Chayei Adam (חיי אדם "The Life of Man") is a work of Jewish law by Rabbi Avraham Danzig (1748–1820), dealing with the laws discussed in the Orach Chayim section of the Shulchan Aruch. It is divided into 224 sections - 69 dealing with daily conduct and prayer, and 155 with Shabbos (Sabbath) and Yom Tov (holidays).
Chayei Adam was intended primarily "for the cultured layman", as opposed to rabbinic scholars, and the work is thus presented in a readily accessible form. In many cities, societies were formed for the purpose of studying Chayei Adam.
In this work, Rabbi Danzig collected and critically sifted the Acharonic material in the field of the Halakha written in the more than two and a half centuries since the appearance of the Shulchan Aruch. A parallel work Nishmas Adam, published together with Chayei Adam, discusses the halachic issues in greater depth. The two are usually printed together.
The scholarship of the work is evidenced by the fact that Rabbi Chaim Volozhin, known for his opposition to "digests of halacha", granted the work his approbation (on condition that each section be cross-referenced to the Shulkhan Arukh to allow for further study). The rulings of the Chayei Adam are often cited in later works, especially the Mishnah Berurah.
Adam (Hebrew: אָדָם, Arabic: آدم, Syriac: ܐܵܕ݂ܵܡ) is a figure in the Book of Genesis, the Qur'an and the Kitáb-i-Íqán. According to the creation myth of Abrahamic religions, he is the first human. In the Genesis creation narratives, he was created by Yahweh-Elohim ("Yahweh-God", the god of Israel), though the term "adam" can refer to both the first individual person, as well as to the general creation of humankind. Christian churches differ on how they view Adam's subsequent behavior (often called the Fall of man), and to the consequences that those actions had on the rest of humanity. Christian and Jewish teachings sometimes hold Adam and Eve (the first woman) to a different level of responsibility for the Fall, though Islamic teaching holds both equally responsible. In addition, Islam holds that Adam was eventually forgiven, while Christianity holds that redemption occurred only later through the sacrifice of God's son, Jesus Christ. Bahá'í Faith, Islam and some Christian denominations consider Adam to be the first Prophet.
Sandra "Puma" Jones (5 October 1953—28 January 1990) was an American singer, best known for her involvement with the Grammy Award-winning group, Black Uhuru.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Jones graduated from Columbia University with a Masters Degree, before becoming a social worker in New York City. She studied dance with the Chuck Davis troupe where she took particular interest in African dance. After becoming disillusioned with city life she declared a need to "discover her roots" and headed for Jamaica - ostensibly on vacation, but intending to seek employment.
She sang with Miriam Makeba and Ras Michael, and the Sons of Negus. In 1978, through Ras Michael, she was introduced by a mutual friend to Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, who was looking to augment Black Uhuru following line up changes that had brought Michael Rose into the band. She joined Black Uhuru for the recording sessions of the 1979 album, Showcase. She went on to sing on seven studio albums, which represents the groups most critically acclaimed period, culminating in the Grammy Award for 1983's Anthem.
Simon Jacobson (born December 8, 1956) is the author of Toward a Meaningful Life (William Morrow, 2002), founder of The Meaningful Life Center and publisher of the Yiddish English weekly, The Algemeiner Journal.
Jacobson was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied in the United Lubavitcher Yeshiva and the Rabbinical College of America, and did his Post-Graduate studies in Central Tomchei Tmimim. He married on February 21, 1983 and has two children.
He worked in close association with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. In 1979, he headed a team of scholars known as Vaad Hanachos Hatemimim that memorized and transcribed entire talks that the Lubavitcher Rebbe gave during the Sabbath and holidays (as writing and tape recording are not permitted on holy days). This team published more than 1,000 of the Rebbe's talks. He also headed the research team for Sefer HaLikkutim - an encyclopedic collection of Chassidic thought anthologized from the works of the Tzemach Tzedek (26 volumes, published 1977-1982).
