Whittlesea Area

You might say that the region outside the metropolitan area within Victoria was whittled down in order to create one city. Two areas that used to be Whittlesea and Epping were merged together in 1915 to create one local government. This created the City of Whittlesea.

This area is located approximately 20 kilometres from the capital of Victoria, Melbourne and its central business district. The location of the Whittlesea Area is over 150,000 residents. This area is comprised of less than 20 suburbs, with roughly half being urban and half rural.

The lower suburbs of the Whittlesea Area are by far more urban in nature, while the northern suburbs are more characteristically rural. One of the largest cities, Epping, is known for its football, gold, cricket, basketball and tennis clubs. Convenient commuting to the city is possible via railway lines and bus routes.
