Launceston Area

Located in the state of Tasmania (off the mainland of Australia), Launceston is the state's second biggest city behind the capital, Hobart. It is also actually Australia's ninth largest city, not including the capitals. As one of Australia's oldest town, it of course has numerous historic buildings and has several 'firsts' to its name. For instance, it was the first place in the Southern Hemisphere to use anesthetic and was the first Australian town to create a sewer system that was underground.

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) its situated in Launceston as is the biggest of its kind outside of Australia's capital cities. It was established in 1891 and is spread across two sites. The QVMAG has an incredible collection of zoology, highly regarded, colonial art and much more. It experiences very distinct weather patterns in its four seasons and is generally a cool, temperate climate.