Adam Grossman is the guitarist and singer of the Texas-based Industrial metal band Skrew and the crossover thrash band Angkor Wat, both of which he co-founded with his friend Danny Lohner. After Skrew's demise in the late 1990s, Grossman later joined Ministry on its 2003 album, Animositisomina, where he played rhythm guitar on the track "Animosity." Although he initially intended on touring with Ministry, he decided not to do so.
Used to think I was invincible
No I know I was right, and still am.
The strongest man in the world says ok
Dancing drunk on slack ropes
with a grin
Clumsy yet courageous
Not afraid of anything
But all words feel hollow
and will be misunderstood.
Light as feathers/
Heavy as the weight of bitterness
On your shoulders
In your head. In your mouth. In the air
Everything that’s valuable costs.
Skeletons. Shadows move
deep inside, and the songs:
Heard before; wry and wrong
Leperwoman strikes again:
Weary Drunk Antichrist
No Remorse in this house
as the dead kiss the living in the neck
and seasons change- do I thrust myself?
Talking to myself cause
no surprises to come
Queen/Clown cling to the old
words and thoughts on repeat
I’ll destroy everything
beat myself up again- with grace
I take it back. No I don’t!
Shut my mouth.
I take it back. No(w)
Go to sleep...
Seasons change- they will do with or without me
That’s ok, I don’t need no camouflage
I wanna go somewhere
Hang out with the locals
Drink me some beer
Stare at the sky
Gaze at the sea
Worship the sun
And if the mood ain’t right
I just go somewhere else
I wanna go somewhere
Send postcards to mummy
Rent me a car
Spite gravity
Conquer the world
Chase butterflies
I wanna go somewhere
Play poker with strangers
Sleep in the rain
Homesick and drunk
Cursing the world
Nothing new was brought by the first light.
Waiting for.. The world is still sleeping
Well, who knows? No use for my strength here
And who needs the weak touch of shaking hands?
Tried to prove that rock `n roll’s not dead
Smaller now. And so strangely hollow
If there was a reason to return
But who needs the weak touch of shaking hands?
Warm me now
Sooth me now
Crush me now
Warm me now
Up and out- And down in that old hole
Gods some times need rest
If there was a reason to return
But who needs the weak touch of shaking hands?
Warm me now
Sooth me now
Crush me now
Warm me now
Do you want my stories?
You can have them if you want to
My unfinished circles?
You can have them if you want to
No good conclusion to be drawn, yet.
Some sunny day?
Don’t know what I’m doing, maybe?
You are valuable, I hate me
You don’t know all secrets
May it drive you more than crazy?
Yesterday’s Fixations
Yesterdays. Fixations
Yesterdays: Fixations
Maybe laughter in these walls
"Who"s and "Why"s and "So"s crawling
Crack me open please
All the colours: Gone?
Then was then, and now is then
the holes to fill with time or time
and time is time, just time- and times might change
Maybe look another way
Dive how deep this time
Will that strong oxygen last
Little pearls of pain dripping on a wornout helmet
Dirty Gloomoscopelenses float around the house
But What did I Expect?
Right angles and insight?
Silence Peace Serotonin?
Chaos Love Intoxication?
Picking Flowers/Dirt/Pieces/Fights
Numb hands, grey face - jaded
Some songs: Better left unsung.
No good reasons
Here comes happiness.
But the codex: Unfamiliar
I`will have my ways.
I might change my ways/my mistakes
Change the Warm to Cold
(When I’m out of ammunition)
See the pictures clear
Learn those complicated lessons
Desolated truths making my regressiondress all wet.
What to expect?
Vanity and Emptiness Regrets?
Selfconfidence
Instincts Hate Retaliation.
Everlasting dead, safe oppressive Nothingness, Or?
Eating Flowers/Dirt
Swallow.
Eating furniture and pride
Swallow.
Some songs: Better left unsung?
