A record shop or record store is an outlet that sells recorded music. Although vinyl records and audio cassettes are no longer sold in the majority of music stores, in favour of compact discs and home video recordings products, people in some countries, like the UK, still use the term "record shop", in conjunction with "CD shop" or "music shop".
Originally record shops were privately run and independent businesses, meaning that prices could differ greatly from town to town, store to store. Today music shops are largely chain owned and thus prices are fairly similar regardless of the wealth of the town. In the United Kingdom the national chain style of selling records and tapes took off with Our Price, itself originally a small independent business founded in the early 1970s that expanded nationwide.
Competition (like any major business) is fierce, proven by the closure of Our Price in 2004 after several rival chains emerged in the 1980s and 1990s, including HMV, Virgin Megastore and Music and Video Club. Around the world, the traditional record stores (chain or independent) are currently suffering from mail order (most notably on the Internet), as well as supermarkets and box stores selling recorded music at prices way below the recommended dealer price as a loss leader, thus devaluing the product to a damaging degree, and digital downloads.
Hit the Lights is a pop punk band from Lima, Ohio, signed to Razor & Tie.
Hit the Lights formed in 2003, taking their name from an 80's skate flick called Gleaming the Cube according to their Warped Tour interview, not the previously believed Metallica song on the album Kill 'Em All. Band members Colin Ross and Omar Zehery performed first as Headliner, then The Goodbye Session with then-drummer Reymundo Ortiz Jr. Nick Thompson was in a group called The Summer Departure. Nate Van Dame had worked for Hawthorne Heights as a drum tech. They quickly found a devoted following with their energetic live performances.
They have taken part in numerous national tours, including the spring 2006 Sub City Take Action tour with Matchbook Romance and the 2005 and 2006 Vans Warped Tours. They were named SPIN Band of the Day on April 11, 2006. They also toured with Paramore, Cute Is What We Aim For, and This Providence in the summer of 2006. After the Paramore tour, they started on tour with New Found Glory, Cartel, and The Early November. They toured in the UK during December 2006. The band ventured on its first headlining tour in March and April 2007, with supporting acts Valencia, All Time Low, Just Surrender, Forgive Durden, and Love Arcade. In late 2008, they supported major acts Motion City Soundtrack and Chiodos, then went to the UK, co-headlining with Bayside. After the headlining tour, the band took the summer off to write and record for their second album (Skip School, Start Fights), which was recorded with Rob Freeman at the Pilot Studios in Boonton, New Jersey. Hit the Lights was one of five featured bands in the 2009 Alternative Press Tour.
Workaholic, what it be?
Heard you're working eleven days a week
I used to know just where you're coming from
I used to know but with that I'm done
I got a job at a record store
Three days a week, no more than four
Sometimes you got to take a look around
Sometimes you got to slow things down
Looking out my bedroom window
You're looking at your office wall
I'm walking around like Marlon Brando
You're sitting down, not walking at all
Don't know what you're thinking
I don't work no overtime
Working at the record store
Look at me, I'm doing fine
Yeah, I'm doing fine
I see you're working on the weekends now
I guess, Mondays aren't such a shock
I spend my time just sitting around
I listen to that old punk rock
I take my time and never hurry
You use your time as best as you can
I'm acting like Billy Murry
You're acting like your dead in the sand
Don't know what you're thinking
I don't work no overtime
Working at the record store
Look at me, I'm doing fine, yeah
Got a job at a record store
Three days a week, no more than four
Sometimes you got to take a look around
Sometimes you got to slow things down
Looking out my bedroom window
You're looking at your office wall
I'm walking around like Marlon Brando
You're sitting down, not walking at all
Don't know what you're thinking
Don't work no overtime
Working at the record store
Look at me, I'm doing fine
I said, don't know what you're thinking
I don't work no overtime

Don't work no overtime
I'm working at the record store

I'm working at the record store, yeah
Working at the, working at the
