Do Me!

"Do Me!" is a song by hip hop/R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe. The song was released in 1990 as the second single from the group's multi-platinum debut album, Poison. A remix is included on the group's WBBD-Bootcity!: The Remix Album, released in 1991.

Release and reception

In June 1990, "Do Me!" entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at number 92. In September, the song reached number three, tying previous single "Poison" as Bell Biv DeVoe's biggest hit on the pop charts. The song remained on the Hot 100 for 22 weeks. Elsewhere, the single peaked at number 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number 6 on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The song ranked number 11 on the Billboard Year-End chart for 1990.

Legacy

Davitt Sigerson called the song a "landmark in priapic obsession," and added, "[i]f the true spirit of the male love jones could speak, its words would be B.B.D.'s: 'Slap it up, flip it, rub it down, oh no!'" The song makes reference to Swatch watches, a popular accessory of the 1980s.

Do Me, Baby

"Do Me, Baby" is a Prince ballad from his 4th album, Controversy written by Prince. It was released as the third and final U.S. single from the album. With a running time of almost eight minutes, it is the longest track on the album.

Cover version

The single did not chart until a cover version by R&B singer Meli'sa Morgan was released as the lead single from her debut album of the same name. In 1986, Morgan's version went to number one on Billboard's R&B Singles chart, and number forty-six on the Billboard Hot 100.

It was used as a sample in the late hip hop legend 2Pac single To Live & Die in L.A..

Infant

An infant (from the Latin word infans, meaning "unable to speak" or "speechless") is the very young offspring of a human or animal. When applied to humans, the term is usually considered synonymous with baby or bairn (in Scottish English), but the latter is commonly applied to the young of any animal. When a human child learns to walk, the term toddler may be used instead.

The term infant is typically applied to young children between the ages of 1 month and 12 months; however, definitions may vary between birth and 1 year of age, or even between birth and 2 years of age. Prince

A prince is a male ruler, monarch, or member of a monarch's or former monarch's family. Prince is also a hereditary title in the nobility of some European states. The feminine equivalent is a princess. The English word derives, via the French word prince, from the Latin noun princeps, from primus (first) + capio (to seize), meaning "the chief, most distinguished, ruler, prince".

Historical background

The Latin word prīnceps (older Latin *prīsmo-kaps, literally "the one who takes the first [place/position]"), became the usual title of the informal leader of the Roman senate some centuries before the transition to empire, the princeps senatus.

Emperor Augustus established the formal position of monarch on the basis of principate, not dominion. He also tasked his grandsons as summer rulers of the city when most of the government were on holiday in the country or attending religious rituals, and, for that task, granted them the title of princeps.

Lucky Strike

Lucky Strike is an American brand of cigarettes owned by the British American Tobacco groups. Often referred to as "Luckies", Lucky Strike was the top-selling cigarette brand in the United States during the 1930s. Lucky Strikes now have developed a "cult" following, with many people who smoked Lucky Strikes in their youth continuing to seek them out.

Name

Lucky Strike brand was introduced in 1871 by the company R.A. Patterson in the USA as chewing tobacco (many sources mention Matt Tellman as the founder of Luckies, but significant information about him does not exist). The founder of Luckies was inspired by the era's rush for gold searching. Only some of the gold diggers (about four out of 1000) were fortunate enough to find gold and this was often referred to as a lucky strike. By choosing this expression as the product's name, it meant consumers who were choosing the brand were lucky, as they were choosing a top-quality blend. Lucky Strike was a brand of chewing tobacco, and by the early 1900s, it had evolved into a cigarette.
