Video footage taken at 'Renosterpan', a small watering hole just off the tarred route between Malelane gate and Afsaal rest stop, in the southern part of the Kruger National Park on 7th July 2015.
Through sheer dumb luck we arrived at the watering hole just as a single wild dog chased a female impala into the mud. It took us a minute to get our camera organised, but we managed to capture the most amazing kill my wife and I have ever seen.
Please excuse the shaky camera and odd bit of dodgy commentary, we were excited. :)

An incredible sighting of a swimming impala stranded in a dam by a pack of painted hunting dogs. Eventually the impala swims to the shore to rest but the ravenous wild dog pack soon gets their breakfast! The pack manages to drag the impala along the edge of the water and start ripping it apart before it is killed.

A free-ranging dog is any dog that is not contained. The term encompasses various loose categories relating to the ownership, behavior, and descent of such dogs, including wild dogs, feral dogs, stray dogs, street dogs, and village dogs, as well as dogs allowed to come and go freely by their owners. It sometimes overlaps with the polysemic term pariah dog. The term is used when distinctions of ownership are irrelevant.
Ecologists find it important at times to distinguish among urban free-ranging dogs, rural free-ranging dogs, and feral or wild dogs. The distinction can be important as the ecological impact of, and evolutionary pressures on, the two groups can be quite different.
Rural free-ranging dogs that rarely if ever leave a settlement are called village dogs. They are considered neither wild nor feral, and have less impact on the surrounding ecosystem than other rural free-ranging dogs. They pose a different set of environmental pressures than feral or wild dogs, or even free-ranging farm dogs. Experts on the behavior of early and primitive dogs have also noted interesting physical and behavioral differences between village dogs and other more feral free-ranging dogs. For example, village dogs tend to be smaller and to be found more often alone or in pairs.

We witnessed an amazing moment here in the Moremi Game Reserve- Botswana one morning in Sept 2009 of mum giving birth with the foal kicking and being dragged along the African plains! @ 2.22 mins into the video it's "Happy birthday" time! The little foal was up and walking in just over 5 mins. We became a little concerned when the now two started to move in the direction of a pack of 10 Wild Dogs, however mum is able to drop the after birth at the most opportune time and the last minute or so of this video, you can see the WD pack scrapping over the spoils of the placenta! We saw mum & foal a few times over the next week and both were doing very well. A very memorable and unforgettable experience. (Apologies for the lack of audio in the first half of this video.) -

SOLO, THE LONE WILD DOG VS HYENA
The story of Solo the Lone Wild dog is very sad. It is believed the rest of her pack were killed by lions, leaving her alone to fend for herself. Solo has just made an impala kill and is fighting off a hyena that has shown up and is trying to steal the carcass. When a second hyena shows up Solo knows she is beaten and gives up the fight. The two hyenas drag the carcass off and devour it within minutes.

Video footage taken at 'Renosterpan', a small watering hole just off the tarred route between Malelane gate and Afsaal rest stop, in the southern part of the Kruger National Park on 7th July 2015.
Through sheer dumb luck we arrived at the watering hole just as a single wild dog chased a female impala into the mud. It took us a minute to get our camera organised, but we managed to capture the most amazing kill my wife and I have ever seen.
Please excuse the shaky camera and odd bit of dodgy commentary, we were excited. :)

We witnessed an amazing moment here in the Moremi Game Reserve- Botswana one morning in Sept 2009 of mum giving birth with the foal kicking and being dragged along the African plains!
@ 2.22 mins into the video it's "Happy birthday" time!
The little foal was up and walking in just over 5 mins.
We became a little concerned when the now two started to move in the direction of a pack of 10 Wild Dogs, however mum is able to drop the after birth at the most opportune time and the last minute or so of this video, you can see the WD pack scrapping over the spoils of the placenta!
We saw mum & foal a few times over the next week and both were doing very well.
A very memorable and unforgettable experience.

Tom Varney is a former psychotic criminal who later found God and devoted himself to serving his fellow man. In a strange twist of morality, this led to his life's work: shooting wild dogs. The Australian wild dog is a hybrid of the native dingo and larger domestic breeds. The resulting "super dog" is bigger, smarter, and much more vicious. Roaming in packs, they've been known to massacre entire flocks of sheep and bring down animals as large as horses, causing millions of dollars in damage each year. While animal control agencies favor trapping and baiting them, farmers argue that nothing is as effective as a bullet to the head. That's where Tom comes in. He's pretty much retired now, but his methods (including his ability to call dogs up to him by mimicking their howls) have formed the blueprint for a new generation of dog hunters.
Hannah Brooks from VICE Australia sat down with Tom to talk shooting, howling, and who's more bloodthirsty: wild dogs or YouTube commenters.

It's a jungle out there. Particularly when you are shaping up to be today's 'special' on the waterhole lunch menu.
In an astonishing video shot on the African savanna, a pack of seriously hungry Wild Dogs and a lone crocodile lurking just below the water's surface, have cornered a warthog.
Now, if you are the prey in this particular scenario - dish of the day for some of animal kingdom's most vicious predators - you already know there is no escape
The Wild Dogs are already licking their lips at the prospect of warthog, served extremely rare. But the crocodile in the YouTube video seems almost casual to the point of disinterest.
Both sets of hunters have an enviable strike rate in this situation, even though crocodiles eat very rarely and Wild Dogs tend to hunt alone or in pairs
The crocodile finally makes its move, lunging forward with its tail and hind legs, jaws open, to grab the warthog
The disappointed Wild Dogs can only look on as the crocodile pulls the warthog down with its powerful jaws and drags the prey off for lunch. The 'dish of the day' is off guys
