A pen name, nom de plume (/ˌnɒm də ˈpluːm/, French: [nɔ̃ də plym]), or literary double is a pseudonym adopted by an author. A pen name may be used to make the author's name more distinctive, to disguise his or her gender, to distance an author from some or all of his or her previous works, to protect the author from retribution for his or her writings, to combine more than one author into a single author, or for any of a number of reasons related to the marketing or aesthetic presentation of the work. The author's name may be known only to the publisher, or may come to be common knowledge.
An author may use a pen name if his or her real name is likely to be confused with that of another author or notable individual. For instance, Winston Churchill wrote under the name Winston S. Churchill to distinguish his writings from those of the American novelist of the same name, who was at the time much better known.
Some authors who regularly write in more than one genre use different pen names for each. Romance writer Nora Roberts writes erotic thrillers under the pen name J.D. Robb, and Samuel Langhorne Clemens used the aliases Mark Twain and Sieur Louis de Conte for different works. Similarly, an author who writes both fiction and non-fiction (such as the mathematician and fantasy writer Charles Dodgson, who wrote as Lewis Carroll) may use a pseudonym for fiction writing. Science fiction author Harry Turtledove has used the name H.N. Turtletaub for a number of historical novels he has written because he and his publisher felt that the presumed lower sales of those novels might hurt book store orders for the novels he writes under his own name.
A pen (Latin: penna, feather) is a writing implement used to apply ink to a surface, such as paper, for writing or drawing. Historically, reed pens, quill pens, and dip pens were used, with a nib dipped in ink. Ruling pens allow precise adjustment of line width, and still find a few specialized uses, but technical pens such as the Rapidograph are more commonly used. Modern types also include ballpoint, rollerball, fountain, and felt or ceramic tip pens.
The main modern types of pens can be categorized by the kind of writing tip or point:
A name is a term used for identification. Names can identify a class or category of things, or a single thing, either uniquely, or within a given context. A personal name identifies, not necessarily uniquely, a specific individual human. The name of a specific entity is sometimes called a proper name (although that term has a philosophical meaning also) and is, when consisting of only one word, a proper noun. Other nouns are sometimes called "common names" or (obsolete) "general names". A name can be given to a person, place, or thing; for example, parents can give their child a name or scientist can give an element a name.
Caution must be exercised when translating, for there are ways that one language may prefer one type of name over another. A feudal naming habit is used sometimes in other languages: the French sometimes refer to Aristotle as "le Stagirite" from one spelling of his place of birth, and English speakers often refer to Shakespeare as "The Bard", recognizing him as a paragon writer of the language. Also, claims to preference or authority can be refuted: the British did not refer to Louis-Napoleon as Napoleon III during his rule.

Join K Money Mastery 2.0 here: http://www.kmoneymastery.com In this video Stefan answers a question he commonly gets such as if one can publish a Kindle book under a pen name. "Very common in the publishing industry pen name also known as a pseudo name, it's basically a made-up name. This is very common especially amongst the fiction market, fiction authors and publishers. Mark Twain is probably the most famous pen name or made-up name out there. When you publish your Kindle book in KDP it gives you the option of selecting the contributor for your book so you can input whatever author name you want. You can make up an author name that's totally fine and acceptable." ★☆★ VIEW THE BLOG POST: ★☆★ http://projectlifemastery.com/can-i-publish-kindle-books-under-a-pen-name ★☆★ SUBSCRIBE TO...

Author Question: "I struggle with privacy issues. I'm not sure about using my real name or a pen name. Thoughts?" Short Answer: Yes, but be sure to get the copyright under your pen name as well. I also discuss the tips I wrote about in this article: http://www.killerbookmarketing.com/3-ways-protect-privacy-author/ and creation of a corporation to further separate private identity from your writing business. The book I am holding in the video is "Everything Forbidden" by (my wife) Jess Michaels.
How to make a simple wooden pen with your name burnt on it! I demonstrate how I make a simple, twist pen on the lathe and use a pyrography tool to burn a friends name on it. A great starter project for someone new to wood turning and/or pyrography and a great skill builder. Woods used: Black Walnut & Padauk. Tools: mini lathe, saw, pen mandrel, chisels, sand paper, pyrography tool. Finish: Beeswax - though friction wax or CA glue would be better (this is all I had at the time of the video!) Be careful and exercise caution in the workshop. Wear eye protection and a dust mask and be sure to clean up as you go! I am in no way affiliated with any of the brands featured in the video. The great author told us that “William Shakespeare” was a pseudonym in Venus and Adonis and in his sonnets. Several of his contemporaries believed this, too, as related in printed references, and by including a hyphen in the surname. With an Oxfordian perspective, this paper will try to answer why the great author chose “William Shakespeare” as a pen name, and present evidence of its existence before its 1593 print debut. A talk given at the 2015 Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship Conference in Ashland, OR. Katherine Chiljan has studied the Shakespeare authorship question for over 30 years. In 2011, she wrote Shakespeare Suppressed: the Uncensored Truth about Shakespeare and his Works which earned her an award for distinguished scholarship at Concordia University (2012). A former editor of ...

The Gift of the Magi O. Henry (a pen name for William Sydney Porter) "The Gift of the Magi" is a short story, written by O. Henry (a pen name for William Sydney Porter), about a young married couple and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. As a sentimental story with a moral lesson about gift-giving, it has been a popular one for adaptation, especially for presentation at Christmas time. The plot and its "twist ending" are well-known, and the ending is generally considered an example of comic irony. It was allegedly written at Pete's Tavern[2][3] on Irving Place in New York City. The story was initially published in The New York Sunday World under the title "Gifts of the Magi" on December 10, 1905. It was first published ...