Swallow
Sun and silver until Umba
Little spark, smoke, flame and fire
Burn and Burn and Burn. How you Burn
Burn and Burn and Burn and Burn out
Love is : love - Lo-Fi - Red
It`s strange when boy meets girl meet wall
Floor and walls and ceiling. Sofa
Wine and Woe and Wrath and Boo-hoo
Mononothing
Mononomore
All those little ghosts a-haunting.
Hooks: Still sharp
The dog is you
Burn and Burn and Burn. How you Burn
Some times the "some times" passes by
A piece of laughter in my hand
On neuroleptic straight trip days...
A red sensation in my hand
If death was just death, and pigeons
A growing urge; no face, no name
Get dressed, get out and meet the world
A haunted longing (chewing bones)
As secrets rot inside the w...
No reason to bring your enemies straight to your door
Angels might be singing for you, if the wind...
But mock, the scorn, the whatever
I’m calm, so please don’t stare that way
My gaze is fixed some other place
No use in carving hearts in wood
Yesterdays might be tomorrows. So why be afraid?
Angels might be singing for you, if the wind
A growing urge. This growing urge
I’m calm. I’m calm. I’m still alive
A piece of sun a piece of rain.
It might be getting to you
Yesterdays might be tomorrows. So why be afraid?
Angels might be singing for you, if the wind blows it all far away.
Flowers on the phone
Silent and surprised- Circleman:
( Memo dynamite. Instant emocide )
"Quite some time"
"Hope that you’re ok, days are ugly I.."Flowers said
"Don’t know where I’ve been, not sure where to go." Flowers said
"Empty I’m inside, some things never die." Flowers said
And I fell
Waiting. Deadendgames
Listening for that sound. Circletime
Meaning searching home. Eaten up by words
"Heading where?"
Nothing’s beyond. Nothing. Repair
Always: Heart
Nothing to forgive. Nothing to forget
The lights never meant for some:
Shining with the strangest glow
..I don’t know that language well
Everyone loves happy ends
Mirrors blank. Faces unknown
Who can clearly see that there’s
Just one good trick in the book
No regrets. No plan B
Silencing the silence
Emptying the empty
Silverswoonalong:
Just silent. Empty
Dry your tears my friend- Or don’t
If you think that makes you good
Go on- Throw me to the wolves
Maybe that`s where I belong?
Little cat is chasing dogs
Giant dogs - dangerous teeth
Wolfs and rattlesnakes as well
-That`s a mystery to me
Tip-toe. Over unknown ground
Little cat on silent feet
Grass is thick and grass is high
Always finds the way back home
-That`s a mystery to me
Tip-toe. Over unknown ground
Little cat - the flowers sleep
Shadows hugging - shadows: Friends
Sound in cotton - sound hush
-You`re a mystery to me
When You`re sleeping
Are You dreaming
’Bout tomorrow
Moving restlessly
In my house angels laugh
Get the fuck out of here
Overcome everything
Everything`s amplified
-Big time
You are gold - Always gold
Winding roads. Ways back home
Exit gold - Always gold
So alive that it hurts
-Big time
Me and you. You and me
Days breed weeks. Me and me
Me and red. Red and wall
Say hello to the wall
Hurts?
Sing another deadendlovesong
Dream another dream.
Keep on feeling ugly. Keep on smiling. Ok
Well- I know someone who often
makes me feel quite good. Secrets.
There are always secrets, you know. Ok
Well- hooray...
Old dogs out and new dogs in- and new dogs out again
Don’t you know this party’s never over. Ok?
Times for crawling. Times for cleansing yourself:
Pure and White
So they say, and so they don’t . So. So far; Ok
Retromantic floggingmatches. Equilibrium
Faster/Stronger beats that heart
Bring the stake, the nails, the wine
Down into the coffin black
Distance: Six feet. Time: Unknown
As all kinds of predators long to tear flesh of your bones
Too much future/presence/electricity/reason/nothing/electricity
If I understand myself?
Digging holes, being away
Even ghosts believe in ghosts
And it’s too true to be good
Get your head checked brother Numb
Plugging holes heads ears and wholes
