Collins Street is a major street in the central Melbourne running approximately east to west. It is notable as Melbourne's traditional main street and best known street. It is also often regarded as Australia's premier street, has several fine Victorian era buildings, is the home of prestigious boutiques and high-end retailers and was for a long time the centre of finance in Australia. The eastern end of the street was known as the 'Paris end' because of its former architecture, now remembered in the nineteenth century "Marvellous Melbourne" mythology.[1]
The length of Collins Street between Elizabeth and King Street has long been the financial heart of Melbourne and is home to various banks and insurance companies.
Here's a little gem - a minute or so of 1964 vintage Melbourne! Fabulous little item: FB, EK, and EJ Holden taxis, even a teleporting bus!
Shot as raw footage for insertion into a HSV-7 news story on an upcoming strike (May 1964 power strike?), it's a gorgeous time capsule - just ignore the voice-over from David Johnston (whose head eerily pops into shot at the top right hand corner)

Out east, Street running is pretty common. In the west however, they're very few and far between. And therefor, when I returned from Cheyenne, I insisted I go railfan Mason St. in Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition to having the best college in the state (CSU) it's also home to probably the best street running anywhere in the west.
Today's train was a coal drag lead by BNSF SD70ACe 9201. The amount of K5LLA and the length of the train through the city sure made that area stop and stare. This was the First time I've ever seen a train move down the street like this, and I'm glad I caught it, because they're renovating this area, possibly sectioning off this track by this summer.
