In physics, sound is a vibration that propagates as a typically audible mechanical wave of pressure and displacement, through a medium such as air or water. In physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain.
Acoustics is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including vibration, sound, ultrasound, and infrasound. A scientist who works in the field of acoustics is an acoustician, while someone working in the field of acoustical engineering may be called an acoustical engineer. An audio engineer, on the other hand is concerned with the recording, manipulation, mixing, and reproduction of sound.
Applications of acoustics are found in almost all aspects of modern society, subdisciplines include aeroacoustics, audio signal processing, architectural acoustics, bioacoustics, electro-acoustics, environmental noise, musical acoustics, noise control, psychoacoustics, speech, ultrasound, underwater acoustics, and vibration.
A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.
The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
Location Songs was a music publisher in Stockholm, Sweden. It was a follow-on to Cheiron Studios, which despite its success, was closed down in 2000. Following this, Max Martin and Tom Talomaa started a new production company together named Maratone in January 2001. David Kreuger and Per Magnusson started A Side Productions and Kristian Lundin started a third studio, The Location, together with Jake Schulze at the same location as Cheiron Studios.
The studio closed down in 2006 and it was leased by Roxy Recordings in 2007.

In Hollywood, everything is magic and make-believe, even sounds. When you watch a film that immerses you completely in its world, you’re probably hearing the work of sound artists. If the work is done right, you won’t be able to tell that the “natural” sounds on screen are manufactured with studio props. That's the challenge for Warner Bros. Foley artists Alyson Moore, Chris Moriana and mixer Mary Jo Lang. Theirs is a practice in recreation, one creative element at a time. In 1919, American inventor Lee De Forest was awarded several patents that would lead to the first optical sound-on-film technology with commercial application. In De Forest's system, the sound track was photographically recorded on to the side of the strip of motion picture film to create a composite, or "married", print. If proper synchronization of sound and picture was achieved in recording, it could be absolutely counted on in playback. Over the next four years, he improved his system with the help of equipment and patents licensed from another American inventor in the field, Theodore Case.

Us film-makers know how important the sound production is for a film, but still there are some that think that the video itself is what creates the professional Hollywood feeling to the film. I can agree that the video-quality is important, but by doing some nice sound design you can improve your film-quality a lot! The whole idea of sound recording, is to get as clear sound as possible. To do this, you need to get as close as you can get to the sound source. Using a Zoom H4n audio recorder, a Røde mini pole, a shock mount, a Røde NTG-1 shotgun microphone and a XLR cabel, you can get really nice and clear sound without spending to much money. Recording good sound quality on set is not the only tip to get a professional look. Use time in post production to work with the sound design to cr...

A couple of people have asked me to make a long video of storm footage. Apparently it's relaxing??? It helps them sleep?????? Not quite sure how that works since it's the last thing that we can do!!! However, a little bit of research into very long videos showing the same sort of thing over a few hours has shown me that they can be quite popular????????? With this in mind I have cobbled together 2 1/2 hours of storm footage. It will take me a couple of days to upload but, if it's your cup of tea, then you're in for a treat 😀

A description and demonstration of the Warner Bros Vitaphone sound and film system. Vitaphone was the 1st commercially successful sound system for motion pictures. Sound was recorded on a wax disc (record) synchronized to the camera. Copies of the disc were played back synchronized to the projector. The system was phased out in the 1930's and replaced with an optical sound track printed on the film.
Deep within Fiordland National Park lies New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction: Milford Sound.
