With so many travel options just outside of the city it is easy to forget that Cuzco has a lot to offer in and of itself. The following Cusco travel guide is our attempt to showcase what the city has to offer in terms of attractions, things to do, shopping, dining, museums and nightlife. In our opinion, you'll want to budget several days to take it all in and acclimatize to the higher altitude if you're thinking of going on hiking excursions afterwards.

If you're planning to walk the Inca Trail or visit Machu Picchu, you'll likely end up spending at least a few days in Cuzco. With it's lively square, quirky museums, artisans markets and traditional performances, this is exactly the type of destination you'll want to linger in...plus let's not forget, it's also a good place to adjust to the altitude! The following video will showcase 15 things to do in Cuzco:
Cuzco Cathedral is a place you shouldn't miss. The cathedral sits on the site of Viracocha Inca’s palace, and it was also built using blocks from the nearby Inca site of Sacsaywamán. Inside you'll find impressive works of art done in the cuzqueña style.
In the evenings, you can go watch a traditional dance performance at Centro Qosqo.
San Blas
San Blas is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Cuzco and it is a great area to explore on foot. The neighbourhood is known for its bright blue doors and window shutters, and it has a nice little square with a church and a water fountain. The neighbourhood has some really cool lookout points with great panoramic views of Cuzco, so you'll want to bring your camera.
Plaza de Armas is the beating heart of Cuzco. The square is flanked by a Jesuit church and cathedral, and there are also plenty of bars, restaurants, and tour agencies around the perimeter. During the day you'll find locals and tourists hanging out in the square, and if you get lucky, you might just encounter a performance followed by a demonstration like we did.
The Inca Museum is one of the main museums in town and it has rooms dedicated to different periods of Inca and Spanish history. You can also see women weaving rugs and tapestries by hand in the central courtyard.
Qurikancha was an Inca temple built to the Sun God, Inti, and it is believed that the walls of this temple were once covered in sheets of gold. If the temple looks like it has various layers of construction, that's because when the Spaniards arrived, they demolished the original temple and used the foundations to build the Church of Santo Domingo on the site.
The Church of the Society of Jesus is a historic Jesuit church. It's worth a quick visit if you're in the area.
Templo de la Merced is another church located one block from Plaza de Armas, and it contains the tomb of two famous conquistadors.

In 1932 an American named William Spratling revived interest in the old city's silversmith trade and today Taxco's silver and copper products can be found all over Mexico. The handwork from Taxco deserves its reputation for being consistently first rate. This silver mine is the most modern mine in Taxco
and still produces high quality ore .
Taxco's most precious jewel is undoubtedly the beautiful Santa Prisca church
considered a baroque classic. The gigantic main altar soars towards the heavens. Financed by the silver mining riches of Jose de la Borda
the inscription over his porch once read

and Borda gives to God. Taxco is one of Mexico's best-preserved colonial towns
and seems to exemplify charm as its gateways and balconies spill over with flowers of every kind. The 20th century has had little effect on Taxco
probably because it was literally cut off from the world until the first paved road reached it in 1930.

