's not a Volkswagen or a Datsun in the row - before I sail cleanly over that last truck, I want to tell you that last night a kid came up to me and he said, "Mr Knievel, are you crazy? That jump you're going to make is impossible, but I already have my tickets because I want to see you splatter." That's right, that's what he said. And I told that boy last night that nothing is impossible.
Evel Knievel: A Roman general in the time of Caesar had a motto - "If it is possible, it is done. If it is impossible... it will be done." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I live by.
Evel Knievel: I am the last gladiator in the New Rome. I go into the arena and I compete against destruction and I win! And next week I go out there and I do it again.
[last lines]::Evel Knievel: We have very little choice about our life. The only thing really left us is a choice about our death. And mine will be... [camera pans across the Grand Canyon]... glorious!
Evel Knievel: You stick with me, Doc, and I'll show you the Grand Canyon!::Doc Kincaid: Every man has to make his mark... and yours will be on the North Wall.
[after his spectacular crash at Caesar's Palace]::Nurse #1: Do you have a statement for his wife yet, Doctor?::Doc Kincaid: Well he's broken his arm, his legs, his back... he didn't break his neck. I don't understand it, but he didn't break his neck.

Evel Knievel at Caesar's Palace
GREAT music video featuring Evel footage!
http://youtu.be/n2PXzIpvJc4
While in
Las Vegas, Nevada, to watch
Dick Tiger fight a middleweight title fight, Knievel first saw the fountains at
Caesar's Palace and decided to jump them. To get an audience with the casino's
CEO Jay Sarno, Knievel created a fictitious corporation called
Evel Knievel Enterprises and three fictitious lawyers to make phone calls to
Sarno. Knievel also placed phone calls to Sarno claiming to be from
ABC-TV and
Sports Illustrated inquiring about the jump. Sarno finally agreed to meet Knievel and the deal was set for Knievel to jump the fountains on
December 31,
1967. After the deal was set, Knievel tried to get
ABC to air the event live on
Wide World of Sports. ABC declined, but said that if Knievel had the jump filmed and it was as spectacular as he said it would be, they would consider using it later.
Knievel used his own money to have actor/director
John Derek produce a film of the
Caesar's jump. To keep costs low,
Derek used his then-wife,
Linda Evans, as one of the camera operators. It was
Evans who filmed Knievel's famous landing. On the morning of the jump, Knievel stopped in the casino and placed a single $
100 dollar bet on the blackjack table, which he lost, stopped by the bar and got a shot of
Wild Turkey and then headed outside where he was joined by several members of the Caesar's staff, as well as two scantily clad showgirls. After doing his normal pre-jump show and a few warm up approaches, Knievel began his real approach. When he hit the takeoff ramp, he felt the motorcycle unexpectedly decelerate. The sudden loss of power on the takeoff caused Knievel to come up short and land on the safety ramp which was supported by a van. This caused the handlebars to be ripped out of his hands as he tumbled over them onto the pavement where he skidded into the
Dunes parking lot. As a result of the crash, Knievel received a crushed pelvis and femur, fractures to his hip, wrist and both ankles and a concussion that kept him in a coma for 29 days.
