The Macedonian Wars were a series of conflicts fought by the Roman Republic and its Greek allies in the eastern Mediterranean against several different major Greek kingdoms. They resulted in Roman control or influence over the eastern Mediterranean basin, in addition to their hegemony in the western Mediterranean after the Punic wars. Traditionally, the "Macedonian Wars" include the four wars with Macedonia, in addition to one war with the Seleucid Empire, and a final minor war with the Achaean League (which is often considered to be the final stage of the final Macedonian war). The most significant war was that fought with the Seleucid Empire, while the war with Macedonia was the second, and both of these wars effectively marked the end of these empires as major world powers, even though neither of them led immediately to overt Roman domination. Four separate wars were fought against the weaker power, Macedonia, due to its geographic proximity to Rome, though the last two of these wars were against haphazard insurrections rather than powerful armies. Roman influence gradually dissolved Macedonian independence and digested it into what was becoming a leading global empire. The outcome of the war with the now-deteriorating Seleucid Empire was ultimately fatal to it as well, though the growing influence of Parthia and Pontus prevented any additional conflicts between it and Rome.
Roman-Macedonian Wars I will gradually continue to make episodes on Rome somewhat chronologically.
Brief introduction to the Macedonian Wars. Will go over the Battles of Cynoscephalae and Pydna in later videos. Keep your eyes peeled for the next video. It should be coming up in a few weeks.

The Battle of Philippi was the final battle in the Wars of the Second Triumvirate between the forces of Mark Antony and Octavian (of the Second Triumvirate) and the forces of the tyrannicides Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus in 42 BC, at Philippi in Macedonia. The Second Triumvirate declared this civil war to avenge Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC. The battle consisted of two engagements in the plain west of the ancient city of Philippi. The first occurred in the first week of October; Brutus faced Octavian, while Antony's forces fought those of Cassius. At first, Brutus pushed back Octavian and entered his legions' camp. But to the south, Cassius was defeated by Antony, and committed suicide after hearing a false report that Brutus had also failed. Brutus rallied Ca...

This Ancient Warfare Documentary shows that by the eighth century BC, the Assyrians had created the largest empire to date - stretching from the Persian Mediterranean and encompassing the whole of the Middle East. The second part of this Ancient Warfare Documentary starts at 23:42 and focuses on Philip of Macedonia who transformed a largely peasant society into one of the most effective and successful armies of antiquity. These Ancient Warfare Documentaries explain Ancient Warfare is is war as conducted from the beginnings of recorded history to the end of the ancient period.
