Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (also known as Dirty Dancing 2 or Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights) is a 2004 American musical romance film directed by Guy Ferland. This film is a "re-imagining" of the 1987 blockbuster Dirty Dancing, reusing the same basic plot, but transplanting it from upstate New York to Cuba on the cusp of the Cuban Revolution.
In 1958, Katey Miller (Romola Garai), her parents (Sela Ward and John Slattery), and her younger sister Susie (Mika Boorem) arrive in Cuba during the Cuban revolution. A self-described bookworm, Katey is not very happy about having to move to a different country during her senior year of high school, as she had been planning to attend Radcliffe College, although the rest of her family seem extremely pleased to be in Cuba. Meeting several other rich American teenagers down by the pool, including James Phelps (Jonathan Jackson), the son of her father's boss, Katey becomes disgusted when one of the teenagers insults a local waiter when he accidentally knocks over some of their drinks. Katey attempts to talk to the waiter—Javier (Diego Luna), who works at the hotel to support his family—because she feels awful about what had occurred but he is not interested.
Dirty Dancing is a 1987 American romantic drama film. Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the film stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the lead roles, as well as Cynthia Rhodes and Jerry Orbach.
Originally a low-budget film by a new studio, Great American Films Limited Partnership, and with no major stars (except Broadway legend Orbach in a supporting role), Dirty Dancing became a massive box office hit. As of 2009, it has earned over $214 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack created by Jimmy Ienner generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. The film's popularity led to a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, as well as a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America.
Romola Sadie Garai (/ˈrɒmələ ˈseɪdi ˈɡæri/; born 6 August 1982) is an English actress. She is known for appearing in the films Amazing Grace, Atonement, and Glorious 39, and in BBC series such as Emma, The Hour, and The Crimson Petal and the White. She has been nominated twice for a Golden Globe Award.
Garai was born in Hong Kong to British parents. Her mother, Janet A. (née Brown), raised Romola and her three siblings and her father, Adrian E. R. Garai, is a bank manager. Her first name is the female version of the Italian name Romolo, from Romulus, one of the founders of Rome. Romola is also the main character of George Eliot's novel of the same name. Her father's family were of Jewish immigrant background. Garai's great-grandfather, Bernhard "Bert" Garai, an immigrant from Hungary, founded the Keystone Press Agency, a photographic agency and archive, in London, in the early twentieth century.
Garai is the third of four siblings. She moved to Singapore at five, before her family returned to Wiltshire in England when she was eight. She attended an independent boarding school, Stonar School in Wiltshire, and later moved at sixteen to London to attend the City of London School for Girls, where she completed her A-levels. She was fond of drama and appeared in school plays, and also with the National Youth Theatre up until the age of eighteen, where she was spotted by an agent who signed her to play the younger version of Dame Judi Dench's character in the BBC Films/HBO co-production for television, The Last of the Blonde Bombshells.

Guy Ferland (born February 18, 1966) is an American film and television director.
After Alfred Hitchcock's 1946 film Notorious inspired him to become a filmmaker, Ferland went on to study cinema production at the University of Southern California's School of Cinema and Television, graduating in 1988, and received an internship working as a researcher at Creative Artists Agency. He landed a job as film director Joel Schumacher's assistant three days after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree and in five years, until 1994, he worked with Schumacher on Cousins, Flatliners, If Looks Could Kill, Dying Young, Falling Down and The Client, receiving an associate producer credit in the last. He then moved on to write and direct his first own film, The Babysitter, in 1995 and in 1997 directed Telling Lies in America, which was commended for Excellence in Filmmaking by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures. After directing and producing Delivered, he began to direct for television, starting with Our Guys: Outrage at Glen Ridge, an American Broadcasting Company made-for-television movie. He also directed the award-winning television movies After the Storm and Bang, Bang, You're Dead in 2001 and 2002 respectively. After the Storm was named Best Feature Film at the 2000 New York International Independent Film and Video Festival and Ferland was individually commeded on the realism he brought to the film with underwater photography, while he was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Directing in a Children's Special and a Directors Guild of America Award in the category of Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs for Bang Bang You're Dead in 2003.
