Great Britain, also known as Britain i/ˈbrɪ.tən/, is an island in the North Atlantic off the north-west coast of continental Europe. With an area of 209,331 km2 (80,823 sq mi), it is the largest island in Europe and the ninth-largest in the world. In 2011 the island had a population of about 61 million people, making it the third-most populous island in the world, after Java in Indonesia and Honshu in Japan. It accounts for the majority of the British Isles archipelago, along with over 1,000 smaller surrounding islands, including the island of Ireland to its west.
The island is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constituting most of its territory: most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island, with their respective capital cities, London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. Politically, the term Great Britain usually extends to include surrounding islands that form part of England, Scotland, and Wales.
A single Kingdom of Great Britain resulted from the Union of Scotland and England (which already comprised the present-day countries of England and Wales) in 1707. More than a hundred years before, in 1603, King James VI, King of Scots, had inherited the throne of England, but it was not until 1707 that the Parliaments of the two countries agreed to form a unified state. Subsequently, in 1801, Great Britain united with the neighbouring Kingdom of Ireland, forming the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The state was renamed the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" after five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom in 1922.

[English] "God Save the Queen" (alternatively "God Save the King") is the national and/or royal anthem in a number of Commonwealth realms, their territories, and the British Crown Dependencies. The words and title are adapted to the gender of the current monarch, i.e. replacing Queen with King and she with he when a king reigns. The author of the tune is unknown and it may originate in plainchant, but a 1619 attribution to John Bull is sometimes made. It is the national anthem of the United Kingdom and one of two national anthems used by New Zealand since 1977, as well as for several of the UK's territories that have their own additional local anthem. It is also the royal anthem of all the aforementioned countries, as well as Australia (since 1984), Canada (since 1980), Barbados and Tuvalu...
God save the Queen (or God save the King) is one of the most beautiful anthems. What you can hear in this video is my free improvisation at the organ. Its origins go back to 1745 and although not foreseen by national legislation is played and partied in all territories of the British Empire, so it's not only the English anthem. The melody was composed by order of King George II Hanover but the author is still unknown, there is speculation that it may have been written by Carey or Bull. At the end of the description the complete text of the hymn. Luca Raggi at the organ, happy listening. God save the Queen (oppure God save the King a seconda del sesso del regnante) è uno degli inni nazionali più belli. Quella che potete ascoltare in questo video è una mia libera improvvisazione all'organo....

THE NATIONAL ANTHEM CHALLENGE (No.16) Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland [The story behind this challenge... I started learning national anthems (other than the Philippines' where I come from) in 2009 when I was invited to sing both the Philippines' and Singapore's national anthem for an event in Singapore. Unfortunately, close to the event day, the organisers decided to use a recording instead of a live performance (guess they were unsure of me - haha! but thank goodness). Nevertheless, I continued learning the Singapore national anthem. Inspired by learning the new language, I got interested since then to learn more, especially those of the countries I have visited and the ones in my travel bucket list - as if they will easily let me in at the airport if I ca...

Manchester is a city of firsts. It was the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, the place where mankind first split the atom, and the birthplace of the modern computer. The many chapters of Manchester’s story come together in Castlefield. Here you’ll find the remains of a Roman fort, Bridgewater Canal, and some of the mills which once generated incredible wealth for the city. In the background, Beetham Tower is a symbol of a city again on the rise. Manchester’s crowning glory is its Town Hall, built to rival the great buildings of London. During the Industrial Revolution, Manchester’s merchants went on a spending spree, scouring the world in search of cultural treasures to fill their stately homes. Many of these treasures now reside in the Manchester Art Gallery and the Manchester M...

United Kingdom National Anthem God save our gracious Queen! Long live our noble Queen! God save The Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save The Queen! The Crusades is a 1935 American historical adventure film produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille, and originally released by Paramount Pictures. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography (Victor Milner)[4] as well as for Best Foreign Film at the Venice Film Festival in 1935.
