Cabeceiras de Basto

Cabeceiras de Basto (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐβɨˈsɐjɾɐʃ ðɨ ˈβaʃtu]) is a municipality in the district of Braga in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 16,710, in an area of 241.82 km².

The municipality borders the municipality of Montalegre to the north, Boticas to the northeast, Ribeira de Pena to the east, Mondim de Basto to the southeast, Celorico de Basto to the south, Fafe to the west and Vieira do Minho to the northwest.

The present mayor is Joaquim Almeida Barreto, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is September 29.

Basto (musician)

Jef Martens (born 8 January 1975), better known by his stage name Basto, is a Belgian record producer, musician and DJ specializing in electro house music and signed to the ARS label. He has also been known by various aliases such as Bitch Boys, Candyman, Dirty Bunch, DJ Basik, Lazy Jay, Jin Sonic, and Kings of Porn. He is also a current member of the Belgian dance group Lasgo. He is best known for producing Azealia Banks' hit debut single "212" under the alias of "Lazy Jay", together with his brother Toon. Martens also co-produced with the band Lasgo in 2009 and 2010 on a number of singles.

Musical career

He started DJing in 2005, finding local success in Belgium and the Netherlands through "Rock With You" (2005) and a later cooperation with Peter Luts in "On My Own" (2008). It was with "Gregory's Theme" (2011) that Basto found chart success in France. The song was originally written as an orchestral piece, in homage to Hugh Laurie's iconic TV character Gregory House, and was later transformed into a dance record by Basto. After some well-received remixes for well-known artists, including Kylie Minogue, Moby and Sander Van Doorn, he gained international fame through a successful dance hit, "Again and Again" in 2011. Basto! dropped the exclamation mark from his name to be known as Basto. He also produced Scream & Shout for will.i.am and Britney Spears in 2012.

Basto (horse)

Basto (1703 – c. 1723) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse, who was one of the most celebrated racehorses of the early 18th century. He was described as "remarkably strong... one of the most beautiful horses of his colour that ever appeared in this kingdom".

History

Basto was a brown horse, sired by the Byerley Turk, out of Bay Peg, a daughter of the Leedes Arabian. His breeder, Sir William Ramsden, sold the horse to the Duke of Devonshire while he was still young.

In his racing career at the home of British racing in Newmarket, he won at least five match races (possibly more, since he raced before records were reliably kept) against some of the leading horses of the time.

At the Duke of Devonshire's stud, he sired several important racemares and broodmares including the dams of Old Crab, Blacklegs and Snip. Other offspring included Brown Betty, Coquette and Soreheels.
