Ismael Cruz Cordova Interview Miss Bala
The world of Mexican border gang violence might seem light-years away from Sesame Street, yet actor Ismael Cruz Cordova managed the trip with his humor in tact. The actor, who landed the role of Mando on Sesame Street in 2013, is currently starring alongside Gina Rodriguez in Catherine Hardwicke's remake of the 2011 Mexican thriller Miss Bala.
This update on the film (which in turn is based on the true story of beauty queen Laura Zúñiga) taps into a more current vein by turning the protagonist from a Mexican pageant princess working for the cartels to Gloria Meyer (Gina Rodriguez), an American makeup artist visiting a friend in Baja. When her friend is kidnapped, Gloria is forced into the arms of a cartel leader– played Córdova– and smuggle laundered money across the border in an attempt to extricate herself from the long arms of the DEA and gang warfare.

Córdoba, Andalusia
Córdoba (/ˈkɔːrdəbə/, Spanish: [ˈkoɾðoβa]), also called Cordova (/ˈkɔːrdəvə/) in English, is a city in Andalusia, southern Spain, and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It was conquered by invading Islamic armies in the eighth century, and then became the capital of the Islamic Emirate and then Caliphate of Córdoba, including most of the Iberian Peninsula.
It has been estimated that in the 10th century Córdoba was the most populous city in the world, and under the rule of Caliph Al Hakam II it had also become a centre for education under its Islamic rulers. Al Hakam II opened many libraries in addition to the many medical schools and universities which existed at this time. During these centuries Córdoba became a predominantly Muslim society with minorities living in a restricted second-class status. It returned to Christian rule in 1236, during the Reconquista. Today it is a moderately sized modern city; its population in 2011 was about 330,000. The historic centre was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cruz is a surname of Iberian origin, first found in Castile, Spain, but later spread throughout the territories of the former Spanish and Portuguese Empires. Ismael Cruz Cordova Interview Miss Bala
The world of Mexican border gang violence might seem light-years away from Sesame Street, yet actor Ismael Cruz Cordova managed the trip with his humor in tact. The actor, who landed the role of Mando on Sesame Street in 2013, is currently starring alongside Gina Rodriguez in Catherine Hardwicke's remake of the 2011 Mexican thriller Miss Bala.
This update on the film (which in turn is based on the true story of beauty queen Laura Zúñiga) taps into a more current vein by turning the protagonist from a Mexican pageant princess working for the cartels to Gloria Meyer (Gina Rodriguez), an American makeup artist visiting a friend in Baja. When her friend is kidnapped, Gloria is forced into the arms of a cartel leader– played Córdova– and smuggle laundered money across the border in an attempt to extricate herself from the long arms of the DEA and gang warfare.