Como anfitrión de la 40 Edición del Tianguis Turístico 2015, Acapulco demostró ser la sede ideal para este evento promocional que se ha ubicado como el más importante en América Latina.
La Secretaría de Fomento Turístico de Guerrero (Sefotur) y los representantes del sector turístico capitalizaron la visita de más de 670 compradores de 65 países, quienes refrendaron su interés por Acapulco y su renovada oferta de productos, infraestructura hotelera, servicios y atractivos turísticos.
El secretario de Fomento Turístico del Estado, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares informó que durante el Tianguis Turístico se concretaron más de 150 citas de negocios, en coordinación con los organismos promocionales de Acapulco, Ixtapa–Zihuatanejo, Taxco y municipios con vocación turística del estado, quienes acordaron con mayoristas internacionales y del país para fortalecer el turismo en el estado.
Con la presencia activa del Gobernador del Estado, Rogelio Ortega Martínez y del titular de Sefotur, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares, se optimizaron los cuatro días del Tianguis Turístico, del 23 al 26 de marzo en la expo de Mundo Imperial.
Mayoristas, tour operadores, aerolíneas, agencias de servicios en línea, empresas transportadoras, excursiones, así como servicios y atractivos, vivieron la experiencia de la tradicional atención al cliente de Acapulco y Guerrero, y comprobaron la calidad en el servicio que ha hecho escuela en todo el mundo.
En su visita al Pabellón de Guerrero, la secretaria de Turismo Federal, Claudia Ruiz Massieu elogió la creatividad y representatividad de la cultura guerrerense en este sitio de servicio en el que 83 empresas de todo el estado exhibieron sus productos, infraestructura y atractivos y donde se llevaron a cabo la mayor parte de los negocios que se concretarán en 2015 y 2016.
Por su espectacular despliegue de arte y belleza arquitectónica, el Pabellón de Guerrero fue un atractivo recurrente para los miles de asistentes al Tianguis Turístico, utilizado como un escenario innovador por visitantes y medios de comunicación.
Guerrero contó con la presencia de 50 representantes de medios de comunicación nacionales e internacionales durante el Tianguis Turístico, a quienes se les enfatizó que Acapulco es un destino confiable en el que se garantiza una experiencia inolvidable por la variedad de sus productos, servicios y atractivos.
Uno de los objetivos del Tianguis para guerrero fue reafirmar que Acapulco es la sede ideal para el Tianguis Turístico y se trabajó para concretar el regreso de esta importante feria promocional para el 2017.
Durante esta importante feria turística, se firmaron programas cooperativos por el orden de los 25 millones de pesos que multiplicados a través de convenios de colaboración tripartita sumarán una inversión global de 75 millones de pesos en beneficio del Estado de Guerrero.
Dicha inversión permitirá alcanzar un incremento en las frecuencias aéreas desde mercados naturales primarios de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México, por lo que también se cumplió con el objetivo avanzar en la reactivación del mercado extranjero.
Guerrero avanzó en las negociaciones con operadores mayoristas colombianos, mercado que representa el cuarto lugar en exportación de turismo a México y que a través de la aerolínea Interjet creará un desplazamiento de ciudades como Medellín y Bogotá con una excelente conectividad hacia Acapulco
En el rubro de fomento al turismo extranjero, se aprovechó la presencia de promotores internacionales para un viaje por el estado con touroperadores y prensa a los destinos turísticos de Guerrero con 50 operadores originarios de Houston, Nueva York, Chicago, Italia y Brasil.
Con el impulso que ha dado el Gobernador Rogelio Ortega al turismo en Guerrero, se logró sentar las bases para generar turismo hacia Acapulco, destacando los mercados de Colombia, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Estados Unidos y Canadá así como el creciente mercado de la República de China a través de operadores radicados en Vancouver.
El secretario Sergio Salmerón aseguró que se dará seguimiento a todos los acuerdos y convenios que se concretaron en el Tianguis Turístico y anunció que el Gobierno del Estado, asociaciones civiles, organismos promotores y municipios seguirán trabajando sin receso hasta ubicar a Guerrero en el liderazgo del turismo mundial que le corresponde.
La Sefotur hizo gala de su clásica vocación como anfitrión para recibir la Conferencia Nacional de Gobernadores (Conago) y a los embajadores turísticos del continente en la Confederación de Organizaciones Turísticas de América Latina (COTAL) a los que se les ofreció una cena de gala en el histórico Fuerte de San Diego.

Guerrero (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡeˈreɾo]), officially Free and Sovereign State of Guerrero (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Guerrero), is one of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided in 81 municipalities and its capital city is Chilpancingo.
It is located in Southwestern Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Michoacán to the north and west, México and Morelos to the north, Puebla to the northeast and Oaxaca to the east.
The state was named after Vicente Guerrero, one of the most prominent leaders in the Mexican War of Independence and the second President of Mexico. It is the only Mexican state named after a president. The modern entity did not exist until 1849, when it was carved out of territories from the states of Mexico, Puebla and Michoacán.
In addition to the capital city, the state's largest cities include Acapulco, Petatlan, Ciudad Altamirano, Taxco, Iguala, Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, and Santo Domingo. Today, it is home to a number of indigenous communities, including the Nahuas, Mixtecs and Amuzgos. It is also home to communities of Afro-Mexicans in the Costa Chica region.

