Laserdisc: An Introduction
You can support this channel on Patreon! Link below
Laserdisc seems to get a lot of retro cred these days. It gets featured as a technical oddity, but from today’s perspective, it might seem strange that it didn’t become the de-facto standard. Boasting many of the same features as the modern DVD, you would think it couldn’t possibly have received the cold reception it did. In this series of videos, we’ll find out why.

Laserdisc's Failure: What Went Wrong
You can support this channel on Patreon! Link below
Laserdisc didn't have an easy start. In this video, we take a look at the first few years of Laserdisc's existence. Though many articles or videos talking about Laserdisc will blame the high cost of discs and the inability to record, those problems are only partially to blame.

Playing a Star Wars Laserdisc on a 110" Screen
This is a video I put together showing what a laserdisc is and how you play it. This is recorded from playing on my 110" screen. I picked the original Star wars movie to use as a demo. I did not take clips from the entire movie because I didn't want to get in trouble with Youtube or Lucas Arts. The actual video image is better than what you see but I had to run my camera at 40fps to prevent bad green and purple banding on the screen. Since it is set at 40fps there is more motion blur than I would prefer. Anyway I hope you enjoy this video. If you like it please subscribe, like, and share!

DVD vs Laserdisc vs Bluray -Terminator 2
Here I am comparing my versions of Terminator 2. Laserdisc vs DVD from 1998 versus a brand new remastered Bluray. As you can see, the DVD seems to be a digital copy of the Laserdisc. Far ahead in picture quality the Bluray. Interesting that I had to speed up the Bluray by factor 1.04 to keep up with the others. Captured from my Philips UHD TV with a Nikon D610.

Laserdisc seems to get a lot of retro cred these days. It gets featured as a technical oddity, but from today’s perspective, it might seem strange that it didn’t become the de-facto standard. https://wn.com/Playing_A_Star_Wars_Laserdisc_On_A_110_Screen
