Trooping the Colour is a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies. It has been a tradition of British infantry regiments since the 17th century, although the roots go back much earlier. On battlefields, a regiment's colours, or flags, were used as rallying points. Consequently, regiments would have their ensigns slowly march with their colours between the soldiers' ranks to enable soldiers to recognise their regiments' colours.
Since 1748 Trooping the Colour has also marked the official birthday of the British sovereign. It is held in London annually on a Saturday in June on Horse Guards Parade by St. James's Park, and coincides with the publication of the Birthday Honours List. Among the audience are the Royal Family, invited guests, ticketholders and the general public. The colourful ceremony, also known as "The Queen's Birthday Parade", is broadcast live by the BBC within the UK and is telecast also in Germany and Belgium.
The Queen travels down The Mall from Buckingham Palace in a royal procession with a sovereign's escort of Household Cavalry (mounted troops or horse guards). After receiving a royal salute, she inspects her troops of the Household Division, both foot guards and horse guards, and the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. Each year, one of the foot-guards regiments is selected to troop its colour through the ranks of guards. Then the entire Household Division assembly conducts a march past the Queen, who receives a salute from the saluting base. Parading with its guns, the King's Troop takes precedence as the mounted troops perform a walk-march and trot-past.
The Queen's Official Birthday, or King's Official Birthday in the reign of a male monarch, is the selected day in some Commonwealth realms on which the birthday of the monarch (currently Queen Elizabeth II) is officially celebrated in those countries.
The sovereign's birthday was first officially marked in the United Kingdom in 1748, for King George II. Since then, the date of the king or queen's birthday has been determined throughout the British Empire and later the Commonwealth according to either different royal proclamations issued by the sovereign or governor or by statute laws passed by the local parliament. The date of the celebration today varies as adopted by each country and is generally set around the end of May to start of June, to coincide with a high probability of fine weather in the Northern Hemisphere for outdoor ceremonies, rather than with the monarch's actual birthday, that of the present monarch being 21 April. In some cases, it is an official public holiday, sometimes aligning with the celebration of other events. Most Commonwealth realms release a Queen's Birthday Honours list at this time.
A parade (also called march or marchpast) is a procession of people, usually organized along a street, often in costume, and often accompanied by marching bands, floats or sometimes large balloons. Parades are held for a wide range of reasons, but are usually celebrations of some kind. In Britain the term parade is usually reserved for either military parades or other occasions where participants march in formation; for celebratory occasions the word procession is more usual. In the Canadian Forces the term also has several less formal connotations.
Protest demonstrations can also take the form of a parade, but such cases are usually referred to as a march instead.
The parade float got its name because the first floats were decorated barges that were towed along canals with ropes held by parade marchers on the shore. Floats were occasionally propelled from within by concealed oarsmen, but the practice was abandoned because of the high incidence of drowning when the lightweight and unstable frames capsized. Strikingly, among the first uses of grounded floats — towed by horses — was a ceremony in memory of recently drowned parade oarsmen. Today, parade floats are traditionally pulled by motor vehicles or powered themselves.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte steal the show at Trooping the Colour parade. The spectacular Trooping the Colour military parade got underway in London, as the royal Household Division turns out to celebrate the 91st birthday of the monarch, Queen Elizabeth. The centuries-old tradition sees 1400 troops from the Queen’s personal division, 400 musicians and 200 horses parade from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to the Horse Guards Parade and Whitehall before they return to Buckingham Palace to offer a salute to the Sovereign. The Queen, who until 1987 rode sidesaddle in the parade, attended in an opened-topped carriage, joined by her husband Prince Philip, 96. She will lead the parade back to Buckingham Palace. During the festivities this weekend, which celebrate the Queen’s official birthday, Prince Harry won’t be riding horseback alongside his father, Prince Charles, and brother, Prince William. Instead, he’ll likely be seated in one of the many carriages that carry the members of the royal family to Buckingham Palace, in the annual event’s traditional parade. In years past, he’s sat in the same carriage as Princess Kate and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

SHERIDAN, Wyo. — The Centennial Theater here is about the last place in America you would expect to see the world premiere of Prince's new movie "Under the Cherry Moon." This town of 10,369 in north-central Wyoming is composed mainly of cowboys, coal miners and retirees. Just a handful of blacks live here. But Hollywood and the media descended upon Sheridan earlier this week when 20-year-old hotel worker Lisa Barber--the lucky 10,000th caller in a contest sponsored by MTV and Warner Bros.--won the premiere and a post-premiere party for her town. She got to invite 200 of her closest friends to The Event attended by Prince and his Hollywood entourage and another 300. "This is the biggest thing that's ever happened here," said an excited Barber at the post-premiere party. "I love Prince. I...

This morning there was joy in my heart 4 I know that I love U so
Scrambled eggs are so boring 4 U're all, all that I wanna know
Kisses never lie when delivered with milk from your lips
Morning glories (never) cry, my love 4 U, baby, drips
Oh, life can be so nice
It's a wonderful world, sweet paradise
Kiss me once, kiss me twice
Life can be so nice, so nice
Life can be so nice
No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart
I come a thousand different ways before I even start
U're so nice
Shivering madly in your embrace is better than a trip
