The Heysham to M6 Link will complete the long awaited connection from the Heysham and Morecambe peninsula to Junction 34 of the M6. It will be a two lane dual carriageway with a footpath and cycleway along the entire route. The first phase was completed in July 1994.
The animated fly through shows the entire proposed route from the junction of the A683/A589 to beyond Shefferlands roundabout.

Here is a short video a recorded with my phantom quadcopter showing the development and progress of the M6 to Heysham Link road (by pass).......not all areas were recorded due to access and public safety issues. Sorry for shaky video but it was very windy...
Please note all flying was done safely....When Filming near M6 Motorway I had the quadcopter tethered for extra safety...

Travelling to the Isle of Man by Ferry from Heysham to Douglas,
Check In and Ferry staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only downside to this journey is the car park (adjacent to the terminal). It is unmanned and not user friendly. In May 2014 things are supposed to be changing, but if you intend to use this car park, check exactly how you can pay before you leave home.

This video has been Re edited as some people thoght id flown the whole sea front in one go...

I made this short film back in March (I think!) on the most spring like day so far this year. It's been well gloomy ever since.
Heysham Power Station is a nuclear power station located in Heysham, Lancashire, England, operated by EDF Energy. The site is divided into two separately-managed stations, Heysham 1 and Heysham 2, both of the advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) type, with two reactors each. In January 2009, EDF Energy bought out British Energy, and the Heysham sites have now been made into EDF Energy existing nuclear sites.
On 18 October 2010 the British government announced that Heysham was one of the eight sites it considered suitable for future nuclear power stations.
Construction of Heysham 1, which was undertaken by British Nuclear Design & Construction (BNDC), a consortium backed by English Electric, Babcock & Wilcox and Taylor Woodrow Construction, began in 1970, with the first reactor commencing operations in 1983 and the second reactor following in 1984. However, initial production levels were low, and full commercial operation was only declared in 1989. It is likely to remain in operation until 2019. Its generating capacity is 1150 MWe. The reactors were supplied by National Nuclear Corporation and the turbines by GEC.
Heysham 1 shares its reactor design with Hartlepool power station, which introduced the replaceable pod boiler design. The CEGB specified a compact design for the Heysham 1 and Hartlepool power station reactor islands in comparison to the design of the two preceding stations at Hinkley Point B and Hunterston B in order to reduce the capital cost, but this caused expensive construction delays because of restricted access. The lesson was learned and the Heysham 2 reactor island occupies a much larger footprint than Heysham 1 for a similar design output of power

Heysham (
i/ˈhiːʃəm/ HEE-shəm) is a large coastal village near Lancaster in the county of Lancashire, England. Overlooking Morecambe Bay, it is a ferry port with services to the Isle of Man and Ireland. Heysham is the site of two nuclear power stations which are landmarks visible from hills in the surrounding area. Heysham has been identified as one potential location for the next generation of nuclear power stations.
Administratively, Heysham is part of the City of Lancaster district, with three wards: Heysham Central (with a population of 4,397), Heysham North (5,477), and Heysham South (6,262); together they have a population of 16,136 (2001 census), although these extend into areas beyond the village of Heysham itself, which has a population of approximately 6,500.
Of historical interest are the stone graves in the ruins of the ancient St. Patrick's Chapel, close to St. Peter's Church. They are thought to date from the 11th century[citation needed], and are hewn from solid rock. Local legend has it that St. Patrick landed here after crossing from Ireland and established the chapel. However it has been established that the chapel was built around 300 years after Patrick's death. These stone graves appear on the cover of the Black Sabbath CD, 'The Best of Black Sabbath'.

