I haven't seen writing credits for "Not At All," but to my ears it sounds like Hope's style of melody & lyrics. Dirt Blue Gene is comprised of the same musicians as have been in Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions, but minus Hope & Colm. "Not At All" is attributed to Dirt Blue Gene (with Hope), but the musicians on it are just three: Hope, Colm (on vibes) , & DBG's Charles Cullen on guitar. The song could easily fit on a HD&TWI album! Hope's also credited as appearing on two songs by Le Volume Courbe on the album, "I Killed My Best Friend." Hope doesn't sing though but plays glockenspiel. Those songs aren't included here. "Angels' Share" was recorded in Hope's and Colm's home studio in San Francisco along with the rest the "Vetiver" album. Colm plays percussion on some songs. Vetiver asked Hope to sing on one song. "Angels Share" was her favourite, so she sang back up on it. Hope and William Reid of JAMC were a couple in the years the two JAMC collabs were recorded. Hope's band Mazzy Star opened for JAMC on a 1994 tour and Hope would come onstage during JAMC's set to sing "Sometimes Always." Hope and David of Mazzy Star were friends with Bert Jansch who plays guitar on several other songs on Hope & Mazzy albums. The official video for the song "Paradise Circus," released 2009 is not a traditional music video. Instead, it's a mini-documentary that uses the song as its soundtrack/theme song. It's a documentary of an interesting interview with retired porn star Georgina Spelvin and includes hardcore clips from her 1973 "porn classic" "The Devil in Miss Jones." So, it's an XXX-rated video, but one Hope approved for release and says she likes.