Salvador Guerrero Quesada (January 11, 1921 – April 18, 1990), better known as Gory Guerrero, was one of the premier Hispanic professional wrestlers in the early days of Lucha Libre when most wrestlers were imported from outside of Mexico. He wrestled primarily in Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre (EMLL) between the 1940s and 1960s. He was also the patriarch of the Guerrero wrestling family.
In Mexico, Guerrero joined a gym with the intention to learn to box, but instead learned lucha libre from Diablo Velasco and El Indio Mejía. He wrestled his first professional wrestling match on September 14, 1937, jobbing to El Rojo. He began his career in Mexico working under the ring name Joe Morgan, but later changed his name to Gory Guerrero—a reference to his bloody matches.
He made his debut for the Mexico City promotion Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre (EMLL) in 1943 and was named "Rookie of the Year" later that year. In 1945, he briefly held the Mexican National Welterweight Championship. Several months later, he won the Mexican National Middleweight Championship, which he held for approximately one year. Guerrero and his brothers also feuded with Cavernario Galindo and his brothers.

In 1932 an American named William Spratling revived interest in the old city's silversmith trade and today Taxco's silver and copper products can be found all over Mexico. The handwork from Taxco deserves its reputation for being consistently first rate. This silver mine is the most modern mine in Taxco and still produces high quality ore . Taxco's most precious jewel is undoubtedly the beautiful Santa Prisca church considered a baroque classic. The gigantic main altar soars towards the heavens. Financed by the silver mining riches of Jose de la Borda the inscription over his porch once read God gives to Borda and Borda gives to God. Taxco is one of Mexico's best-preserved colonial towns and seems to exemplify charm as its gateways and balconies spill over with flowers of every kind. The 20th century has had little effect on Taxco probably because it was literally cut off from the world until the first paved road reached it in 1930. -

