Charlotte Motor Speedway is a motorsports complex located in Concord, North Carolina, United States 13 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina. The complex features a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) quad oval track that hosts NASCAR racing including the prestigious Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend and the Sprint All-Star Race. The speedway was built in 1959 by Bruton Smith and is considered the home track for NASCAR with many race teams located in the Charlotte area. The track is owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports (SMI) with Marcus G. Smith (son of Bruton Smith) as track president.
The 2,000 acres (810 ha) complex also features a state-of-the-art 0.25 miles (0.40 km) drag racing strip, ZMAX Dragway. It is the only all-concrete, four-lane drag strip in the United States and hosts NHRA events. Alongside the drag strip is a state-of-the-art clay oval that hosts dirt racing including the World of Outlaws finals.
Charlotte Motor Speedway was designed and built by Bruton Smith and partner and driver Curtis Turner in 1959. The first World 600 NASCAR race was held at the 1.5 miles (2.4 km) speedway on June 19, 1960. In 1961, the speedway fell into Chapter 11 reorganization but quickly recovered despite the lagging ticket sales. Smith departed from the speedway in 1962 to pursue other business interests. He became quite successful and began buying shares of stock in the speedway and, by 1975, had become the majority stockholder, regaining control of its day-to-day operations. Smith hired H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler as general manager in 1976 and together the two began to implement plans for improvement and expansion of the speedway.

iRacing : Mostly On My Own (Mazda MX-5 Cup @ Charlotte Motor Speedway)
Things start off exciting enough, grid up in 4th, battle with 3rd and second for a while, but then I get stuck in 3rd. Too conservative to keep up with the leaders, but well faster than those behind. I'm happy with a 3rd place finish, but it doesn't make for the most thrilling of races. -

This is a walk through of the garages at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Bank of America 500 race weekend. I was able to get a HOT pass to get to the pits and garage area of the infield at the track. Very cool to see all the stuff that goes on down in the garages. A few clips is during practice and right before qualifying laps for the Nationwide and Cup series drivers. I saw lots of drivers and was only 5-10 feet from them like David Reutimann, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kennseth, Austen Dillon, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Greg Bifle, danica patrick, just to name a few, and oh uh Richard Petty! This is a walk through of the garages at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Bank of America 500 race weekend. I was able to get a HOT pass to get to the pits and garage area of the infield at the track. Very cool to see all the stuff that goes on down in the garages. A few clips is during practice and right before qualifying laps for the Nationwide and Cup series drivers. I saw lots of drivers and was only 5-10 feet from them like David Reutimann, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kennseth, Austen Dillon, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Greg Bifle, danica patrick, just to name a few, and oh uh Richard Petty!
Very cool and a great weekend!

RCR Wireless took time to visit Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to admire the $1.3 billion stadium, playing field, AT&T; data center, locker room and facilities. One of the weekend trips I went on was a tour of Charlotte Motor Speedway, this is the first of a couple videos from the track. I took the Feel the speed tour where the van will actually take you out on the track. When the tour guide stopped on the 24 deg turn it was amazing how steep this was. It really does not look steep on TV!

Currently, the Driving Program is only offered at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Walt Disney World® Speedway. At Indianapolis, thrill seekers take to the historic 2.5-mile Brickyard for 3 laps, while drivers at the Walt Disney World® Speedway cruise around the 1-mile track for 8 laps.
