Plot: Like Father portrays a family in crisis, focusing on the dislocations of grandfather, father and son. Pigeon man Arthur Elliott, a 70 year-old whose working life in the pit gave him a strong sense of identity and pride, is losing his allotment to the local authority's coastal redevelopment scheme. Working as a trumpet player, a teacher and a club singer, as well as running an agency for club acts, 40 year old, ex-miner, Joe Elliott can just about scrape a living out of his music, but he is losing his wife. 10 year old Michael Elliott, who is living with the pit village folklore and the wreckage of the coal industry, is left to grapple with his own realities. Each of the three generations is struggling to come to terms with the past and find the ties that bind them. The three separate, but essentially integrated worlds, unfold against the rich and extraordinary backdrop of East Durham's landscapes and locations. It is the second film in Amber's coalfield trilogy. The Scar (1997) explored the lives of women in the aftermath of the failed Miners' Strike of 1984, and the closure of Durham's last pit in 1993. The third film, Shooting Magpies (2005) looks at the post-industrial generation, and the impacts of heroin in the colliery villages of East Durham. Development of Like Father began in 1998. Its dramatic content originated from actual lives and the unfolding of real events. Incorporating documentary situations, the film features strong performances from both professional and non-professional actors alike. Strongly committed to nurturing latent natural talent, Amber took the bold step of casting local people with no previous acting experience in each of the three main roles: Ned Kelly as Arthur; Jonathon Dent as Michael; and Joe Armstrong, who himself an ex-miner, plays Joe, and wrote the brass band suite which features in the film as a commission for his character.

Plot: Lt. Commander Data was taking part in an operation the Federation has with a race known as the Son'a to observe another race known as the Ba'ku. They are wearing stealth suits so that the Ba'ku cannot see them. But suddenly, Data rips off his stealth suit, reveals himself and exposes everyone. Picard is them contacted by Admiral Dougherty who tells Picard that Data has to be stopped even if it means destroying him. Picard requests permission to try and stop him without doing that, he succeeds. He then tries to find out what happened to Data. That's when they discover a plot by the Son'a and the Federation to remove the Ba'ku from the planet because they want to tap the radiation being emitted by the nearby planet's rings which have regenerative properties. Picard then airs his objections to Dougherty who tells him that everything they are doing is within the Federation guidelines. That's when Picard steps down as Captain and decides to help the Ba'ku. Data, Crusher, Worf and Troi join him, while Riker and LaForge try to get the Federation to reconsider. When Ru'afo, the leader of the Son'a, learns of what Picard is doing, he decides to remove the Ba'ku even if it means eliminating them.

Captain Picard: Do you remember when we used to be explorers?
Captain Picard: Ru'afo, we're getting too old for this.::Ad'har Ru'afo: After today, that won't be a problem... for either of us.

Quotes:
Miss Mary Raines: You heard what the Father said. There's no future for what you joined except hell.::Detective James McParlan: Well I'm a miner now. I'll be traveling in that direction anyway, just out of habit.
Davies: Don't get confused about which side you're on.::Detective James McParlan: I could always tell the buttered side from the dry.
Jack Kehoe: I'm thinking... you'd better be what we think you are.::Detective James McParlan: I'm what you think!::Jack Kehoe: 'Cause if you're not... there's no hole deep enough to hide this time.
Davies: Yes, I need them caught in the act... no chance of an alibi. And not just two of them. I want the organisation. I want it smashed. Any bastard who even dreams of making trouble, I want him to wake up sweating blood at what happened to the Molly Maguires. [McParlan starts to leave] Not yet! I can't send you away unmarked. [he floors McParlan with his truncheon]::Detective James McParlan: [bleeding] Well... it's a pleasure working with a man who likes his job.
Detective James McParlan: Dougherty, then? You've time enough for that. He's not hanged yet.::Jack Kehoe: You're a cool one.::Detective James McParlan: That's the difference between us, Jack.::Jack Kehoe: I have no coolness in me at all.
[Davies has given McParlan a beating, as part of his cover]::Davies: They'll respect you now. It's about the only thing they do respect round here, a blow and a hard head.