Como anfitrión de la 40 Edición del Tianguis Turístico 2015, Acapulco demostró ser la sede ideal para este evento promocional que se ha ubicado como el más importante en América Latina. La Secretaría de Fomento Turístico de Guerrero (Sefotur) y los representantes del sector turístico capitalizaron la visita de más de 670 compradores de 65 países, quienes refrendaron su interés por Acapulco y su renovada oferta de productos, infraestructura hotelera, servicios y atractivos turísticos. El secretario de Fomento Turístico del Estado, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares informó que durante el Tianguis Turístico se concretaron más de 150 citas de negocios, en coordinación con los organismos promocionales de Acapulco, Ixtapa–Zihuatanejo, Taxco y municipios con vocación turística del estado, quienes acordaron con mayoristas internacionales y del país para fortalecer el turismo en el estado. Con la presencia activa del Gobernador del Estado, Rogelio Ortega Martínez y del titular de Sefotur, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares, se optimizaron los cuatro días del Tianguis Turístico, del 23 al 26 de marzo en la expo de Mundo Imperial. Mayoristas, tour operadores, aerolíneas, agencias de servicios en línea, empresas transportadoras, excursiones, así como servicios y atractivos, vivieron la experiencia de la tradicional atención al cliente de Acapulco y Guerrero, y comprobaron la calidad en el servicio que ha hecho escuela en todo el mundo. En su visita al Pabellón de Guerrero, la secretaria de Turismo Federal, Claudia Ruiz Massieu elogió la creatividad y representatividad de la cultura guerrerense en este sitio de servicio en el que 83 empresas de todo el estado exhibieron sus productos, infraestructura y atractivos y donde se llevaron a cabo la mayor parte de los negocios que se concretarán en 2015 y 2016. Por su espectacular despliegue de arte y belleza arquitectónica, el Pabellón de Guerrero fue un atractivo recurrente para los miles de asistentes al Tianguis Turístico, utilizado como un escenario innovador por visitantes y medios de comunicación. Guerrero contó con la presencia de 50 representantes de medios de comunicación nacionales e internacionales durante el Tianguis Turístico, a quienes se les enfatizó que Acapulco es un destino confiable en el que se garantiza una experiencia inolvidable por la variedad de sus productos, servicios y atractivos. Uno de los objetivos del Tianguis para guerrero fue reafirmar que Acapulco es la sede ideal para el Tianguis Turístico y se trabajó para concretar el regreso de esta importante feria promocional para el 2017. Durante esta importante feria turística, se firmaron programas cooperativos por el orden de los 25 millones de pesos que multiplicados a través de convenios de colaboración tripartita sumarán una inversión global de 75 millones de pesos en beneficio del Estado de Guerrero. Dicha inversión permitirá alcanzar un incremento en las frecuencias aéreas desde mercados naturales primarios de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México, por lo que también se cumplió con el objetivo avanzar en la reactivación del mercado extranjero. Guerrero avanzó en las negociaciones con operadores mayoristas colombianos, mercado que representa el cuarto lugar en exportación de turismo a México y que a través de la aerolínea Interjet creará un desplazamiento de ciudades como Medellín y Bogotá con una excelente conectividad hacia Acapulco En el rubro de fomento al turismo extranjero, se aprovechó la presencia de promotores internacionales para un viaje por el estado con touroperadores y prensa a los destinos turísticos de Guerrero con 50 operadores originarios de Houston, Nueva York, Chicago, Italia y Brasil. Con el impulso que ha dado el Gobernador Rogelio Ortega al turismo en Guerrero, se logró sentar las bases para generar turismo hacia Acapulco, destacando los mercados de Colombia, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Estados Unidos y Canadá así como el creciente mercado de la República de China a través de operadores radicados en Vancouver. El secretario Sergio Salmerón aseguró que se dará seguimiento a todos los acuerdos y convenios que se concretaron en el Tianguis Turístico y anunció que el Gobierno del Estado, asociaciones civiles, organismos promotores y municipios seguirán trabajando sin receso hasta ubicar a Guerrero en el liderazgo del turismo mundial que le corresponde. La Sefotur hizo gala de su clásica vocación como anfitrión para recibir la Conferencia Nacional de Gobernadores (Conago) y a los embajadores turísticos del continente en la Confederación de Organizaciones Turísticas de América Latina (COTAL) a los que se les ofreció una cena de gala en el histórico Fuerte de San Diego.

With so many travel options just outside of the city it is easy to forget that Cuzco has a lot to offer in and of itself. The following Cusco travel guide is our attempt to showcase what the city has to offer in terms of attractions, things to do, shopping, dining, museums and nightlife. In our opinion, you'll want to budget several days to take it all in and acclimatize to the higher altitude if you're thinking of going on hiking excursions afterwards.

If you're planning to walk the Inca Trail or visit Machu Picchu, you'll likely end up spending at least a few days in Cuzco. With it's lively square, quirky museums, artisans markets and traditional performances, this is exactly the type of destination you'll want to linger in...plus let's not forget, it's also a good place to adjust to the altitude! The following video will showcase 15 things to do in Cuzco:
Cuzco Cathedral is a place you shouldn't miss. The cathedral sits on the site of Viracocha Inca’s palace, and it was also built using blocks from the nearby Inca site of Sacsaywamán. Inside you'll find impressive works of art done in the cuzqueña style.
In the evenings, you can go watch a traditional dance performance at Centro Qosqo.
San Blas
San Blas is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Cuzco and it is a great area to explore on foot. The neighbourhood is known for its bright blue doors and window shutters, and it has a nice little square with a church and a water fountain. The neighbourhood has some really cool lookout points with great panoramic views of Cuzco, so you'll want to bring your camera.
Plaza de Armas is the beating heart of Cuzco. The square is flanked by a Jesuit church and cathedral, and there are also plenty of bars, restaurants, and tour agencies around the perimeter. During the day you'll find locals and tourists hanging out in the square, and if you get lucky, you might just encounter a performance followed by a demonstration like we did.
The Inca Museum is one of the main museums in town and it has rooms dedicated to different periods of Inca and Spanish history. You can also see women weaving rugs and tapestries by hand in the central courtyard.
Qurikancha was an Inca temple built to the Sun God, Inti, and it is believed that the walls of this temple were once covered in sheets of gold. If the temple looks like it has various layers of construction, that's because when the Spaniards arrived, they demolished the original temple and used the foundations to build the Church of Santo Domingo on the site.
The Church of the Society of Jesus is a historic Jesuit church. It's worth a quick visit if you're in the area.
Templo de la Merced is another church located one block from Plaza de Armas, and it contains the tomb of two famous conquistadors.

