What is RSS?

RSS is a technology that makes it easy to stay up-to-date with the IFEX website without having to check it manually. RSS feeds also allow you to easily add headlines from the IFEX website to your own site.

All you need is an RSS reader and a basic understanding of how RSS works.

Whenever a new alert is posted on the IFEX website, the headline will appear instantly in your RSS feed reader, providing a link to the whole alert on the IFEX website.

The benefit of RSS is you can monitor breaking news on the IFEX website from your desktop.

How do I start using RSS feeds?

The first thing you need is an RSS reader. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a web browser, and some that need to be downloaded onto your computer.

Browser-based RSS readers let you receive your RSS feeds from any computer, whereas downloaded RSS readers let you store them on your main computer, in the same way that you either download your e-mail using Outlook, or keep it on a web-based service like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.

Once you have chosen an RSS reader, you need to decide what content you want to receive by finding and subscribing to the relevant RSS feeds.

Look for the orange RSS buttons at the top of many pages on the site. If you click on a button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the feed into your RSS reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your RSS reader.

Where do I get a RSS reader?

There is a range of different RSS readers available. You need to choose one that works on a web browser, or one that will work with your computer. The following is a sampling of popular RSS feeds that are free to download. Please note that IFEX cannot provide technical support for these products.
