Ricky Stuart (born 7 January 1967 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian rugby league football coach, a former player of the 1980s and 90s and the current head coach of the Canberra Raiders rugby league team. He was also the head coach of the New South Wales State of Origin team, having replaced Craig Bellamy following a fifth consecutive failure in the 2010 series. Stuart had previously been coach of the Australian national side, and has coached National Rugby League clubs, the Sydney Roosters (taking them to three consecutive grand finals from 2002–2004), Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and the Parramatta Eels.
A former international representative rugby league and rugby union player – a dual-code international – Stuart also played State of Origin for New South Wales in the first Gould era. At club level, Stuart was the half-back of the "Green Machine", the Canberra Raiders team that won three premierships in 1989, 1990 and 1994 and were runners-up in 1991 who were coached by Tim Sheens. As a player Stuart was noted for his ability to throw long, spiralling passes to both the left and right sides of the field.
In my opinion the best passer of a rugby ball to have played the game. With his background as a half in rugby union ( captain at schools and U21 levels for Australia, he switched codes in 1988 after one game for the Wallabies at senior level), Ricky had a passing game that had a massive influence on how rugby league is played today. The spiral pass, now commonplace, was virtually absent in league until ricky used it as a successful tactic, (3 Premierships 4 state of origin series wins in 5 years ) . Wally Lewis did use it occasionally but not left to right, and not to such devastating effect. this highlights package shows the Green Machine in full flight, the way they swung the ball across the field was truly revolutionary. have a look at league highlights before 1988 and you'll see a d...

Darren Britt and Robert Relf start the set off with a monster hit, Roosters lose the ball next tackle and the Bulldogs chew up the clock. The Ricky Stuart Respite Centre officially opens today. The centre, to be named “Ricky Stuart House”, is the first respite house based in Canberra. The centre caters for children aged five to twelve who have autism or other disabilities and is located in the suburb of Chifley. Plans are already afoot for a second centre, suitable for teenagers. The centre will be operated by Marymead, and will provide short term respite for families with children with disability.