a silver mining city in the hills of the state of Guerrero
and a reborn center for silver craftsmanship. In 1932 an American named William Spratling revived interest in the old city's silversmith trade and today Taxco's silver and copper products can be found all over Mexico. The handwork from Taxco deserves its reputation for being consistently first rate. This silver mine is the most modern mine in Taxco
and still produces high quality ore .
Taxco's most precious jewel is undoubtedly the beautiful Santa Prisca church
considered a baroque classic. The gigantic main altar soars towards the heavens. Financed by the silver mining riches of Jose de la Borda

and Borda gives to God. Taxco is one of Mexico's best-preserved colonial towns
and seems to exemplify charm as its gateways and balconies spill over with flowers of every kind. The 20th century has had little effect on Taxco

Como anfitrión de la 40 Edición del Tianguis Turístico 2015, Acapulco demostró ser la sede ideal para este evento promocional que se ha ubicado como el más importante en América Latina.
La Secretaría de Fomento Turístico de Guerrero (Sefotur) y los representantes del sector turístico capitalizaron la visita de más de 670 compradores de 65 países, quienes refrendaron su interés por Acapulco y su renovada oferta de productos, infraestructura hotelera, servicios y atractivos turísticos.
El secretario de Fomento Turístico del Estado, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares informó que durante el Tianguis Turístico se concretaron más de 150 citas de negocios, en coordinación con los organismos promocionales de Acapulco, Ixtapa–Zihuatanejo, Taxco y municipios con vocación turística del estado, quienes acordaron con mayoristas internacionales y del país para fortalecer el turismo en el estado.
Con la presencia activa del Gobernador del Estado, Rogelio Ortega Martínez y del titular de Sefotur, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares, se optimizaron los cuatro días del Tianguis Turístico, del 23 al 26 de marzo en la expo de Mundo Imperial.
Mayoristas, tour operadores, aerolíneas, agencias de servicios en línea, empresas transportadoras, excursiones, así como servicios y atractivos, vivieron la experiencia de la tradicional atención al cliente de Acapulco y Guerrero, y comprobaron la calidad en el servicio que ha hecho escuela en todo el mundo.
En su visita al Pabellón de Guerrero, la secretaria de Turismo Federal, Claudia Ruiz Massieu elogió la creatividad y representatividad de la cultura guerrerense en este sitio de servicio en el que 83 empresas de todo el estado exhibieron sus productos, infraestructura y atractivos y donde se llevaron a cabo la mayor parte de los negocios que se concretarán en 2015 y 2016.
Por su espectacular despliegue de arte y belleza arquitectónica, el Pabellón de Guerrero fue un atractivo recurrente para los miles de asistentes al Tianguis Turístico, utilizado como un escenario innovador por visitantes y medios de comunicación.
Guerrero contó con la presencia de 50 representantes de medios de comunicación nacionales e internacionales durante el Tianguis Turístico, a quienes se les enfatizó que Acapulco es un destino confiable en el que se garantiza una experiencia inolvidable por la variedad de sus productos, servicios y atractivos.
Uno de los objetivos del Tianguis para guerrero fue reafirmar que Acapulco es la sede ideal para el Tianguis Turístico y se trabajó para concretar el regreso de esta importante feria promocional para el 2017.
Durante esta importante feria turística, se firmaron programas cooperativos por el orden de los 25 millones de pesos que multiplicados a través de convenios de colaboración tripartita sumarán una inversión global de 75 millones de pesos en beneficio del Estado de Guerrero.

