Mark Waid (born March 21, 1962) is an Eisner Award-winning American comic book writer, known for his work on titles for DC Comics such as The Flash, Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, and for his work on Captain America for Marvel Comics. From August 2007 to December 2010, Waid served as Editor-in-Chief, and later, Chief Creative Officer of Boom! Studios, where he wrote titles such as Irredeemable, Incorruptible, and The Traveler.
Waid was born in Hueytown, Alabama. He has stated that his comics work was heavily influenced by Adventure Comics #369–370 (1968), the two-part "Legion of Superheroes" story by Jim Shooter and Mort Weisinger that introduced the villain Mordru, "It's a blueprint for everything I write."
Waid entered the comics field during the mid-1980s as an editor and writer on Fantagraphics Books' comic book fan magazine, Amazing Heroes. Waid's first comic book story "The Puzzle of the Purloined Fortress", an eight-page Superman story, was published in Action Comics #572 (Oct. 1985).

Comic book writer Mark Waid recently tweeted "every" superhero is a SJW, which is interesting given that many of these writers deny that they are political activists masquerading as writers. Check out the video and let me know what you think of Mr. Waid's claim in the comments section below.

When I first saw this article I actually couldn't believe that this was happening. People are actually going after someone who just is trying to make the world a better place. Well I'm just going to talk and say my piece and stick up for a great comic book writer and decent human being. If you don't agree with what I have to say that's fine. Tell me in the comments and I'll promise you I'll read it. I read all my comments. Thanks for watching the video and hopefully someday, even though I said in the video its impossible, we can get over ourselves and live like human beings. This week, a reader wants to know just what the big deal is about Mark Waid's run on Flash in the '90s, and, as tends to happen with this sort of things, that simple question sends Chris into a lecture about the history of the DC Universe and the underlying themes, with an argument that Flash is the third most important character in DC History. This year, at C2E2, I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the comic industry’s current giants, Mark Waid. Though we did not have a great deal of time to chat, Waid answered a great deal of my unanswered questions regarding his projects with Marvel. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get anything out of him regarding the new Wasp, but maybe you can decode some hints regarding CIVIL WAR II! You may recognize Waid from the critically acclaimed DAREDEVIL series he penned, of which the entire creative team has accompanied Waid to work on the new BLACK WIDOW series. The current run of BLACK WIDOW is produced in accordance with the Marvel method, meaning that artist Chris Samnee has a hand in the book’s writing process. Despite sharing the exact same creative team, BLACK WIDOW is a l...
