The Coasters
HIDDEN ERROR: Usage of "Rock ?n? roll Hall of Fame_members" is not recognized
The Coasters are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group who had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Beginning with "Searchin'" and "Young Blood", their most memorable songs were written by the songwriting and producing team of Leiber and Stoller. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo-wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 1960s.
History
The Coasters were formed in October 1955 as a spin-off of the Robins, a Los Angeles-based rhythm and blues group that included Carl Gardner and Bobby Nunn. The original Coasters were Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Bobby Nunn, Leon Hughes (who was replaced by Young Jessie on a couple of their early Los Angeles recordings), and guitarist Adolph Jacobs. Jacobs left the group in 1959.
The songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller had started Spark Records, and in 1955 produced "Smokey Joe's Cafe" for the Robins (their 5th single with Leiber-Stoller). The record was popular enough for Atlantic Records to offer Leiber and Stoller an independent production contract to produce the Robins for the Atlantic label. Only two of the Robins—Gardner and Nunn—were willing to make the move to Atlantic, recording their first songs in the same studio as the Robins had done (Master Recorders). In late 1957, the group moved to New York and replaced Nunn and Hughes with Cornell Gunter and Will "Dub" Jones. The new quartet was from then on stationed in New York (although all had Los Angeles roots).

Although The Coasters were not considered to be a mainstream Doo Wop band, their songs were so often imitated that they became a huge and important part in the doo wop legacy throughout the 1960's. The Coasters had a string of hits throught the 50s, including "Searchin'" and "Young Blood". Their 1958 song "Yakety Yak" reached #1 on both the US Hot R&B; Charts and the US Billboard Charts. This performance was recorded live at Little Darlin's Rock 'n' Roll Palace, in Kissimmee, Florida. The Coasters became an important part of the doo wop legacy throughtout the 1960s, even though they originated outside of mainstream doo wop. Some of their biggest and most successful hits were written by song writing team Lieber and Stoller. In 1961, The Coasters released "Little Egypt (Ying-Yang) and it reached #23 on the US Billboard charts and #16 on the US R&B; charts. This performance was recorded live at Little Darlin's Rock 'n' Roll Palace, in Kissimmee, Florida. As an event filmmaker I had the unique opportunity to cover a 50th Birthday event for someone who hired the legendary Coasters for his party in Porter Ranch in September of 1988. Having shot footage for DEVO,Big Bad Vodoo Daddy and the Royal Crown Revue over the years, this event was the most energetic and fun. I am glad I have this footage and never tire of listening and watching this fantastic group of talented performers.

In 1961, The Coasters released "Little Egypt (Ying-Yang) and it reached #23 on the US Billboard charts and #16 on the US R&B; charts.

Having shot footage for DEVO,Big Bad Vodoo Daddy and the Royal Crown Revue over the years, this event was the most energetic and fun. I am glad I have this footage and never tire of listening and watching this fantastic group of talented performers.

According to their most recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing, annual attendance for calendar year 2012 was 24.4 million, while attendance for the January 1-October 31, 2013 period was 18.9 million. Average revenue per attendee was $62.79, of which 62% consists of admission fees. 55% of revenues were generated from parks in Florida, 20% in California, and 11% in Virginia.
In October 2009, Anheuser-Busch InBev announced plans to sell the division to private-equity firm The Blackstone Group in order to reduce the debt load generated by InBev's 2008 purchase of Anheuser-Busch. The sale was completed on December 1, 2009 and with it came a new company name, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.

Hollywood’s “Spotlight,” about the Boston Globe’s investigation into crimes covered up by the Catholic Church, fully deserved its 2015 Oscar for Best Picture. It also made working for a daily newspaper look the kind of voluntary self-flagellation pursued only by serious masochists ... Wouldn’t a person rather get a nice job, like a Time Warner Cable customer service agent? ... scrappy, hilarious roller-coasters of emotion ... ....