En el rubro de fomento al turismo extranjero, se aprovechó la presencia de promotores internacionales para un viaje por el estado con touroperadores y prensa a los destinos turísticos de Guerrero con 50 operadores originarios de Houston, Nueva York, Chicago, Italia y Brasil.
Con el impulso que ha dado el Gobernador Rogelio Ortega al turismo en Guerrero, se logró sentar las bases para generar turismo hacia Acapulco, destacando los mercados de Colombia, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Estados Unidos y Canadá así como el creciente mercado de la República de China a través de operadores radicados en Vancouver.
El secretario Sergio Salmerón aseguró que se dará seguimiento a todos los acuerdos y convenios que se concretaron en el Tianguis Turístico y anunció que el Gobierno del Estado, asociaciones civiles, organismos promotores y municipios seguirán trabajando sin receso hasta ubicar a Guerrero en el liderazgo del turismo mundial que le corresponde.
La Sefotur hizo gala de su clásica vocación como anfitrión para recibir la Conferencia Nacional de Gobernadores (Conago) y a los embajadores turísticos del continente en la Confederación de Organizaciones Turísticas de América Latina (COTAL) a los que se les ofreció una cena de gala en el histórico Fuerte de San Diego.

Como anfitrión de la 40 Edición del Tianguis Turístico 2015, Acapulco demostró ser la sede ideal para este evento promocional que se ha ubicado como el más importante en América Latina.
La Secretaría de Fomento Turístico de Guerrero (Sefotur) y los representantes del sector turístico capitalizaron la visita de más de 670 compradores de 65 países, quienes refrendaron su interés por Acapulco y su renovada oferta de productos, infraestructura hotelera, servicios y atractivos turísticos.
El secretario de Fomento Turístico del Estado, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares informó que durante el Tianguis Turístico se concretaron más de 150 citas de negocios, en coordinación con los organismos promocionales de Acapulco, Ixtapa–Zihuatanejo, Taxco y municipios con vocación turística del estado, quienes acordaron con mayoristas internacionales y del país para fortalecer el turismo en el estado.
Con la presencia activa del Gobernador del Estado, Rogelio Ortega Martínez y del titular de Sefotur, Sergio Salmerón Manzanares, se optimizaron los cuatro días del Tianguis Turístico, del 23 al 26 de marzo en la expo de Mundo Imperial.
Mayoristas, tour operadores, aerolíneas, agencias de servicios en línea, empresas transportadoras, excursiones, así como servicios y atractivos, vivieron la experiencia de la tradicional atención al cliente de Acapulco y Guerrero, y comprobaron la calidad en el servicio que ha hecho escuela en todo el mundo.
En su visita al Pabellón de Guerrero, la secretaria de Turismo Federal, Claudia Ruiz Massieu elogió la creatividad y representatividad de la cultura guerrerense en este sitio de servicio en el que 83 empresas de todo el estado exhibieron sus productos, infraestructura y atractivos y donde se llevaron a cabo la mayor parte de los negocios que se concretarán en 2015 y 2016.
Por su espectacular despliegue de arte y belleza arquitectónica, el Pabellón de Guerrero fue un atractivo recurrente para los miles de asistentes al Tianguis Turístico, utilizado como un escenario innovador por visitantes y medios de comunicación.
Guerrero contó con la presencia de 50 representantes de medios de comunicación nacionales e internacionales durante el Tianguis Turístico, a quienes se les enfatizó que Acapulco es un destino confiable en el que se garantiza una experiencia inolvidable por la variedad de sus productos, servicios y atractivos.
Uno de los objetivos del Tianguis para guerrero fue reafirmar que Acapulco es la sede ideal para el Tianguis Turístico y se trabajó para concretar el regreso de esta importante feria promocional para el 2017.
Durante esta importante feria turística, se firmaron programas cooperativos por el orden de los 25 millones de pesos que multiplicados a través de convenios de colaboración tripartita sumarán una inversión global de 75 millones de pesos en beneficio del Estado de Guerrero.