In this next route learning video we take a Northern Rail Class 142 on the once-daily service from Carnforth to Heysham Port calling at Lancaster, Bare Lane, Morcambe and Heysham Port. This journey is unusual in that it features two reversals so you have to change ends twice. I have included information about speed limits, stations and braking points. The multi-age, multi-gender and multi-ability programme offers over 100 students the chance to participate in structured football games and high quality coaching sessions, in return for their continued excellent behaviour and attitude across school. -

Heysham~M6 Link Rd Construction. January 2015 Update. Part 2 of 3. This video looking at the entire process of Milestone (Folly Lane) Canal Bridge construction by placing of the arches. From the lorry arriving on site with the half arch to the unloading and rotating 90 degrees by the crane. Then the arch being lifted over the canal and put in position. This same process exactly the same for the other half of the arch. Once joined together they form the largest concrete arch span in the UK. -

The Heysham to M6 Link will complete the long awaited connection from the Heysham and Morecambe peninsula to Junction 34 of the M6. It will be a two lane dual carriageway with a footpath and cycleway along the entire route. The first phase was completed in July 1994.
The animated fly through shows the entire proposed route from the junction of the A683/A589 to beyond Shefferlands roundabout.

Check In and Ferry staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only downside to this journey is the car park (adjacent to the terminal). It is unmanned and not user friendly. In May 2014 things are supposed to be changing, but if you intend to use this car park, check exactly how you can pay before you leave home.

Heysham Power Station is a nuclear power station located in Heysham, Lancashire, England, operated by EDF Energy. The site is divided into two separately-managed stations, Heysham 1 and Heysham 2, both of the advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) type, with two reactors each. In January 2009, EDF Energy bought out British Energy, and the Heysham sites have now been made into EDF Energy existing nuclear sites.
On 18 October 2010 the British government announced that Heysham was one of the eight sites it considered suitable for future nuclear power stations.
Construction of Heysham 1, which was undertaken by British Nuclear Design & Construction (BNDC), a consortium backed by English Electric, Babcock & Wilcox and Taylor Woodrow Construction, began in 1970, with the first reactor commencing operations in 1983 and the second reactor following in 1984. However, initial production levels were low, and full commercial operation was only declared in 1989. It is likely to remain in operation until 2019. Its generating capacity is 1150 MWe. The reactors were supplied by National Nuclear Corporation and the turbines by GEC.
Heysham 1 shares its reactor design with Hartlepool power station, which introduced the replaceable pod boiler design. The CEGB specified a compact design for the Heysham 1 and Hartlepool power station reactor islands in comparison to the design of the two preceding stations at Hinkley Point B and Hunterston B in order to reduce the capital cost, but this caused expensive construction delays because of restricted access. The lesson was learned and the Heysham 2 reactor island occupies a much larger footprint than Heysham 1 for a similar design output of power

From the lorry arriving on site with the half arch to the unloading and rotating 90 degrees by the crane. Then the arch being lifted over the canal and put in position. This same process exactly the same for the other half of the arch. Once joined together they form the largest concrete arch span in the UK.

In this next route learning video we take a trip to Germany and travel along the Hamburg to Hannover route. This is the first German video I have made. We will be taking an ICE 2 and driving from Hamburg to Hannover in the scenario 'Southbound Intercity Express' which comes with the route. Our calling points will be Harburg, Luneburg, Uelzen, Celle and Hannover. I have tried to include as much information as I can about the signalling and safety systems. Also included is information about stations, speed limits and braking points. Apologies for any lag or stutter. We will be taking an ICE 2 and driving from Hamburg to Hannover in the scenario 'Southbound Intercity Express' which comes with the route. Our calling points will be Harburg, Luneburg, Uelzen, Celle and Hannover.
I have tried to include as much information as I can about the signalling and safety systems. Also included is information about stations, speed limits and braking points.
Apologies for any lag or stutter. Also apologies if the captions aren't quite clear, I didn't realise how bright the background was until I rewatched the video! In this next route learning video we take a trip to Germany and travel along the Hamburg to Hannover route. This is the first German video I have made. We will be taking an ICE 2 and driving from Hamburg to Hannover in the scenario 'Southbound Intercity Express' which comes with the route. Our calling points will be Harburg, Luneburg, Uelzen, Celle and Hannover.
I have tried to include as much information as I can about the signalling and safety systems. Also included is information about stations, speed limits and braking points.
Apologies for any lag or stutter. Also apologies if the captions aren't quite clear, I didn't realise how bright the background was until I rewatched the video! Finally, an apology for the faint sound of the text tone on my phone between Hamburg and Harburg.. I will remember to silence it next time! xD
