Dhubri
Dhubri (Pron: ˈdʊbri) is the headquarter of Dhubri district (Assam) India. It is an old town on the bank of the Brahmaputra and Gadadhar rivers, with historical significances. In 1883, the town was first constituted as a Municipal Board. It is situated about 280 kilometres (174 mi) west from Guwahati, the state capital.
Dhubri was an important commercial centre and had a busy river port particularly for jute. Dhubri is called the "Land of Rivers" as it is covered three sides by rivers.
History
The word Dhuburi comes from a legendary lady named Netai-Dhubuni. The story is connected with Behula-Lakhindar. The word Dhubuni is considered a corruption of 'Dhuburi'. According to Bodo-Kacharis, the word is of Bodo origin and derived from Dubra, a kind of grass. The story of lady Netai-Dhubuni is widely accepted for the naming history of Dhubri and that is where the Gurdwara Sri Tegh Bahadur Sahib stands.
This place is famous for the Sikh Gurdwara Gurdwara Damdama Sahib or Thara Sahib which was constructed in memory of visit of First Sikh Guru Nanak Dev and later it was followed by visit of Ninth guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur and the Gurdwara is named as Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. Hence, it has great importance for Sikh community.

I travelled to the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya back in 2012. At that time, it was monsoon and here I was in wettest region on the earth. It was a world completely different from the one I live in. Not only was it green all around but there was also an exemplary amalgamation of the true beauty that nature has to offer and human lives. I then knew that I will come back and keep coming back here. Last month, I got a chance to go there again and live a few days in some of the most remote places within the Khasi Hills. When you are out there in the open, the rulebook of society becomes irrelevant and you inch closer to self discovery. Meghalaya Alive! An adventurous bike trip to this seldom explored state helped us to connect with nature and our inner selves, in a way that the memories shall remain etched in our brain and soul forever. Separating the Assam valley from the plains of Bangladesh, hilly Meghalaya – the ‘abode of clouds’ – is a cool, pine-fresh mountain state set on dramatic horseshoes of rocky cliffs. An adventurous bike trip to this seldom explored state helped us to connect with nature and our inner selves, in a way that the memories shall remain etched in our brain and soul forever. This journey took us to some brilliant valleys, virgin forests, gushing waterfalls and almost near the clouds. This video is our tribute to the Majestic Meghalaya and its people!

Route : Guwahati- Jowai- Amlarem- Dawki- Umiam- Guwahati.
Total Distance Covered- 410 kms. This is part 1 of the ride, part 2 will be coming shortly.

New Delhi. Rain fury continued in several parts of the country with 12 more deaths reported today even as the flood situation remained grim in Assam though it improved slightly in Odisha ... Four rain-related deaths were reported in Assam, three in Gujarat, ...
