Koreshan State Historic Site
The Koreshan State Historic Site is a state park in Lee County, Florida located on U.S. Highway 41 at Corkscrew Road. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 4, 1976 under the designation of Koreshan Unity Settlement Historic District.
It contains areas of pine flatwoods habitat and the site of a religious colony, the Koreshan Unity, whose last members deeded the land to the state in 1961. Recent aerial video footage of the site.
Flora
The Koreshans imported a wide range of plant species from across the world, including: a Araucaria bidwillii (false monkey puzzle) tree, which is indigenous to Queensland, Australia, and drops seed pods as large as a football, a number of sausage trees, which are native to Africa and a favored food of giraffes, eucalyptus, mango and other fruit bearing trees, an extraordinary amount of Japanese bamboo that originally hails from the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, and many flowering trees and plants of a wide variety.

Historic site
A historic site or heritage site is an official location where pieces of political, military, cultural, or social history have been preserved due to their cultural heritage value. Historic sites are usually protected by law, and many have been recognized with the official national historic site status. A historic site may be any building, landscape, site or structure that is of local, regional, or national significance.
Historic sites may be thought of in three broad categories:
Historic site visitors
Historic sites and heritage sites are often maintained for members of the public to be able to visit. Visitors may come out of a sense of nostalgia for bygone eras, out of wishing to learn about their cultural heritage, or general interest in learning about the historical context of the site. Many sites offer guided tours for visitors, conducted by site staff who have been trained to offer an interpretation of life at the time the site represents. A site may also have a visitor center with more modern architecture and facilities, which serves as a gateway between the outside world and the historic site, and allows visitors to learn some of the historical aspects of the site without excessively exposing locations that may require delicate treatment.

Visiting Fort Bowie National Historic Site in Arizona
Fort Bowie National Historic Site is pretty unique in America's National Park System. Located in Southeastern Arizona, Fort Bowie can only be visited on foot (with exceptions for people unable to physically hike to the site), with a mile and a half hike to get to the ruins of the fort and the park's visitor center. But the hike really adds to the experience as you get to see where so much history happened on your journey. On the hike to Fort Bowie, you see where the Bascom Affair happened (which started over two decades of war between the U.S. and the Apaches), the old post cemetery, the location of the Battle of Apache Pass, ruins of a Butterfield Overland Stage Station, Apache Springs, and of course the Fort Bowie ruins. Fort Bowie National Historic Site is pretty unique in America's National Park System. Located in Southeastern Arizona, Fort Bowie can only be visited on foot (with exceptions for people unable to physically hike to the site), with a mile and a half hike to get to the ruins of the fort and the park's visitor center. But the hike really adds to the experience as you get to see where so much history happened on your journey. On the hike to Fort Bowie, you see where the Bascom Affair happened (which started over two decades of war between the U.S. and the Apaches), the old post cemetery, the location of the Battle of Apache Pass, ruins of a Butterfield Overland Stage Station, Apache Springs, and of course the Fort Bowie ruins. Not to mention you can stand in the same spots that legends of the American west such as Cochise and Geronimo once stood.
Visiting Fort Bowie National Historic Site is well worth the trip and a great way to spend half a day.

The city of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in the first century AD as the Roman colony of Lugdunum, and has had several distinct periods of history. Just walking around the city, you can see clear traces of Roman history, medieval history, Renaissance history, Baroque history, and early modern history as well. It's a fascinating city with an intriguing past, come along as we go exploring!

Koreshan State Historic Site
The Koreshan State Historic Site is a state park in Lee County, Florida located on U.S. Highway 41 at Corkscrew Road. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 4, 1976 under the designation of Koreshan Unity Settlement Historic District.
It contains areas of pine flatwoods habitat and the site of a religious colony, the Koreshan Unity, whose last members deeded the land to the state in 1961. Recent aerial video footage of the site.
Flora
The Koreshans imported a wide range of plant species from across the world, including: a Araucaria bidwillii (false monkey puzzle) tree, which is indigenous to Queensland, Australia, and drops seed pods as large as a football, a number of sausage trees, which are native to Africa and a favored food of giraffes, eucalyptus, mango and other fruit bearing trees, an extraordinary amount of Japanese bamboo that originally hails from the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, and many flowering trees and plants of a wide variety.
